The positioning technology for a moving object is an important and essential component of ubiquitous computing environment and applications, for which Radio Frequency Identification(RFID) has been considered as a core technology. RFID-based positioning system calculates the position of moving object based on k-nearest neighbor(k-nn) algorithm using detected k-tags which have known coordinates and kcan be determined according to the detection range of RFID system. In this paper, RFID-based positioning system determines the position of moving object not using weight factor which depends on received signal strength but assuming that tags within the detection range always operate and have same weight value. Because the latter system is much more economical than the former one. The geometries of tags were determined with considerations in huge buildings like office buildings, shopping malls and warehouses, so they were determined as the line in I-Dimensional space, the square in 2-Dimensional space. In 1-Dimensional space, the optimal detection range is determined as 125% of the tag spacing distance through the analytical and numerical approach. Here, the analytical approach means a mathematical proof and the numerical approach means a simulation using matlab. But the analytical approach is very difficult in 2-Dimensional space, so through the numerical approach, the optimal detection range is determined as 134% of the tag spacing distance in 2-Dimensional space. This result can be used as a fundamental study for designing RFID-based positioning system.

Industrial robots are powerful, extremely accurate multi-jointed systems, but they are heavy and highly rigid because of their mechanical structure and motorization. Therefore, sharing the robot working space with its environment is problematic. A novel pneumatic artificial muscle actuator (PAM actuator) has been regarded during the recent decades as an interesting alternative to hydraulic and electric actuators. Its main advantages are high strength and high power/weight ratio, low cost, compactness, ease of maintenance, cleanliness, readily available and cheap power source, inherent safety and mobility assistance to humans performing tasks. The PAM is undoubtedly the most promising artificial muscle for the actuation of new types of industrial robots such as Rubber Actuator and PAM manipulators. However, some limitations still exist, such as the air compressibility and the lack of damping ability of the actuator bring the dynamic delay of the pressure response and cause the oscillatory motion. In addition, the nonlinearities in the PAM manipulator still limit the controllability. Therefore, it is not easy to realize motion with high accuracy and high speed and with respect to various external inertia loads in order to realize a human-friendly therapy robot To overcome these problems a novel controller, which harmonizes a phase plane switching control method with conventional PID controller and the adaptabilities of neural network, is newly proposed. In order to realize satisfactory control performance a variable damper - Magneto-Rheological Brake (MRB) is equipped to the joint of the manipulator. Superb mixture of conventional PID controller and a phase plane switching control using neural network brings us a novel controller. This proposed controller is appropriate for a kind of plants with nonlinearity uncertainties and disturbances. The experiments were carried out in practical PAM manipulator and the effectiveness of the proposed control algorithm was demonstrated through experiments, which had proved that the stability of the manipulator can be improved greatly in a high gain control by using MRB with phase plane switching control using neural network and without regard for the changes of external inertia loads.

This paper describes a control system for positioning the real-time locations of the autonomous warfare vehicles and infantry, and for avoiding collisions between them. The control system utilizes the low-cost RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indication) for positioning the locations of the wireless devices. The mathematical mean filtering processes are applied to the calculation of the RSS matrix to improve the performance for positioning the wireless devices in the multi-path propagation environment. A fuzzy rule is proposed to recover and replace the broken packets occurring in the wireless communication. The gradient and geometric triangulation algorithms are proposed to trace the real-time locations of wireless devices, based on the distances between them. The estimated location results of the geometric triangulation algorithm are compared with the results of the GPS and the gradient algorithm.

Surfaces of PTFE and PVDF were modified by ion-assisted reaction (IAR) in which 1 keV $Ar^{+}$ ions were irradiated on the surface of the polymer with varying ion dose in an oxygen gas environment, and Cu, Pt, Al and Ag thin films were deposited on the modified polymers. Wettability of the modified polymers was largely improved by the formation of hydrophilic groups due to chemical reaction between polymer surface and the oxygen gas during IAR. The change in wettability in the modified polymers was also related to the change in surface morphology and roughness. Adhesion between metal films and polymers modified by IAR was significantly improved, so that no detachment was possible in the $Scotch^{TM}$ tape test. The increase of adhesion strength between the metal film and the modified PVDF was mainly attributed to the formation of hydrophilic groups, which interacted with the metal film. In the case of the modified PTFE, the enhanced adhesion to metal film could be explained by the change in surface morphology together with the formation of hydrophilic groups. The electrical properties of the metal films on the modified polymers were also investigated.
The main objective of this study is to evaluate the long-term performance of various concrete composites in natural marine environment prevailing in the Gulf region. Durability assessment studies of such nature are usually carried out under aggressive environments that constitute seawater, chloride and sulfate laden soils and wind, and groundwater conditions. These studies are very vital for sustainable development of marine and off shore reinforced concrete structures of industrial design such as petroleum installations. First round of testing and evaluation, which is presented in this paper, were performed by standard tests under laboratory conditions. Laboratory results presented in this paper will be corroborated with test outcome of ongoing three years field exposure conditions. The field study will include different parameters of investigation for high performance concrete including corrosion inhibitors, type of reinforcement, natural and industrial pozzolanic additives, water to cement ratio, water type, cover thickness, curing conditions, and concrete coatings. Like the laboratory specimens, samples in the field will be monitored for corrosion induced deterioration signs and for any signs of failureover initial period ofthree years. In this paper, laboratory results pertaining to microsilica (SF), ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS), epoxy coated rebars and calcium nitrite corrosion inhibitor are very conclusive. Results affirmed that the supplementary cementing materials such as GGBS and SF significantly impacted and enhanced concrete resistivity to chloride ions penetration and hence decrease the corrosion activities on steel bars protected by such concretes. As for epoxy coated rebars applications under high chloride laden conditions, results showed great concern to integrity of the epoxy coating layer on the bar and its stability. On the other hand corrosion inhibiting admixtures such as calcium nitrite proved to be more effective when used in combination with the pozzolanic additives such as GGBS and microsilica.
In the stability analysis of hillside slopes, the roots of vegetation have been considered to act as a soil reinforcement. In order to predict the amount of increase in soil shear resistance, produced by tensile strength of roots that intersect a potential slip surface in hillside slopes, new soil -root interaction models are proposed in this paper. For this purpose, firstly, laboratary teats and in-situ tests wert performed on soil-root systems, and experimental results were compared with a couple of soil-root interaction models which had been proposed by Gray, Waldron, and Wu etc. Based on this comparison, a new soil-root interaction model is proposed. Secondly, a probabilistic soil-root model is proposed based on statistical analysis considering random nature of root distribution, root characteristics, and soil-root interactions. Finally, to examine the effect of this root reinforcement system on stability of hillside slopes, a simple three-dimensional stability analysis was performed, and it was shown that root reinforcement had a significant stabilizing influence on shallow slips rather than deep slips in hillside slopes.

With respect to this research, the College of Arts and Design, Kon Kuk University founded Design Venture of KKU(Kon Kuk University) in July 2001 as an approach to tackle the issue on how to accept and respond to the waves of changes in paradigms of the 21st century represented by information revolution. Such move is to cope more effectively with the changes in the current educational environment with an aim to secure the competitive edges compatible with the conditions of each college under the uniform and standardized educational systems. Even the professionals in the design fields of this country try to find the significance in bringing out in the open the latent creative talents of the students by improving the quality of our daily necessities and putting the students through more practical training, and in creating international competitiveness of our design field by encouraging the students to gain more diverse experiences. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to present the approaches to revitalize Design Venture of Kon Kuk University which has been managed as part of the efforts to establish the new identity for the design of this country in the 21st century, and to present the new model for an enterprise which, rooted in the College, can grow into a high value-added business. The methodology for this research is based on the case study of Design Venture of Kon Kuk University and investigation into the literature. The contents of this research include the following three steps. Firstly, initial research is made into the background for founding the College of Arts and Design which had been promoted as a differentiated strategy for the long-term and short-term development plan of the College of Arts and Design, in Chungju Campus of Kon Kuk University. Secondly, the basic strategy for Vonchi, brand of Design Venture of KKU and the brand launching process are examined. Thirdly, Various approaches to revitalize the Vonchi brand recognition are collected and analyzed to present the conclusion and the alternative. Such research findings as given above on Design Venture of KKU may satisfy diverse consumer-oriented requirements on the strength of the characterization and differentiation of the college and may enhance the competitive edge of the college.

This paper is dealing with the fundamental properties of planting concrete, replacing the existing cover concrete on the roof of a building. This study is to find out the physical characteristics of the planting concrete and rearing characteristics of the grass throughout the modeling experimental materials. As the results of the experiment, the physical properties of planting concrete show the following results; when the paste to aggregate ratio is 0.2~ 0.4, voids volume : 30~17%, unit weight: 1,710~2,010kg/m3, compressive strength : 45~145kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$, its pH is more than 11, but is reduced to the proper degree for planting after being neutralized. Kentucky bluegrass covered with planting concrete is grown well. The planting concrete used with blast furnace slag cement shows a better properties at the height, the width and the covering rate by 1.1cm, 0.5mm and 7%, respectively, than those used with ordinary portland cement. Also, the less the paste to aggregate ratio is, the better the plant grows. The orders of the effects of temperature control are as follows; the system of planting concrete with grass>the system of planting concrete without grass>the system of mixed soil>the existed roof system. In case, the planting concrete is placed to the roofs of buildings instead of normal concrete slab, and a number of favorable effect can be expected such as the improvement os environmental factors, the reduction of construction cost, the saving of energy and the reduction of environment load. The future research on the change of a variety of the aggregate conditions and the application of the practical structures should be made, and also the research of the endurance also be performed.

In this study, ethylene-propylene-diene monomer (EPDM) rubbers reinforced with various particle size of carbon black were prepared and tested. We followed recently published CSA/ANSI CHMC2 standard "the test methods for evaluating material compatibility in compressed hydrogen applications-polyemr". Measurement of change in hardness, tensile strength and volume were performed after exposure to maximum operating pressure, 87.5 MPa, for 168 hours (1 week). Once EPDM was exposed to high-pressure hydrogen, the samples experience volume increase and degradation of the physical properties. Also, after the dissolved hydrogen was fully eliminated from the specimens, the hardness and the tensile properties were not recovered. The rubber reinforced with smaller sizes of carbon black particles showed less volume expansion and decrease of physical properties. As a result, smaller particle size of carbon black filler led to more resistance to high-pressure hydrogen.
