Entity name recognition is a part of information extraction that extracts entity names from documents and classifies the types of extracted entity names. Entity name recognition technologies are widely used in natural language processing, such as information retrieval, machine translation, and query response systems. Various deep learning-based models exist to improve entity name recognition performance, but studies that compared and analyzed these models on Korean data are insufficient. In this paper, we compare and analyze the performance of CRF, LSTM-CRF, BiLSTM-CRF, and BERT, which are actively used to identify entity names using Korean data. Also, we compare and evaluate whether embedding models, which are variously used in recent natural language processing tasks, can affect the entity name recognition model's performance improvement. As a result of experiments on patent data and Korean corpus, it was confirmed that the BiLSTM-CRF using FastText method showed the highest performance.
Named Entity Recognition and Classification (NERC) is a task for recognition and classification of named entities such as a person's name, location, and organization. There have been various studies carried out on Korean NERC, but they have some problems, for example lacking some features as compared with English NERC. In this paper, we propose a method that uses word embedding as features for Korean NERC. We generate a word vector using a Continuous-Bag-of-Word (CBOW) model from POS-tagged corpus, and a word cluster symbol using a K-means algorithm from a word vector. We use the word vector and word cluster symbol as word embedding features in Conditional Random Fields (CRFs). From the result of the experiment, performance improved 1.17%, 0.61% and 1.19% respectively for TV domain, Sports domain and IT domain over the baseline system. Showing better performance than other NERC systems, we demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed method.
Recognition of named entity such as proper nouns in conversation sentences is the most fundamental and important field of study for efficient conversational information prediction. The most important part of a task-oriented dialogue system is to recognize what attributes an object in a conversation has. The named entity recognition model carries out recognition of the named entity through the preprocessing, word embedding, and prediction steps for the dialogue sentence. This study aims at using user - defined dictionary in preprocessing stage and finding optimal parameters at word embedding stage for efficient dialogue information prediction. In order to test the designed object name recognition model, we selected the field of daily chemical products and constructed the named entity recognition model that can be applied in the task-oriented dialogue system in the related domain.
Named entity recognition (NER) seeks to locate and classify named entities in text into pre-defined categories such as names of persons, organizations, locations, expressions of times, etc. Recently, many state-of-the-art NER systems have been implemented with bidirectional LSTM CRFs. Deep learning models based on long short-term memory (LSTM) generally depend on word representations as input. In this paper, we propose an approach to expand word representation by using pre-trained word embedding, part of speech (POS) tag embedding, syllable embedding and named entity dictionary feature vectors. Our experiments show that the proposed approach creates useful word representations as an input of bidirectional LSTM CRFs. Our final presentation shows its efficacy to be 8.05%p higher than baseline NERs with only the pre-trained word embedding vector.

Named entity recognition (NER) is an important basic task in the field of Natural Language Processing (NLP). Recently deep learning approaches by extracting word segmentation or character features have been proved to be effective for Chinese Named Entity Recognition (CNER). However, since this method of extracting features only focuses on extracting some of the features, it lacks textual information mining from multiple perspectives and dimensions, resulting in the model not being able to fully capture semantic features. To tackle this problem, we propose a novel Multi-view Semantic Feature Fusion Model (MSFM). The proposed model mainly consists of two core components, that is, Multi-view Semantic Feature Fusion Embedding Module (MFEM) and Multi-head Self-Attention Mechanism Module (MSAM). Specifically, the MFEM extracts character features, word boundary features, radical features, and pinyin features of Chinese characters. The acquired font shape, font sound, and font meaning features are fused to enhance the semantic information of Chinese characters with different granularities. Moreover, the MSAM is used to capture the dependencies between characters in a multi-dimensional subspace to better understand the semantic features of the context. Extensive experimental results on four benchmark datasets show that our method improves the overall performance of the CNER model.
A chat system is a computer program that understands user's miscellaneous utterances and generates appropriate responses. Sometimes a chat system needs to answer users' simple information-seeking questions. However, previous generative chat systems do not consider how to embed knowledge entities (i.e., subjects and objects in triple knowledge), essential elements for question-answering. The previous chat models have a disadvantage that they generate same responses although knowledge entities in users' utterances are changed. To alleviate this problem, we propose a knowledge entity embedding method for improving question-answering accuracies of a generative chat system. The proposed method uses a Siamese recurrent neural network for embedding knowledge entities and their synonyms. For experiments, we implemented a sequence-to-sequence model in which subjects and predicates are encoded and objects are decoded. The proposed embedding method showed 12.48% higher accuracies than the conventional embedding method based on a convolutional neural network.

Named entity recognition (NER) continues to be an important task in natural language processing because it is featured as a subtask and/or subproblem in information extraction and machine translation. In Urdu language processing, it is a very difficult task. This paper proposes various deep recurrent neural network (DRNN) learning models with word embedding. Experimental results demonstrate that they improve upon current state-of-the-art NER approaches for Urdu. The DRRN models evaluated include forward and bidirectional extensions of the long short-term memory and back propagation through time approaches. The proposed models consider both language-dependent features, such as part-of-speech tags, and language-independent features, such as the "context windows" of words. The effectiveness of the DRNN models with word embedding for NER in Urdu is demonstrated using three datasets. The results reveal that the proposed approach significantly outperforms previous conditional random field and artificial neural network approaches. The best f-measure values achieved on the three benchmark datasets using the proposed deep learning approaches are 81.1%, 79.94%, and 63.21%, respectively.
Named entity recognition (NER) is a crucial task for NLP, which aims to extract information from texts. To build NER systems, deep learning (DL) models are learned with dictionary features by mapping each word in the dataset to dictionary features and generating a unique index. However, this technique might generate noisy labels, which pose significant challenges for the NER task. In this paper, we proposed DL-dictionary features, and evaluated them on two datasets, including the OntoNotes 5.0 dataset and our new infectious disease outbreak dataset named GFID. We used (1) a Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory (BiLSTM) character and (2) pre-trained embedding to concatenate with (3) our proposed features, named the Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), BiLSTM, and self-attention dictionaries, respectively. The combined features (1-3) were fed through BiLSTM - Conditional Random Field (CRF) to predict named entity classes as outputs. We compared these outputs with other predictions of the BiLSTM character, pre-trained embedding, and dictionary features from previous research, which used the exact matching and partial matching dictionary technique. The findings showed that the model employing our dictionary features outperformed other models that used existing dictionary features. We also computed the F1 score with the GFID dataset to apply this technique to extract medical or healthcare information.

This paper proposes a method for bridge damage factor recognition from inspection reports using deep learning. Bridge inspection reports contains inspection results including identified damages and causal analysis results. However, collecting such information from inspection reports manually is limited due to their considerable amount. Therefore, this paper proposes a model for recognizing bridge damage factor from inspection reports applying Named Entity Recognition (NER) using deep learning. Named Entity Recognition, Word Embedding, Recurrent Neural Network, one of deep learning methods, were applied to construct the proposed model. Experimental results showed that the proposed model has abilities to 1) recognize damage and damage factor included in a training data, 2) distinguish a specific word as a damage or a damage factor, depending on its context, and 3) recognize new damage words not included in a training data.
