신호부각법과 결합된 선형예측방법을 이용한 도래각 추정 (Direction-of-Arrival Estimation Using Linear Prediction Method in Conjunction with Signal Enhancement Approach)

  • 본 논문에서는 등간격 선형어레이로 입사하는 다중 인코히어런트 평면파의 도래각을 추정하기 위하여 신 호부각법과 결합된 선형예측방법을 제안한다. 선호부각법의 기본 개념은 Frobenius norm변에서 주어진 추정 행렬에 가장 가까이에 있는 주어진 rank의 공분산 행렬을 찾는 것이다. 선형예측방법은 높은 분해능을 보이나 낮은 신호대 잡음비 환정에서 낮은 통계적 성능을 보이는 것으로 알려져 있다. 이 문제를 해결하기 위하여 선형예측방볍에 신호부각법을 적용하였다. 낮은 신호대 잡음비 환경에서도 제안된 선호부각 선형예측 방법의 성능이 기존의 선형예측방법보다 우수한 통계적 성능을 제공함을 컴퓨터 시율레이션을 통하여 알 수 있었다.

Single-Channel Non-Causal Speech Enhancement to Suppress Reverberation and Background Noise

  • This paper proposes a speech enhancement algorithm to improve the speech intelligibility by suppressing both reverberation and background noise. The algorithm adopts a non-causal single-channel minimum variance distortionless response (MVDR) filter to exploit an additional information that is included in the noisy-reverberant signals in subsequent frames. The noisy-reverberant signals are decomposed into the parts of the desired signal and the interference that is not correlated to the desired signal. Then, the filter equation is derived based on the MVDR criterion to minimize the residual interference without bringing speech distortion. The estimation of the correlation parameter, which plays an important role to determine the overall performance of the system, is mathematically derived based on the general statistical reverberation model. Furthermore, the practical implementation methods to estimate sub-parameters required to estimate the correlation parameter are developed. The efficiency of the proposed enhancement algorithm is verified by performance evaluation. From the results, the proposed algorithm achieves significant performance improvement in all studied conditions and shows the superiority especially for the severely noisy and strongly reverberant environment.

음성 강화를 위한 a priori SNR 추정기반 적응 바람소리 저감 방법 (An Adaptive Wind Noise Reduction Method Based on a priori SNR Estimation for Speech Eenhancement)

  • This paper focuses on a priori signal to noise ratio (SNR) estimation method for the speech enhancement. There are many researches for speech enhancement with several ambient noise cancellation methods. The method based on spectral subtraction (SS) which is widely used in noise reduction has a trade-off between the performance and the distortion of the signals. So the need of adaptive method like an estimated a priori SNR being able to making a high performance and low distortion is increasing. The decision directed (DD) approach is used to determine a priori SNR in noisy speech signals. A priori SNR is estimated by using only the magnitude components and consequently follows a posteriori SNR with one frame delay. We propose a modified a priori SNR estimator and the weighted rational transfer function for speech enhancement with wind noises. The experimental result shows the performance of our proposed estimator is better Perceptual Evaluation of Speech Quality scores (PESQ, ITU-T P.862) compare to the conventional DD approach-based systems and different noise reduction methods.

보컬 피치 검출의 성능 향상을 위한 보컬 강화 기술 (Vocal Enhancement for Improving the Performance of Vocal Pitch Detection)

  • 본 논문에서는 다성 음악 신호의 보컬 피치 검출 성능을 향상시키기 위해 음악 신호의 보컬 신호를 강화시키는 전처리 기술을 제안한다. 제안한 보컬 강화 기술은 입력된 다성 음악 신호로부터 반주 신호를 예측하고, 예측된 반주 신호를 입력된 보컬 신호의 크기에 맞춰 가공하여 반주 복사본 신호를 생성한다. 마지막으로 주파수 영역에서 반주 복사본 신호를 원래 다성 음악 신호에서 제거하여 보컬이 강화된 출력 신호를 생성한다. 원 음악 신호와 제안한 방법으로 보컬이 강화된 신호에 동일한 보컬 피치 검출 방법을 각각 적용하여 피치 검출의 정확도를 측정하였고, 제안한 기술에 의하여 피치 검출 정확도가 평균 7.1 % 포인트 향상된 것을 확인하였다.

Optimal Scheme of Retinal Image Enhancement using Curvelet Transform and Quantum Genetic Algorithm

  • A new optimal scheme based on curvelet transform is proposed for retinal image enhancement (RIE) using real-coded quantum genetic algorithm. Curvelet transform has better performance in representing edges than classical wavelet transform for its anisotropy and directional decomposition capabilities. For more precise reconstruction and better visualization, curvelet coefficients in corresponding subbands are modified by using a nonlinear enhancement mapping function. An automatic method is presented for selecting optimal parameter settings of the nonlinear mapping function via quantum genetic search strategy. The performance measures used in this paper provide some quantitative comparison among different RIE methods. The proposed method is tested on the DRIVE and STARE retinal databases and compared with some popular image enhancement methods. The experimental results demonstrate that proposed method can provide superior enhanced retinal image in terms of several image quantitative evaluation indexes.

SVM의 확률 출력을 이용한 새로운 Global Soft Decision 기반의 음성 향상 기법 (Global Soft Decision Using Probabilistic Outputs of Support Vector Machine for Speech Enhancement)

  • 본 논문에서는 support vector machine (SVM) 기반의 global soft decison (GSD)을 이용한 새로운 음성 향상 기법을 제시한다. 일반적으로 soft decision (SD) 이득 수정 및 잡음 전력 추정에 근거한 음성 향상 기법이 hard decision을 이용한 음성향상 기법 보다 우수한 성능을 보이는 것으로 알려져 있다. 특히, 각 프레임에서의 음성 부재에 대한 효과적인 척도인 전역음성 부재확률 (global speech absence probability, GSAP)을 SD 기반의 음성 향상 기법에 적용한 여러 연구가 진행되었다. 본 논문에서는 sigmoid 함수를 이용하여 얻어진 SVM의 확률 출력에 의해 추정된 새로운 GSAP를 음성 향상 기법에 적용한다. 제안된 알고리즘의 성능은 다양한 잡음 환경에 적용하여 PESQ 및 MOS 평가 방법을 바탕으로 기존의 GSD 기반의 스펙트럼 향상 기법과 비교하여 향상된 결과를 나타내었다.

Sparse 표현을 이용한 X선 흡수 영상 개선 (X-ray Absorptiometry Image Enhancement using Sparse Representation)

  • 대사성 골 질환인 골다공증(Osteoporosis)의 조기 진단을 위해 X 선 영상에서 골 밀도를 측정하는 방법이 최근 연구되고 있다. 골 밀도는 X 선 영상에서 뼈가 분리되고, 분리된 영역에서의 픽셀에 의해 BMD가 측정되는데, 개선된 영상에서의 정밀한 뼈 추출이 주요한 요소이므로 X 선 영상의 개선은 골다공증의 조기 진단을 위해 필수적이다. 본 논문에서는 sparse 표현을 도입하여 다중(multiple) 잡음을 갖는 X 선 영상을 개선시키는 방법을 제안한다. 실험을 통해 제안한 방법의 결과가 기존의 방법인 웨이블릿 BayesShrink 잡음 제거 방법 및 일반적 sparse 표현 모델의 잡음 제거 방법의 결과에 비해 개선됨을 CNR(Contrast to Noise Ratio) 및 cut-view를 통해 확인하였다.

Automatic Contrast Enhancement by Transfer Function Modification

  • In this study, we propose an automatic contrast enhancement method based on transfer function modification (TFM) by histogram equalization. Previous histogram-based global contrast enhancement techniques employ histogram modification, whereas we propose a direct TFM technique that considers the mean brightness of an image during contrast enhancement. The mean point shifting method using a transfer function is proposed to preserve the mean brightness of an image. In addition, the linearization of transfer function technique, which has a histogram flattening effect, is designed to reduce visual artifacts. An attenuation factor is automatically determined using the maximum value of the probability density function in an image to control its rate of contrast. A new quantitative measurement method called sparsity of a histogram is proposed to obtain a better objective comparison relative to previous global contrast enhancement methods. According to our experimental results, we demonstrated the performance of our proposed method based on generalized measures and the newly proposed measurement.

A Study of TCP Performance with Snoop Protocol over Fading Wireless Links

  • In this paper, we have analyzed TCP performance over wireless correlated fading links with and without Snoop protocol. For a given value of the packet error rate, TCP performance without Snoop protocol is degraded as the fading is getting fast (i.e. the user moves fast). When Snoop protocol is introduced in the base station, TCP performance is enhanced in most wireless environments. Especially the performance enhancement derived from using Snoop protocol is large in fast fading channel. This is because packet errors become random and sporadic in fast fading channel and these random packet errors (mostly single packet errors) can be compensated efficiently by Snoop protocol's local packet retransmissions. But Snoop protocol can't give a large performance improvement in slow fading environments where long bursts of packet errors occur. Concerning to packet error rate, Snoop protocol results in the highest performance enhancement in the channel with mid-high values of packet error rate. This means Snoop protocol cannot fully fulfill its ability under too low or too high packet error rate environments.

An Adaptive Histogram Equalization Based Local Technique for Contrast Preserving Image Enhancement

  • The main purpose of image enhancement is to improve certain characteristics of an image to improve its visual quality. This paper proposes a method for image contrast enhancement that can be applied to both medical and natural images. The proposed algorithm is designed to achieve contrast enhancement while also preserving the local image details. To achieve this, the proposed method combines local image contrast preserving dynamic range compression and contrast limited adaptive histogram equalization (CLAHE). Global gain parameters for contrast enhancement are inadequate for preserving local image details. Therefore, in the proposed method, in order to preserve local image details, local contrast enhancement at any pixel position is performed based on the corresponding local gain parameter, which is calculated according to the current pixel neighborhood edge density. Different image quality measures are used for evaluating the performance of the proposed method. Experimental results show that the proposed method provides more information about the image details, which can help facilitate further image analysis.
