  • Carbon powders (CP) and carbon fiber (CF) were introduced info glass fiber reinforced plastics (FRP) composites to obtain fracture detection function. The composites were evaluated through the relation between a load-displacement curve and an electrical resistance change curve in three point bending test. CP containing FRP (CP-FRP) has a sensitivity of electrical resistance change at much lower load level than CF containing FRP (CF-FRP). In loading-unloading tests, CP-FRP showed a large amount of residual electrical resistance which enables the estimation of loading hysteresis.

  • Recently, the applied frequency of composite materials was increased from the viewpoint of lightweight, high strength and low cost when a leisure boat and a fishing boatwere built. However, studies on the mechanical properties of composite material with ship are rare. Specially, a leisure boat and fishing boat with FRP had been built by hand lay-up method. However, the vacuum infusion method is rising recently for ship building. The manufactured these FRP plates were combined by using the adhesive. Therefore, in this study Cleavage peel strength, Shear strength and fatigue limit of adhesive bonds by tensileloading were estimated. From test results, the strengths of FRP specimens made by the vacuum infusion method are higher than that of the hand lay-up method.

  • This study is to investigate the energy absorption characteristics of CFRP(Carbon-Fiber Reinforced Plastics) tubes on static and dynamic tests. Axial static compression tests have been carried out using the static testing machine(Shin-gang buckling testing machine) and dynamic compression tests have been utilized using an vertical crushing testing machine. When such tubes are subjected to crushing loads, the response is complex and depends on the interaction between the different mechanisms that could control the crushing process. The collapse characteristics and energy absorption have been examined for various tubes. Energy absorption of the tubes are increased as changes in the lay-up which may increase the modulus of tubes. The results have been varied significantly as a function of ply orientation and interlaminar number.

  • The application range of injection molded parts is expanding by the development of engineering plastics with good mechanical properties. Plastic products are specially used as automotive parts due to an excellent performance in the characteristics of a strength vs. weight. In this study, heating type of new method such as jet injection was applied to improve heat transfer coefficient is substituted for heating method of injection molding.

  • Poly(butylene terephthalate)(P5T) has long history as an engineering thermoplastic. PBT was first introduced commercially to the market place as an injection molding resin about 1969 by Celanese Plastics in the U.S.A. It is still widely used as a molding resin. Processing or forming methods for solid-phase deformation, such as stretching, hydrostatic extrusion. roller stretching, rolling, and so on can improve the mechanical properties effectively. • It is well known that poly(cyclohexylene dimethylene terephthalate) (PCT) is used as the engineering plastics with high melting temperature and fast crystallization rate compared with poly(butylene terephthalate)(PBT). However, poor thermal stability of PCT has limited its practical application due to the drastic decrease of molecular weight during the processing temperature. In order to improve the thermal stability of PCT homopolymer, the copolymer of PCT and PBT was synthesized and the thermal properties of the copolymer have been studied. P(CT/BT) copolymer was obtained by condensation polymerization of DMT, CHDM, and 1,4-butanediol. The chemical structure and composition of the copolymer was investigated by FTIR and NMR analysis. The thermal behavior of copolymer was studied using DSC and it was found that the crystallization-melting behavior of the copolymer was observed for the whole composition range. TGA analysis exhibited that P(CT/BT) copolymer is more stable at the initial stage of thermal decomposition compared with PCT and PBT homopolymers.

  • For improving the heat loss of a refrigerator around door gasket, it is very important to reduce the amount of rubber magnet used, of which thermal conductivity is much higher than the plastics, and enhancing the magnetic properties of rubber magnet itself is crucial for this. In the present study, therefore, a relationship between the optimum conditions of rubber magnet fabrication process and raw material compositions in the ferrite powder/CPE binder compounds was investigated for finding a way to enhance the magnetic properties of rubber magnet. Magnetic attraction forces of a sample rubber magnet was measured as function of distance, and thermal properties of the sample ferrite powder/CPE binder compound were analyzed with TG/DTA thermal analyzer. As a results, a rubber magnet strip with enhanced magnetic properties was expected to be fabricated, of which raw material compound was prepared by compounding with higher ferrite magnetic powder concentration.

  • Light weight superstructure is beneficial for bridges in remote areas and in emergency erection. In such weight sensitive applications, combination of fibre reinforced plastics (FRP) as material and box-girders as a structural system have great scope. This combination offers various options to tailor structure and its elements but this flexibility poses greater challenge in optimum design. In this paper a procedure is derived for a generalised optimum design of FRP box-girder bridges, using genetic algorithms (GA). The formulation of the optimum design problem in the form of objective function and constraints is presented. Size, configuration and topology optimization are done simultaneously. A few optimum design studies are carried out to check the performance of the developed procedure and to get trends in the optimum design which will be helpful to the new designers.

  • The design of a 7 degree of freedom motion capture device(MCD) has been presented. The newly designed MCD overcomes the shortcomings of the existing CADEN-7 exoskeleton robot by implementing various ergonomic design. To improve ease of operation, light-weight high-strength materials such as carbon pipes and engineering plastics were used to reduce weight of the MCD and arm-length adjustment mechanism was also added. The MCD showed consistent measurement results in designed experiments involving change of arm posture from nominal configuration to either elbow-side or arm-front configurations. Furthermore, captured motion in more natural tennis swing appeared to agree well with visual observations made.

  • As the $4^{th}$ industrial revolution is accelerating, IT convergence application technologies are attracting attention in various fields. In the manufacturing industry, Smart Factory technology, which is blended with IT technology, has been developed to solve the problem casued by the decrease of the labor force, and a monitoring server is required to remotely control the equipment or to inquire about the operation status of the factory. In this paper, we designed and implemented RESTful API for data sharing between factory equipment and monitoring server in Smart Factory. In order to verify the designed API, a testbed was operated for an actual plastics manufacturing plant. As a result, it was confirmed that the testbed can be operated normally in actual operating environment.
