  • Both timbral features and spatial features are important in the assessment of multichannel audio coding systems. The prediction model, extending the ITU-R Rec. BS. 1387-1 to multichannel audio coding systems, with the use of spatial features such as ITDDist (Interaural Time Difference Distortion), ILDDist (Interaural Level Difference Distortion), and IACCDist (InterAural Cross-correlation Coefficient Distortion) was proposed by Choi et al. In that model, ITDDistswere only computed for low frequency bands (below 1500Hz), and ILDDists were computed only for high frequency bands (over 2500Hz) according to classical duplex theory. However, in the high frequency range, information in temporal envelope is also important in spatial perception, especially in sound localization. A new model to compute the ITD distortions of temporal envelopes in high frequency components is introduced in this paper to investigate the role of such ITD on spatial perception quantitatively. The computed ITD distortions of temporal envelopes in high frequency components were highly correlated with perceived sound quality of multichannel audio sounds.

  • This paper presents theoretical and experimental analysis on the characteristics of the power spectrum of electormagnetic waves radiating from the spark plug and their cables of a distributorless ignition system. The theoretical study was conducted applying the microwave transmission line theory and the antenna theory. The experimental works were carried out to measure the standing wave ratio(SWR) and the radiation power spectrum of this system. As a result, it has been found that a spark plug and its cable is working as a monopole antenna radiating elelctromagnetic waves. Because of its similar structure to a monopole antenna, the envelope of radiation power spectrum distribution has a bell shape which can be obtained from a monopole antenna operating as a series resonant circuit. The frequency characteristics from the SWR measurements show a similar frequency characteristics of power spectrum of the system studied. Also, it has been found that the density of the power spectrum of the system fitting a long time used spark plug is higher than that of fitting a new spark plug.

  • Our understanding of how brown dwarfs form is limited by observational evidence. We report identification of a L328-IRS as a proto-brown dwarf embedded in an isolated dense molecular core. This source exhibits typical properties of a protostar, however, its luminosity (~0.05 $L{\odot}$) is far below than expected from the least massive protostar by the standard star formation theory. The most likely mass accretion rate (~2.4 10-7 $M{\odot}$ yr-1) inferred from its small bipolar outflow is an order of magnitude less than the canonical value for a protostar. The mass available in its envelope is less than 0.1 $M{\odot}$. These points suggest that L328-IRS will accrete the mass of a brown dwarf, but not that of a star. L328 is found to be fairly well isolated from other nearby clouds and seems to be forming three sub-cores simultaneously through a gravitational fragmentation process. Altogether with these, our direct detection of inward motions in L328 which harbors this proto-brown dwarf clearly supports the idea that a brown dwarf forms like a normal star.

  • This paper presents a detecting technique for the improvement in quality by appling the various vibrational characteristics theory. The object of this study is to objectively point out faulty gear by developing the program which can be used to analyze and predict the vibrational characteristics caused by gear wear, deformation and nick of auto-transmission. The fault detection methods by vibrational signal analysis of gear have been progressed in the various fields of industry. These methods have the advantage of being easy to attach the accelerometer without discontinuance of the structure. But not all the methods are efficient for finding early faults. So in the thesis, we completed development of the inspection system of vibration by appling the most efficient detecting methods and verified the system's reliability through experiments.

  • Blue Compact Dwarf galaxies (BCDs) are low-mass galaxies with recently enhanced star formation activity. Since the discovery of old stellar population in the BCDs, a number of hypotheses have been suggested as the origin of the current active star formation. One theory is tidal interactions such as fly-by and merger. In this study we test this hypothesis using a pair of BCDs, ESO 435-IG20 and ESO 435-IG16 that are separate by only ~80 kpc in projection at a similar redshift (at a ~9 Mpc distance). In the HIPASS survey, intergalactic atomic hydrogen envelope has been found to be covering both galaxies, making the pair a good candidate for the case where the star formation has been triggered by tidal interaction. We probe the gas morphology and kinematics of the BCD pair using ATCA HI data in order to find the evidence of tidal interaction. We also estimate star formation rates in the pair based on Ha emission and UV continuum, and compare with other dwarf galaxies to investigate how responsible the tidal interaction is for the enhanced star formation in this case.

  • This present paper describes a mathematical model of profile elliptical gears, and this model is based on the concepts of envelop theory and conjugate geometry between the blank and the straight-sided rack cutter. The geometric model of the rack cutter includes working regions generating involute curves andd fillets for trocoidal curves, and furthermore the addendum modified coeff,is considered for avoiding undercutting. The addendum modified coeff, is changed linearly along with pitch curves and must be the must be the same absolute value at both major semi-axis and minor semi-axis. If undercutting is at all pronounced, the undercut tooth not only are weakened in strength, but lose a small portion of the involute adjacent to the base circle, then this loss of involute may ncause a serios reduction in the length of contact. A very effective method of avoiding undercutting is to use the so-called profile shifted gearing. Non-undercutting conditon is examined with the change of eccentricity and addendum modefied coeff. in elliptical gears and then the minimum number of tooth is proposed not to gernerate undercutting phenomenon.

  • The structure of 3-aminophenol $(CO_2)_1$ cluster was computationally studied both in the ground and the lowest singlet excited electronic states. The ground state structure and binding energy of the cluster was investigated using the second-order M$\ddoot{o}$ller-Plesset perturbation theory (MP2) at the complete basis set (CBS) limit. The excited state geometry of the cluster was obtained at the second-order approximate coupled cluster (CC2) level with cc-pVDZ basis set, and the $S_0-S_1$ absorption spectrum was simulated by calculating Franck-Condon overlap integral. The ground state geometry of the global minimum with a very high binding energy of 4.3 kcal/mol was found for the cluster, due to the interaction between amino group and $CO_2$ in addition to the strong $\pi-\pi$ interaction between the aromatic ring and $CO_2$. The excited state geometry shows a very big shift in the position of $CO_2$ compared to the ground state geometry, which results in low intensity and broad envelope in the Franck-Condon simulation.

  • Double skin facade(DSF) ventilated by fans consists of a normal external and an internal envelope. In this glass layer, the installed fan replaces an air inlet for the control of air flow through the cavity. The purpose of this paper is to investigate physical theory and to analyze the applicability of fans installed in a DSF. The experiment was conducted in 2 rooms. One room has a DSF with installed fans and the other one has a typical window. The room ventilated through a DSF which fans are installed was always kept warmer than the other room, ventilated directly from the outdoors. The average increase of the supplied air temperature through the DSF ventilated by fans was $6.54^{\circ}C$ at 78CMH, $6.2^{\circ}C$ at 95CMH, and $3.7^{\circ}C$ at 120CMH. As a result, the DSF with installed fans was appropriate for installation in rooms. It supplies outdoor fresh air heated through a cavity and ventilates a constant air volume.

  • The possibility of modeling the complex and diversified radio environment using Rician channel has been considered. The signals received in Rician channel have been simulated using the computer simulator. The PDF(Probability Density Function of the Envelope amplitude), PSD(Power Spectral Density), LCR(Level Crossing Rate), ADF(Average Duration of Fades) and BER(Bit Error Rate) of the simulated signal have been compared with those of theory. They were shown to be in good agreement.
