  • A GIS application for assessment of carrying capacity for national parks was developed and presented in this study. Three criteria--ecological factors, facilities, and institutions--were employed as determining factors for assessing the carrying capacity. Using the GIS-based approach, the site-specific carrying capacity for the Chi-Ri National Park was assessed and a carrying capacity map was prepared. This carrying capacity map can be helpful in making policies for decentralizing visitors and keeping the park environmentally stable.

도시 환경용량평가에 관한 연구 -청주시를 사례로- (A Study on the Environmental Carrying Capacity Assessment of Chongju City)

  • The purpose of this study is to assess the environmental carrying capacity of Chongju City for the environmental management and the urban growth management. The urban environmental carrying capacity assessment of the city by the index of ecological footprint(EF), shows that the ecosystem of the city has been overloaded and most of the deficiencies has come from outside of the city. The EF index, the area of land per capita required for production and consumption in the city, was 1.731 ha per capita in 1989 and 1.901 ha per capita in 1999. On the other side, the ecologically productive land is 0.0175 ha per capita. It means that every citizen owes 1.88 ha per capita to the ecosystem in 1999. The land consumption of the city has increased by 0.1705 ha per capita during the last 10 years. The capacity of infrastructure and the service supply estimated by the Onishi model does not exceed the demand of the city in 1999. But the rapidly increasing population and fast urban growth need the expansion of the capacity. The water supply capacity of the city appears to be sufficient in 1999, but the water supply demand will increase in the future. The capacity of sewage treatment facilities seems to be sufficient, but the higher level of sewage treatment facilities should be adopted for the improvement of water quality as the generation of sewage will increase and its characteristics will also make the wastewater treatment difficult. Due to the decrease of solid waste generated, the land fill capacity for solid waste disposal is not insufficient at present, but the capacity will be saturated in the near future. Therefore, the scientific management system of solid wastes should be introduced. The air quality of the city meets both the national air quality standard and WHO recommendation standard, but the strong regulation and control of automobile emission gas such as CO, $CO_2$, NOx and HC is required for clean air.

  • Analysis of carrying capacity and site suitability by the systematic application of environmental information an provide a basis for implementing environmentally sensitive and sustainable resource development policies. Based on the availability of public services and environmental and site-specific constraints, a Rural Residential Density Matrix was applied in Santa Cruz County, California, USA to assess the development potential of rural land parcels since 1980. In one case, the Matrix was applied to calculate the allowable development density on a site in Lompico planned for use as a Buddhist retreat center. These calculations revealed higher environmental sensitivity and lower carrying capacity than projected in the proposed plan. Under the constraints of the county's minimum acreage policies and insufficient developable land, the developer cancelled the proposed plan. This example suggests that application of the Matrix at the concept development stage would increase the effectiveness of the prior environmental review and environmental impact assessment (EIA) system in Korea.

환경용량을 만족하는 청주시 도심지역의 개발한계 분석 (A Study on the Development Limit of Cheongju Downtown based on Environmental Carrying Capacity)

  • Even though the center of Cheongju city needs redevelopment because of a doughnut phenomenon, it has to be permitted within the environmental carrying capacity like a target water quality proposed on the Total maximum daily loads(TMDL) of Musim and Miho river watersheds. The aim of in this study is to identify the limit of redeveloping Cheongju downtown after analyzing its environmental carrying capacity using QUAL2E model. As a result of modeling various scenarios, the water quality of Musin river was shown that $BOD_5$ is 2.3mg/L which is the target water quality in the double of existing development plan of the Cheongju downtown. The water quality of Miho river was $BOD_5$ 3.97mg/L which is less than the target water quality of Miho B watershed in the same condition. Therefore, this means that the limit of redevelopment within the environmental carrying capacity of cheongju downtown was estimated to be the double of existing development plan.

주남저수지에 도래하는 쇠기러기의 PVA에 의한 생존확률 추정 연구 (Estimation of Survivorship and Population Dynamics of White-fronted Geese (Anser albifrons) in Junam Reservoir, Korea)

  • Wintering migratory species of white-fronted geese (Anser albifrons) are common visitor in South Korea, and this study examined the survivorship of white-fronted geese in the Junam Reservoir with the application of Population Viability Analysis (PVA) technique. In Junam PVA analysis was done for the next 50 years using factors of breeding population, sex ratios, survivorship in the VORTEX program. As a result white-fronted geese will reach to carrying capacity within 40 years, and population will reach to carrying capacity later when it becomes smaller. Also with a large initial population white-fronted geese will reach to carrying capacity earlier. In conclusion, for the next 50 years the white-fronted geese are expected to a long-term survival with stable condition with survivorship (0.03) and extinction rate (0.0).

에머지(Emergy) 개념을 이용한 국토환경용량 산정 및 지속성 평가에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Estimation of Environmental Carrying Capacity and Sustainability in National Land using the Emergy Synthesis)

  • 본 연구는 자연환경이 우리의 사회 경제에 기여하는 진정한 가치를 평가하기 위한 노력들 중의 하나인 에머지(Emergy) 개념을 이용하여 국토의 실질적인 생태학적 가치와 사회 경제적 시스템간 상호작용을 규명하고, 국토의 지속성이 어느 정도 단계에 있는가를 평가하여 이를 바탕으로 국토환경용량을 산정하는데 주안점을 두고 시도되었다. 특히 인구에 회자되고 있는 환경용량을 고려한 지속가능한 개발이라는 개념이 논자의 주관에 따라 달리 평가되면서 이러한 지속가능성을 분석해 볼 수 있는 분석적인 틀(framework)이 잘 정비되어 있지 못함과 지속가능한 개발 또는 발전의 기본이 되는 인간과 자연간의 상호작용에 대한 보다 깊은 분석과 평가를 요구하는 현실을 주목하였다. 그리하여 환경용량을 고려한 지속 가능한 발전이 지니는 함의를 토대로 환경과 경제를 통합하여 분석이 가능한 에머지 개념을 이용하여 국토의 지속가능한 개발이 가능한가를 평가하고 우리 국토에 알맞은 환경용량과 지수를 산정하여 국토의 올바른 개발 방향을 모색하고, 이를 통해 국토이용계획의 정책결정에 있어 지속가능한 국토의 이용 및 관리를 유도할 수 있는 정책을 마련하는데 그 기틀을 제공하고자 함을 목적으로 하였다.

A Case Study on the Effect of Damaged Expansion Joint for Safety Assessment of Highway Bridges

  • In this study, the variations of transformed impact factors and load carrying capacity of highway bridges measured from the state of expansion joint are evaluated. the field loading tests were performed on the highway bridge with damaged expansion joint to investigate the variation of the load carrying capacity. From the field loading tests in case that damaged expansion joint exist or do not exist, the static displacements and dynamic displacements were measured, and TIF were calculated, respectively. dynamic test is performed in order to estimate dynamic displacement and TIF according to the level of damage of expansion joint. From the results of TIF, the load carrying capacity of highway bridges with damaged expansion joint were estimated.

조간대 갯벌에서의 도요·물떼새 서식지수용능력 추정 (Estimating Habitat Carrying Capacity of Shorebirds in the Intertidal Mudflat)

  • Shorebirds migrating along the East Asian-Australasian Flyway (EAAF) have been drastically decreasing due to continuous area loss and quality degradation of intertidal mudflats in the Yellow Sea. Evaluating the current habitat quality by means of habitat carrying capacity estimation could be effective in predicting the magnitude of impacts caused by habitat loss and provide better understanding to improve management strategies. In this study, we estimated the total biomass of Macrophthalmus japonicus, a main prey item of curlews in the Korea peninsular as habitat carrying capacity of the southern intertidal mudflat of Ganghwa Island, one of the key stopover sites for curlews in the EAAF. The result of the estimation took into account spatial differences of prey biomass and the available foraging time by tide patterns. Accordingly, it was found that curlew populations account for 30.26% of the habitat carrying capacity. When we calculated the mean biomass of the area and extrapolated it to the whole area to calculate the total biomass, it was found that the curlews have consumed 10.92% of the total biomass. The results show that the habitat carrying capacity of the southern intertidal mudflat of Ganghwa Island has decreased by 7.8% compared to a study conducted twenty years ago employing the same method. This study shows that there can be considerable differences in the results of habitat carrying capacity estimation between different methods, indicating that various environmental factors that affect the estimation results of habitat carrying capacity must be considered to achieve a more precise analysis and assessment.

아산시 생태환경용량 평가를 통한 도시계획 활용방안 연구 - 생태발자국을 중심으로 - (A Study on Utilization Plan and Assessment of Ecological Carrying Capacity of Asan City - Focused on the Ecological Footprint Survey -)

  • 도시 및 환경문제는 인간의 과도한 활동으로 인한 귀중한 자원의 무분별한 남용과 생태계의 자생적 회복 속도보다 더 빠른 소비에서 발생한다. 이에 따라 도시 및 환경 분야에서는 생태계의 수용 능력 범위 즉 생태적 환경용량 내에서 개발이 이루어질 수 있도록 다양한 계획과 실천 전략이 수립되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 아산시를 대상으로 생태발자국 모델을 통해 생태적 환경용량을 산정하였다. 아산시의 2015년 생태발자국 및 생태적자는 각각 5.12(gha/인), -4.99(gha/인)로 산정되었으며, 2001년부터 2015년까지의 생태발자국 증가율은 81%이며 생태적자는 같은 기간에 190%로 급증하였다. 이러한 결과는 아산시의 인구증가와 도시개발에 따른 자원소비가 지속적으로 증가하고 있고, 환경용량의 한계치에 영향을 주는 녹지와 농지, 습지 등의 생태적 공간의 감소는 더욱 가속화되고 있는 것을 보여준다. 아산시의 지속가능한 발전을 위해서는 녹지와 농지, 습지 등을 보전하고 생태적 환경용량을 고려하여 도시개발 및 성장을 유도하는 것이 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 아산시를 대상으로 환경용량 범위 안에서 도시 성장을 유도할 수 있도록 생태적자를 활용한 방안을 제안하고자 한다.

고속도로 교량의 개선된 안전성 평가방안을 위한 실측자료에 기초한 공용 내하력 검토 (The Examination of Load Carrying Capacity Based on Existing Data for Improved Safety Assessment Method of Expressway Bridges)

  • 고속도로 교량의 안전성은 주요 구조부재의 정밀육안검사, 비파괴 현장시험 및 재료시험 등의 결과를 바탕으로 외관 상태등급을 검토하고, 현장재하시험 결과에 의해 공용 내하력을 산정함으로써 평가되고 있다. 그러나 교량의 공용 내하력이 설계기준에 비하여 상당히 낮은 상태임에도 불구하고, 실제 외관 상태등급은 비교적 양호한 교량이 상당수 있는 것으로 검토되고 있다. 또한 비슷한 준공시기 및 구조형식을 갖는 교량이라도 여러 가지 조건에 따라 공용 내하력은 큰 차이를 나타내는 것을 확인할 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 고속도로 교량의 현황, 외관 상태등급 및 유지관리 위한 안전진단 및 보수 보강방안 등을 고찰한 후, 기존 고속도로 교량의 안전성 평가에 관한 다양한 문제점을 제시하였다. 400여 개소의 고속도로 교량 실측자료를 기초로 교량형식, 공용기간, 설계활하중, 외관 상태등급 및 교통량을 변수로 하여 공용 내하력을 정량적으로 비교 분석하였다. 본 연구결과는 합리적인 고속도로 교량 안전성 평가를 위한 기초자료를 제공할 것으로 기대된다.
