This study also attempts to examine the relationship between environmental regulation and corporate competitiveness from a technological innovation perspective and explore a desirable relationship between those two. Research design, data, and methodology - Discourse analysis and SWOT analysis is used in terms of methodology, and this study is based on literature review theoretically. The methodology is employed in various ways to describe a variety of environmental issues. Recognizing the significance of inter-firm cooperation for firm's sustainable competitive advantage in today's business environment, this study investigates the effects of inter-firm cooperation and knowledge sharing on firm competitiveness based on 327 Korean small and medium sized enterprises. We also examines a mediating effects of knowledge sharing on the relationship between inter-firm cooperation and firm competitiveness and moderating effects of environmental factors on this relationship. The environmental factors are conceptualized by intensity of market competition and technological change. The main findings of the study are as follows: First, the paper found that inter-firm cooperation was positively associated with firm competitiveness while there was also a positive relationship between knowledge sharing and firm competitiveness. Second, it also shows that knowledge sharing partially mediated the relationship of inter-firm cooperation and firm competitiveness. Third, we also found that technological change had negative moderating effects on the relationship between inter-firm cooperation and firm competitiveness. This study suggests that understanding of inter-firm cooperation with consideration of environmental characteristics are required for better firm competitiveness.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the technological competitiveness of the environmental industry with developed countries in order to establish an international market expansion strategy of the Korean environmental industry and technology. In order to evaluate the competitiveness of the environmental industry and technology, core technologies were classified by the environmental industry sectors based on the classification system of the domestic and international environmental industry and technology. After developing the evaluation index data, the Delphi analysis, journal and patent analysis, as well as the export and import analysis were carried out and the standardization analysis was performed on the index data. Moreover, the weights of each evaluation index were calculated using the AHP(Analytic Hierarchy Process) method and the evaluation results of competitiveness of the environmental industry and technology in Korea, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, and France were derived. As a result of the evaluation, the United States was rated with the highest technological competitiveness in all the environmental industry sectors, while Korea got the lowest technological competitiveness rating compared to the 4 developed countries. In particular, Korea got the lowest level of technological competitiveness in the sector of multi-media environmental management and development for a sustainable social system. Therefore, in order for the Korean environmental industry and technology to enter the global advanced market, it is necessary to strengthen the competitiveness through the development of the fourth environmental industry based on IoT(Internet of Things), cloud, big data, mobile, and AI(Artificial Intelligence), which are currently the country's domestic strengths.

This paper is aimed to analyze the determinants and their relative importance that affect regional competitiveness in the era of globalization and climate change. The panel model was set by a balanced panel data for 7 metropolitan areas & 9 provinces and for the period of 2001~2010. Gross regional income per capita is used as the dependent variable and competitiveness-based factors, economic production factors, and climate change adaptation factors are selected as the explanatory variables. In this study, Model 1(typical regional competitiveness model) and Model 2 (added adaptation to climate change adaptation factors) were compared. The important findings can be summarized as follows. The most influential determinants on regional competitiveness are the ratio of knowledge-based industries and human capital and energy inefficiencies decrease the regional competitiveness. Compared to Model 1, Model 2 showed that the effects of the regional openness and the technology innovation capital are relatively more influential in Model 2. The results of this empirical study provide policy implications to strengthen the regional competitiveness in the future of the era of globalization and climate change.
Amid intense port competition in Northeast Asia, international ports require sustainable growth based on competitiveness that incorporates economic, social, and environmental perspectives. Despite the importance of sustainability issues in port competition, prior studies on port competitiveness have focused on ports' own handling capacities. Moreover, sustainability concerns have focused on environmental issues such as environmental impact minimization and environmental index development. The prior literature makes distinctions between studies of port competitiveness and works relating to port sustainability. Therefore, this paper aims to redefine sustainable port competitiveness based on the "triple bottom line," comprising sustainability, analysis of the relevant issues, and practices. The findings offer not only important steps in building knowledge about sustainable port competitiveness, but also provide practical implications for strategic agendas and guidance for future improvements in port operations.
This paper analyzed the Trade Structure of environmental industry in Korea and some major countries in preparation for The Doha Development Agenda (DDA) Trade Liberalization Negotiation in the environmental goods. Based on 161 environmental goods list proposed by OECD, this paper examined the Trade Returns of worldwide environmental goods during the past 10 years from 2002 to 2011. The analysis showed that Korean environmental goods' International Market Share(IMS) in the world was 3.2%; trade specialization index(TSI) -0.128; Revealed Comparative Advantage(RCA) 1.002 in 2011. And Korea Export Similarity Index(ESI) to Japan was the highest rank in the world market. According to the results of investigation, it is clear that International Competitiveness of the Korean Environmental Industry was received a relatively poor evaluation compared with Korean trade scale. To strengthen the competitiveness, it is required that Korean government should make an effort to boost domestic environmental industry and promote systematically Trade Liberalization Negotiation including the enforcement of transient period for Korean environmental goods in the next DDA Negotiation.

In evaluating the competitiveness of construction companies and their development strategies, patents are a useful and objective source of technical information. In this study, the cutting-edge technologies of construction industries of China, Japan, and South Korea were investigated based on the data of patent applications filed by a total of 15 construction companies (five companies from each country). The related technologies were classified into six core technology groups based on their keywords. After that, we used four patent analysis methods: time series analysis, IP (Intellectual Property) emergence level analysis, spiral module analysis, and OS (Object-Solution) Matrix analysis, to identify the promising technologies/vacant technologies for global construction companies in China, Japan, and South Korea, and to analyze the technical competitiveness of the three countries. The findings of this study showed that each country can claim a relative technological advantage over the others. Overall, 3D printing and offsite construction technology, data acquisition technology, AR and VR technology are expected to be promising in the Asian region. The present study contributes to the body of knowledge by expanding our understanding of technological innovation for the competitiveness of companies and the technology development strategies pursued by the construction industries of China, Japan, and South Korea.
