Estimation for CDM of Power Generation by using Bio-diesel (바이오 디젤의 발전용 연료화 CDM 평가)

  • Development of biofuels like ethanol and biodiesel for commercial uses is a recent phenomenon. However, the growth of ethanol and biodiesel has been impressive during the period 2000-2007yr. Globally, production of biodiesel stands around 8.3 billion liters. Europe leads the world in biodiesel production with 80% share of the global biodiesel production total. Today biodiesel fuels have been in commercial use in many countries and recently the world-wide biodiesel market has experienced considerable growth, which is partly due to various tax concession programs and other financial incentives. In Korea, biodiesel has already been used for transportation fuel, but not used for power generation fuel yet. Korean government has a strategy for renewable energy propagation, especially the goal of power generation amount by renewable energy is 3% of total power production by 2012. This paper focuses on the estimation study for effect of using biodiesel as power generation fuel. The study also has the plan to replace the fuel of thermal power plant, gas turbine and distributed power generation system. As the increase of biodiesel fuel, I look forward to environment-friendly power generation and the strategy of Renewable Portfolio Standards(RPS).

A Study on the Test Construction Evaluation and Noise and Vibration Characteristics of Wireless Low-Floored Trams Trackway (무가선 저상트램 노면선로의 시험시공 평가와 소음·진동 특성연구)

  • The wireless low-floored tram is an innovative transportation system which is environment-friendly and highly energy-efficient. In addition, the system has various advantages such as low construction cost, improvement of urban landscape, revitalization of surrounding commercial area, elevated convenience for passengers, etc. Therefore, more than ten local governments have proposed tram construction projects in Korea. Accordingly, many research and development projects are ongoing funded by government including the developments of tram vehicle, tram trackway, signal system, etc. The embedded rail system are commonly used in order to provide leveled roadway surface in urban area. It is effective to reduce the noise and vibration, caused at the interface between the wheel and track, to minimize the construction period, and to lower the maintenance cost. This paper investigated the design and construction processes for tram trackway and figured out the constructability for the test track with embedded rail system for the first time in Korea. The performance to reduce the noise and vibration were quantitatively measured in the test track with embedded rail system. In addition, the results were compared to the ones for track with conventional rail system.

Nutrient Value and Yield Response of Forage Crop Cultivated in Reclaimed Tidal Land Soil Using Anaerobic Liquid Fertilizer (간척지 토양에서 혐기소화액비 시용에 따른 사료작물의 생산성과 사료가치 평가)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the nutrient value and yield response of corn, barley, and sudangrass by the application of anaerobic liquid fertilizer in two tidal land soil in order to design the resource recycling agricultural system between livestock and forage crop cultivation in a environment friendly agricultural region. Forage crop yields at reclaimed tidal soil during were at the level of 64~76% comparing with forage crop yields at upland soil in the cropping system of corn, barley, and sudangrass. And yields of forage crops were in the order of barley > corn > sudangrass in the cultivated cropping system for 2 year. Relative feed values (RFVs) of forage crops were 88%~106% for corn, 90%~111% for barley, and 91%~113% for sudangrass, and the carrying capacity of beef cattle (Hanwoo) was 5.8~8.6 head/year/ha for the corn-barley cropping system of one year, and 4.8~6.7 head/year/ha for the barley-sudangrass cropping system of one year. Also, carrying capacity of beef cattle (Hanwoo) was highest in the application level of anaerobic liquid fertilizer 200%.

  • As the interest on the air-pollution is gradually rising up at home and abroad, automotive and fuel researchers have been working on the exhaust emission reduction from vehicles through a lot of approaches, which consist of new engine design, innovative after-treatment systems, using clean (eco-friendly alternative) fuels and fuel quality improvement. This research has brought forward two main issues : exhaust emission and PM (particulate matter) particle emissions of gasoline vehicle. Exhaust emission and PM particle of automotive had many problem that cause of ambient pollution, health effects. In addition, researcher studied the environment problems of the MTBE contained in the fuel as oxygenate additives. The researchers have many data about the health effects of ingestion of MTBE. However, the data support the conclusion that MTBE is a potential human carcinogen at high doses. Based on the oxygenated fuel additive types (MTBE, Bio-ETBE, Bio-ethanol, Bio-butanol), this paper discussed the influence of oxygen contents on gasoline fuel properties and evaporative emission characteristics. Also, this paper assessed the acceleration and power performance of gasoline vehicle for the fuel property.

A Design of an AMI System Based on an Extended Home Network for the Smart Grid (스마트 그리드를 위한 확장 홈 네트워크 기반의 AMI 시스템 설계)

  • A smart grid is the next generation power grid which combines the existing power grid with information technology, so an energy efficient power grid can be provided. In this paper, in order to build an efficient smart grid an AMI system, which gears with the existing home network and provides an user friendly management function, is proposed. The proposed AMI system, which is based on an extended home network, consists of various functional units; smart meters, communication modules, home gateway, security modules, meter data management modules (MDMM), electric power application modules and so on. The proposed home network system, which can reduce electric power consumption and transmit data more effectively, is designed by using IEEE 802.15.4. The extended home gateway can exchange energy consumption information with the outside management system via web services. The proposed AMI system is designed to enable two-way communication between the home gateway and MDMM via the Internet. The AES(Advanced Encryption Standard) algorithm, which is a symmetric block cipher algorithm, is used to ensure secure information exchange. Even though the results in this study could be limited to our experimental environment, the result of the simulation test shows that the proposed system reduces electric power consumption by 4~42% on average compared to the case of using no control.

  • With the advent of distributed computing and Web service technologies, lots of users have been requiring services that can conveniently obtain and/or support well-assembled information based on Web. For this reason, we are to construct Automatic Linking Support Systems for generating Web-based integrated information and supporting retrieval information according to user's various requirements. Our system organization is based on client/server system. A server environment consisted of automatic linking engine that can provide lexical analyzing, query processing and integrated document generating functions, and databases that are made of dictionaries, image and URL contents. Also, client environments consisted of Web editor that can generate integrated documents and Web helper that can retrieve them via automatic linking engine and databases. For client's user-friendly interfaces, web editor and helper programs can directly execute by down leading from a server without setup them before inside clients. For reducing server's overheads, Parts of server's executing modules are distributed to clients on which they can be executing. As an implementation of our system, we use the JDK 1.3, SWING for user interfaces like Web editor and helper, RMI mechanism for interaction between clients and a server, and SQL server 7.0 for database development, respectively. Finally, we showed the access procedures of automatic document linking engine and databases from Web editor or Web helper, and results appearing on their screens.

  • The City Complex Development and TOD originated from the Compact City are entrenched domestically. The New Urban Development such as these changes Structure of Urban space from the Automobile to the Public Transportation. Also, Transit-Oriented Development is drawing attention as sustainability because it has effects of Environment as Green growth. However, An empirical Study is insufficient about Influence Factors of Transit Oriented Development. Therefore This study sets up the Density spaced 1000m apart of Transit Oriented than the existing and did 7 Types considered of Accessibility, Complexity and Design Element according to the Factorial analysis. As a result, this study drew that (1) 'intraregional accessibility of public transit', (2) 'degree of development', 'pedestrian-friendly facility', (3) 'interzonal accessibility of public transit', (4) 'land-use of the city centre', 'complex using of rail station area', 'complementary public transit' are related 201 in number of the Subway stations according to the Multi-dimensional scaling.

Development of a 300W Generator for Lightweight Wind Turbine

  • As a population of leisure activities grows and diversifies, there is a great demand for portable and environment-friendly power generation systems. A small wind power generation system is emerging as a suitable power generation equipment to meet these needs. The most important thing when developing a small portable wind turbine is to reduce the weight of the generator and increase the efficiency. The existing 300W wind turbine generator weighs about 10kg, which is heavy to carry. Therefore, a new generator weighing less than 4kg to make it easy to carry with high efficiency has been developed. In addition, considering complicated characteristics of wind volume and topography of Korea, a small wind turbine that can be used in urban and rural areas individually was constructed. Through basic designing and optimization, the lightweight and efficient generator was manufactured. It is a 300W wind turbine designed and fabricated with reduced weight as a prototype. The average output voltage of the generator was 24.7V at 900rpm no-load test. On a load test with the average line voltage 36.8V and the average phase current 2.62A, when the mechanical input was 339.84W, an average voltage output of the generator was measured as 289.5W with efficiency of 85.18%. The generator weight was 3.84kg.

Recent Research Trends Analysis of Building Information Modeling using WordCloud through Comparison of Korean and International Journals (워드클라우드를 이용한 국내·외 BIM 연구 동향 분석)

  • Introduction and use of Building Information Modeling(BIM) in construction projects have increased steadily over the past few years. However, the level of domestic BIM utilization is still tenuous compared to the international scene. Therefore, this study aims to present the possible directions for BIM research through an analysis of research literatures in Korea as well as in foreign countries. Papers on BIM were collected for this study from Korea and foreign countries for the field of architecture, and analyses and comparisons were performed by year and field. Further, the research patterns were analyzed using WordCloud, which is one of the popular big data techniques. From the analysis, it is found that the design field still constitutes the largest component of research, but the construction field is actively developing as well. In addition, it is realized that domestic BIM research continues to grow on collaboration and environment-friendly methodologies since 2012; it is also demonstrated that foreign BIM research has undergone changes in research trends every year including recently, and is progressing actively. Therefore, this study concludes that it is necessary to actively conduct research in the field of Industry Foundation Class(IFC) in the future. The results of this study can further be used as reference data for conducting BIM studies in Korea in the future.

  • Hydrazine, which is used as a representative monopropellant, is an extremely poisonous substance and has a disadvantage that it is harmful to the human body and is very difficult to handle. In recent years, research on the development of non-toxic and environmentally friendly propellants has attracted much attention. Ammonium dinitramide(ADN) based propellant developed by Swedish Space Corporation has superior performance to hydrazine and has been commercialized through performance verification in space environment. On the other hand, the exhaust gas from a thruster nozzle collides with a satellite while it is spreading in the vacuum space, thermal load and surface contamination may occur and may reduce the performance and lifetime of the satellite. However, a study on the effect of the exhaust gas of the green propellant thruster on the satellite has not been conducted in earnest yet. Therefore, the exhaust gas behavior in space was analyzed in this study for the ADN based green monopropellant using Navier-Stokes equations and the DSMC method. As a result, it can be expected to be used as design validation data in the development of satellite when using the ADN based green monopropellant.
