A impeller hub is usually made through three forging processes : forward extrustion, upsetting and finishing. The finishing process is closed die forging in which the load increases abruptly at the final stage, resulting in underfilling in the finished product due to insufficient load capacity of the press. In this study, the rigid-plastic finite element analysis was applied to the impeller hub forging process in order to optimize process and to estimate required load. As a result, two kind of improvements for the process were suggested to reduce the load requirement in the finishing process.

In the present study, monitoring of elliptical vibration cutting process by utilizing internal data in the ultrasonic elliptical vibration device without external sensors such as a dynamometer and displacement sensor is investigated. The internal data utilized here is the change of excitation frequency, i.e. resonant frequency of the device, voltages applied to the piezoelectric actuators composing the device, and electric currents flowing through the actuators. These internal data change automatically in the elliptical vibration control system in order to keep a constant elliptical vibration against the change of the cutting process. Correlativity between the process and the internal data is described by using a vibration model of ultrasonic elliptical vibration cutting and verified by several experiments, i.e. planing and mirror surface finishing of hardened die steel carried out with single crystalline diamond tools. As a result, it is proved that it is possible to estimate the elements of elliptical vibration cutting process, e.g. tool wear and machining load, which are important for stable cutting in such precision machining.

In this research, the performance evaluation between an alternating type process and a recirculating type process was investigated by using mathematical models. The Advanced Phase Isolation Ditch (APID) process and the $A^2/O$ process were selected the target processes of the alternating type and recirculating type, respectively. For more quantitative evaluation, 5 performance indexes which included economy and energy efficiency as well as effluent quality were used, and various disturbance conditions of influent were given to the process models. As simulation results, the APID process which had the specific operation modes to use the organic matter in influent effectively showed higher efficiency of denitrification than the $A^2/O$ process. In the case of effluent TSS, the $A^2/O$ process that the retention time in reactors could be maintained stably was more effective than the APID process. In the cases of various disturbance condition, although it was identified that both two processes had similar effluent quality, the sludge production of the $A^2/O$ process showed lower than that of the APID process while the APID process showed higher energy efficiency.

In steel making plant, sampling system for raw material such as iron ore, limestone is necessary for quality control purpose. For the sake of efficiency and productivity, automation of the sampling system is highly desirable. From technical standpoint, the development of the automated system requires multi-disciplinary domain knowledge such as mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, information technology and computer engineering. Up to present time, the development has been mainly carried out by a single domain expert with project manager. The automated system developed in this way caused problems in the final system. This paper suggests a systems engineering approach to the development of automation for raw material sampling plant via a tailored process called Plant Systems Engineering (PSE) Process based on ISO/IEC 15288. Through the PSE process, we could derive right requirements and architecture of the Systems Of Interest (SOI), and we were convinced that the PSE Process can be applied to many other Plant Systems.
Process safety incidents and loss events can be prevented if we identify and adequately take measures on process safety incident precursors in a timely manner. If we look into and take action against the process safety hazard factors causing the incident in the refinery and petrochemical plant, major process safety incidents can be prevented through eliminating or decreasing hazardous factors. We conducted a survey for the major process safety incident precursor to look specifically into the potential process safety hazardous factors of refineries and petrochemical plants in the Yeosu chemical complex. A self-assessment checklist, which was published by Center for Chemical Process Safety "Recognizing catastrophic incident warning signs in the process industry" on major incidents warning sign, was used for the survey. Through this survey, the major process safety incident leading indicators in the process industry were found by process safety management elements, and each site and/or facility can use these leading indicators for activities for process safety incident prevention. In addition, we proposed action items required to eliminate the root cause of those process safety incident leading indicators.

Process mining is an analytical technique aimed at obtaining useful information about a process by extracting a process model from events log. However, most existing process models are deterministic because they do not include stochastic elements such as the occurrence probabilities or execution times of activities. Therefore, available information is limited, resulting in the limitations on analyzing and understanding the process. Furthermore, it is also important to develop an efficient methodology to discover the process model. Although genetic process mining algorithm is one of the methods that can handle data with noises, it has a limitation of large computation time when it is applied to data with large capacity. To resolve these issues, in this paper, we define a stochastic process tree and propose a tabu search-genetic process mining (TS-GPM) algorithm for a stochastic process tree. Specifically, we define a two-dimensional array as a chromosome to represent a stochastic process tree, fitness function, a procedure for generating stochastic process tree and a model trace as a string of activities generated from the process tree. Furthermore, by storing and comparing model traces with low fitness values in the tabu list, we can prevent duplicated searches for process trees with low fitness value being performed. In order to verify the performance of the proposed algorithm, we performed a numerical experiment by using two kinds of event log data used in the previous research. The results showed that the suggested TS-GPM algorithm outperformed the GPM algorithm in terms of fitness and computation time.
This paper deals with an application of process value analysis method for a manufacturing process in order to redesign facility layout in a paper company. We have used the value analysis method which permits an overall and rigorous study of process by a functional approach. Firstly, customer's expectations for the future process are clearly and precisely expressed with specifications of the Functional Extern Analysis. The existing process is analyzed using various tool of the Functional Internal Analysis in the second part. From the results of these analysis, we find out that the main problems of current facility are due to scheduling and facility layout. This paper is devoted to resolve the second problem. We suggest an ideal solution in order to have a reference solution. Nextly, We give realistic choices and the final solution for the facility layout.
