Classification of Degraded Peat Swamp Forest for Restoration Planning at Landscape Level Using Remote Sensing Technique

  • Malaysia possesses about 1.56 million ha of Peat Swamp Forest (PSF). The PSF safeguard enormous biological diversity, while providing crucial benefits for the sustainable development of human communities. Numbers of threatened plant species are associated with the PSF, including the commercially important Gonystylus bancanus timber. To prevent significant losses of biodiversity, it is important to manage the PSF for both biological conservation and sustainable use. Equally important is to restore all degraded PSF in an attempt to ensure the PSF ecosystem is suitable for the vegetation to grow and rehabilitate back to the normal condition. Prior to plan any forest restoration program, there is a need to properly map the degraded PSF in order to estimate the forest conditions and determine the vegetations status. Most of the time this need to be done at a landscape level and requires a technology that can provide accurate, timely and reliable information for the planner to make decision. This paper describes a study using geospatial technology in combination with ground survey to classify the degraded PSF in South East Pahang Peat Swamp Forest (SEPPSF), Malaysia, into different degree of vegetation classes. With map accuracy of about 83%, the technique proved to be useful in delineating the different degree of PSF degradation from which the information can be used to properly plan forest restoration program in the area. The final output which is in the form of map can be used in developing a Restoration Master Plan for the degraded PSF areas.

Sulfamethoxazole의 오존산화처리에 관한 연구 (A Study on Ozonation of Sulfamethoxazole)

  • The ozonation of sulfamethoxazole (SMX) was performed at 20℃ using a pilot scale countercurrent bubble column reactor. Ozonation systems were combined with UV irradiation and TiO2 addition. As the oxidation reaction proceeded in each treatment system, the pH of the sample decreased and in the O3/UV/TiO2 system, the pH change was the largest from 4.54 to 2.02. Under these experimental conditions, the scavenger impact of carbonate is negligible. The highest COD and TOC removal rate was observed in the O3/UV/TiO2 system due to the UV irradiation and the photocatalytic effect of TiO2. Also, the highest mineralization ratio(ε) value is 0.2 in the O3/UV/TiO2 system, which means theoxidation capacity of the systems. The highest SMX degradation rate constants calculated by COD and TOC values (COD and TOC) were 2.15 × 10-4 sec-1 and 1.00 × 10-4 sec-1 in the O3/UV/TiO2 system, respectively. The activation energy (Ea) of ozone treatment follows the Arrhenius law. It was calculated based on COD and TOC. Each activation energy decreased in order of single O3> O3/TiO2> O3/UV > O3/UV/TiO2 system. The result showed that ΔH is more effective than ΔS in each SMX ozontaionsystem, that is characteristic of the common oxidation reaction.

Spatial Relationship of Suburb, Road and River in respect to Forest Canopy Density Change Using GIS and RS

  • Many studies states that improperly uprising of infrastructure may cause leading the forest degradation and canopy reduction in many tropical forest of Asian countries. Other studies revealed that habitat destruction and fragmentation, edge effects, exotic species invasions, pollution are provoked by roads. Similarly, environmental effects of road construction in forests are problematic. Similarly, many researches have been indicated that roads have a far greater impact on forests than simply allowing greater access for human use. Moreover, people using river as means of transportation hence illegal logging and felling cause canopy depletion in many countries. Therefore, it is important to comprehend the study about spatial relation of road, river and suburb followed by temporal change of forest canopy phenomena. This study also tried to examine the effect of road, river and suburb in forest canopy density change of Terai forest of Nepal from you 1988 to 2001. So, Landsat TM88, 92 and 001 and FCD (Forest Canopy Density) mapper were used to perform the spatial .elation of canopy density change. ILWIS (Integrated Land and Water Information System) which is GIS software and compatible with remote sensing data was used to execute analysis and visualize the results. Study found that influence of distance to suburb and river had statistically significance influenced in canopy change. Though road also influenced canopy density much but didn't show a statistical relation. It can be concluded from this research that understanding of spatial relation of factors respect with canopy change is quite complex phenomena unless detail analysis of surrounding environment. Hence, it is better to carry out comprehensive analysis with other additional factors such as biophysical, anthropogenic, social, and institutional factors for proper approach of their effect on canopy change.

  • 본 연구는 2D 기반의 동적 공간모형(dynamic spatial landscape models)을 통해 지표 변화 과정을 이해하고 예측할 수 있는 방법론을 제시하는데 그 초점을 두고 있다. 동적 공간모형 에 기반한 연구는 크게 지표의 공간 패턴에 대한 모형화와 변화 과정에 관한 모형화 및 모의로 구성되어 있는데 지표 변화와 관련된 규칙은 변화 원인과 그 과정에 따라 다르게 정의될 수 있다. 이때 지표 패턴의 이질성은 변화와 밀접한 관계를 가지고 있기 때문에 연구 지역의 GIS 맵으로부터 공간 패턴의 특성을 모형화 하여 이를 기반으로 변화에 관한 동적 공간 모형이 적용되어야 한다. 본 논문에서는 이를 위한 모형기반 접근법이 설명되어 있고 자연 화재로 인한 지표 변화 과정에 적용되어 동적 공간 모형이 개발되었다.

Secondary human impacts on the forest understory of Ulleung Island, South Korea, a temperate island

  • Oceanic islands are biologically important for their unique assemblages of species and high levels of endemism and are sensitive to environmental change because of their isolation and small species source pools. Habitat destruction caused by human landscape development is generally accepted as the main cause of extinction on islands, with exotic species invasion a secondary cause of extinction, especially on tropical islands. However, secondary impacts of human development (e.g., general degradation through resource use and exotic species introduction) are understudied on temperate islands. To determine secondary impacts of human development on the understory vegetation community, 90 field sites on Ulleung Island, South Korea, were sampled during the summer of 2016. Understory vegetation was chosen as it is a proxy for ecosystem health. Diversity and percent cover of introduced, native, and endemic species were tested against proximity to developed areas and trail usage using a model selection approach. Diversity was also tested against percent cover of three naturalized species commonly found in survey plots. The main finding was that distance to development, distance to town, and trail usage have limited negative impacts on the understory vegetation community within best-supported models predicting native and introduced cover and diversity. However, endemic species cover was significantly lower on high usage trails. While there are no apparent locally invasive plant species on the island at the time of this study, percent cover of Robinia pseudoacacia, a naturalized tree species, negatively correlated with plot diversity. These findings indicate that forests on Ulleung Island are not experiencing a noticeable invasion of understory vegetation, and conservation efforts can be best spent preventing future invasions.

벙커-C유 분해미생물의 선발 및 현장 생리적용성 검정

  • 벙커 C유 1-5%가 주입되었을 경우에는 40.5%, 44.7%가 제거되었으며 본 유류분해균주는 A. calcoaceticus SEBCM-1로 명명하였다. pH 6과 pH 7에서 분해율이 약 73% 정도로 가장 높게 나타났으며 pH 4에서는 약 37% 정도가 미생물 분해에 의해 저감되는 것으로 나타났다. 본균은 다양한 pH조건에서도 생육이 가능하며 일정 수준의 분해력을 가지는 것으로 확인되었다. 본균은 비교적 넓은 온도 범위에서 왕성한 성장이 가능하며 분해가 가능할 것으로 판단된다. 본균의 영양분 조성 중 질소원의 주입량은 $0.5\;g/L{\sim}2\;g/L$ 범위에서 미생물 성장이 활발하였으며 0.1 g/L와 4 g/L로 주입했을 경우에는 미생물 성장이 크게 저하되는 것으로 관찰되었다.

담배식물체에서 스트레스에 따른 Matrix Metalloproteinase의 활성 (Stress-induced Activity of Matrix Metalloproteinase in Tobacco Plants)

  • MMPs는 $Zn^{2+}$-의존성 endopeptidase로서 세포외 기질을 분해하는 능력을 갖고 있다. 본 연구에서는 담배식물체에서 잎의 발생단계별로 분비되는 MMPs의 활성과 환경 스트레스에 의한 MMPs의 활성을 조사하였다. 그 결과 MMPs의 활성은 기부 부위의 완전히 성숙한 잎보다 엽신의 확장이 일어나고 있는 어린잎에서 높았다. 이는 식물체에서 잎 신장을 위한 세포내 공간 형성 및 조직재구성에 MMPs가 중요한 단백질분해효소로 작용함을 시사하였다. 또한 환경 스트레스에 대한 반응으로서 MMPs의 활성을 조사한 결과 염처리와 병원균 감염에 의해 각각 1.2배와 1.5배의 증가를 보였다. 이러한 결과는 식물체가 발생단계 외에도 불리한 환경에 대한 방어 수단으로 MMPs가 생성 분비함을 알 수 있었다.

자동차 전장용 무연솔더 및 솔더 접합부의 신뢰성 평가 (Lead-free Solder for Automotive Electronics and Reliability Evaluation of Solder Joint)

  • Automotive today has been transforming to an electronic product by adopting a lot of convenience and safety features, suggesting that joining materials and their mechanical reliabilities are getting more important. In this study, a Sn-Cu-Cr-Ca solder composition having a high melting temperature ($>230^{\circ}C$) was fabricated and its joint properties and reliability was investigated with an aim to evaluate the suitability as a joining material for electronics of engine room. Furthermore, mechanical properties change under complex environment were compared with several existing solder compositions. As a result of contact angle measurement, favorable spreadability of 84% was shown and the average shear strength manufactured with corresponding composition solder paste was $1.9kg/mm^2$. Also, thermo-mechanical reliability by thermal shock and vibration test was compared with that of the representative high temperature solder materials such as Sn-3.5Ag, Sn-0.7Cu, and Sn-5.0Sb. In order to fabricate the test module, solder balls were made in joints with ENIG-finished BGA and then the BGA chip was reflowed on the OPS-finished PCB pattern. During the environmental tests, resistance change was continuously monitored and the joint strength was examined after tests. Sn-3.5Ag alloy exhibited the biggest degradation rate in resistance and shear stress and Sn-0.7Cu resulted in a relatively stable reliability against thermo-mechanical stress coming from thermal shock and vibration.

고도산화공정을 이용한 반응성 염료의 제거 및 생태독성 저감 (Degradation and Ecotoxicity Reduction of Reactive Dye by Using Advanced Oxidation Process)

  • In this study, the deriving optimum conditions for decolorization of Acid Orange II solution was carried using $TiO_2$ advanced oxidation process. After that, on base of the deriving results, the range of dye concentration was estimated. In addition, acute toxicity test was also carried to assess toxicity unit according to decolorization and TOC removal. In case of the blockage of light, 20 mg/L of dye solution, and 0.5 g $TiO_2$, the effect of decolorization at pH 3 was larger than at pH 6 and 10, so it was shown that decolorization is dependent on pH. The use of 5 g $TiO_2$ showed best performance of decolorization, but that of 3 g $TiO_2$ was chosen to optimum condition in considering of economical aspects. Four light sources, sun, fluorescent lamp, BLB lamp, and UV-B lamp, were used and decolorization was 99.4% and 100% at 50 mg/L, 98.6% and 99.7% at 100 mg/L for sun and UV-B lamp, respectively. In spite of the optimum condition of decolorization at pH 3, the evaluation of acute toxicity test showed highly toxic. In conclusion, although the optimum treatment of dye solution is performed, water ecology can be polluted in discharging it into water system. Therefore, it is needed to study of water ecological system with dye water treatment, and it takes all the circumstances into consideration.

수도 서비스의 진화! 소비자 중심의 스마트 물 관리 - Smart Water City 시범사업 - (Evolution of Water supply system! Smart Water Management for customer - Smart Water City Pilot Project -)

  • Korea's modern waterworks began with construction of DDukdo water treatment plant in 1908 and has been growing rapidly along with the country's economic development. As a result, water supply rates have reached 98.5% based on 2013. Despite multilateral efforts for high-quality water supply, such as introduction of advanced water treatment process, expansion of waterworks infrastructure and so on, distrust for drinking tap water has been continuing and domestic consumption rate of tap water is in around 5% level and extremely poor comparing to advanced countries such as the United States(56%), Japan(52%), etc. Recently, the water management has been facing the new phase due to water environmental degradation caused by climate change, aging facilities, etc. Therefore, K-water has converted water management paradigm from the "clean and safe water" to the "healthy water" and been pushing the Smart Water City(SWC) Pilot Project in order to develop and spread new water supply models for consumers to believe and drink tap water through systematic water quality and quantity management combining ICT in the whole water supply process. The SWC pilot projects in Pa-ju city and Go-ryeong county were an opportunity to check the likelihood of the "smart water management" as the answer to future water management. It is needed to examine the necessity of smart water management introduction and nationwide SWC expansion in order to improve water welfare for people and resolve domestic & foreign water problems.
