In foreign language, vocabulary is the most essential and fundamental elements. Traditional language learning methods that are to understand and to memorize the English contents can only be obvious limitations. In this paper, we proposed the speaking-centered learning methods based on cognitive strategies and speech recognition considering the learner characteristics. We have designed and implemented the cognitive strategy-based speaking training system for acquisition elementary English vocabulary. We were divided into control group and the experimental group and applied to the system to analyze the learning effect. The result of Analysis, the proposed system is increased motivation and achievement of learners. In addition, the proposed system is improved an academic learning participation, Project accomplish, self-interesting and leadership skills. Through this study, we expect that students improve the ability of practical skills in speaking English.

The International Convention on Standards for Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping of Seafarers (STCW) outlines the qualifications that maritime cadets must meet in order to serve as merchant marine officers. Maritime English is one of the most essential qualifications for STCW, and each national authority is implementing Maritime English education that complies with national and international regulations. In this study, an English proficiency background survey was conducted to investigate the factors related to the Maritime English skills and competencies. In line with this, maritime cadets utilized the Standard Maritime English Communication Phrases (SMCP) learning platform to track their learning progress and its efficacy. This study examined the applicability of the automatic scoring platform for Maritime English education, as well as its future potential for widespread use in the maritime education field.

The focus of this study is on the new instructional and pedagogical application of teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL) with technology and by gender. Participants comprised 204 TEFL students in Korea. The study was conducted in the 2017 academic year. For this study, all participants attended English class using technology for three hours a week. Course syllabus, lecture notes, and other study materials were uploaded to the school website. Homework assignments, quizzes, and exams were also distributed through the website. To ascertain whether there are any differential effects from gender on learning English as a foreign language using technology, the quantitative materials included pre- and post-tests. This study also adopted qualitative methods, with structured interviews to obtain participants' comprehensive view of technology-assisted English lessons. Paired sample t-tests and independent t-tests were administered to analyze the quantitative data. The qualitative data were analyzed with the content analysis method. Findings show that both male and female students improved their English-speaking skills using technology. However, no gender difference was found in technology-assisted TEFL. Technology use for learning English also resulted in both genders' positive perceptions of language lessons. Based on these findings, this study yields practical implications for TEFL teachers in Korea.

Snyder (2001) proposes that complex predicate constructions are interrelated by shared dependence on a single parameter, the Compounding Parameter, and that the global application of the parameter explains the simultaneous acquisition of the complex predicate constructions and N-N compounds in L1 acquisition of English. Slabakova (2002) examined the status of the Compounding Parameter in the acquisition of L2 Spanish by instructed learners. The result of the study, however, was not compatible with the prediction of the Compounding Parameter, possibly due to the availability of negative evidence in the input. Building upon Slabakova's study, this paper examines the status of the Compounding Parameter in naturalistic L2 learning. It is shown that the naturalistic L2 learners do not acquire the complex predicate constructions and N-N compounds concurrently contra to the prediction of the Compounding Parameter. It is suggested that the validity of the Compounding Parameter as a theoretical construct be reconsidered.

우리나라에는 영어 학습을 위한 수많은 도구들이 있다. 특히, 최근 스마트폰의 출현으로 영어 학습을 위한 어플리케이션 개발이 활발하다. 그러나 대부분 영어단어를 단순히 암기하는 방법에 관한 것으로 텍스트 분석에 대한 어플리케이션은 부재하다. 본 논문에서는 사용자가 텍스트를 입력하면 단어가 갖고 있는 희소성에 따라 온톨로지 기반으로 분석되어져서 등급을 매기는 어플리케이션 시스템을 제안한다. 결과물은 파일 시스템과 데이터베이스에 저장되어 사용자는 텍스트의 희소성에 따라 선택한 텍스트를 읽음으로서 사용자의 눈높이에 맞게 신속하고 효율적인 어휘획득 능력을 갖게 된다.

In the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, digital transformation is emerging in the education and learning fields. As the use of the mobile Internet and mobile devices has become a daily life, mobile learning that supports a variety of learning in a mobile environment is drawing attention. Mobile learning applications (apps) are expected to expand their use by providing a convenient learning environment anytime, anywhere. This study investigates the use of mobile learning apps in English education, which is one of the most popular learning areas, and empirically examines the factors that influence the continuous use of mobile learning apps. In particular, it analyzes the differences between Chinese and Korean users. The results of this study provide theoretical and practical implications to promote the development of mobile apps suitable for mobile learning environments and the sustainable user growth in mobile learning.

본 논문에서는 유아 영어 단어 학습 애플리케이션을 설계하고 구현한다. 이 애플리케이션은 키넥트 센서의 음성 인식 기능을 활용하여 동물과 음식 분야의 단어 학습 기능을 제공한다. 화면에 출력된 이미지에 해당하는 영어 단어를 말하면 키넥트 센서에서 그 음성을 인식하여 해당 단어의 발음이 정확한지 판별한다. 주어진 시간 내에 다양한 단어를 정확하게 발음함으로써 높은 점수를 취득하도록 구현한다.

In order to improve and promote immersive learning experiences for English as a Second Language (ESL) students, the deployment of a YOLOv5 model for object identification in videos is proposed. The procedure includes collecting annotated datasets, preparing the data, and then fine-tuning a model using the YOLOv5 framework. The study's major objective is to integrate a well-trained model into ESL instruction in order to analyze the effectiveness of AI application in the field.

Recently, a technique for applying a deep learning language model pretrained from a large corpus to fine-tuning for each application task has been widely used as a language processing technology. The pretrained language model shows higher performance and satisfactory generalization performance than existing methods. This paper introduces the major research trends related to deep learning pretrained language models in the field of language processing. We describe in detail the motivations, models, learning methods, and results of the BERT language model that had significant influence on subsequent studies. Subsequently, we introduce the results of language model studies after BERT, focusing on SpanBERT, RoBERTa, ALBERT, BART, and ELECTRA. Finally, we introduce the KorBERT pretrained language model, which shows satisfactory performance in Korean language. In addition, we introduce techniques on how to apply the pretrained language model to Korean (agglutinative) language, which consists of a combination of content and functional morphemes, unlike English (refractive) language whose endings change depending on the application.

This paper, drawing on various secondary sources related to bilingualism and bilingual education, proposes a semi-CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) model as an initial option for Korea's ELT instruction at a primary level, with a subsequent application to a secondary level in mind. It is reported that the current pedagogy focused on early English education and communicative language teaching does not meet the needs of students' EFL proficiency. The main reasons for this are considered to lie in the social and educational environment which impedes EFL students' meaningful and authentic communication in target language. Thus, by exploring a conceptual approach to such a problem, this paper suggests a paradigm of integrating content and language for a reasonable solution.
