To understand oxygenated fuel characteristics including spray penetration length and spray angle at a real engine ambient pressure condition, DME was injected into a high pressure chamber by a piezo injector common rail system. The piezo injector common rail system was able to apply steady injection pressure, rapid response, and accurate injection quantity. Injection and ambient pressure were varied to confirm a relation with spray form. Using a direct photographing technique, development process of DME spray was captured. DME injection quantity was enlarged linearly as increasing of the injection pressure. In the high pressure chamber, when the injection pressure was enlarged the penetration length and velocity were increased due to a big momentum of fuel particle at the same ambient pressure. When ambient pressure was increased, the DME spray penetration length and velocity were decreased since the high ambient density of nitrogen was acted as a resistance. Although the ambient pressure and injection pressure were varied, each case of spray angle was almost same since the spray angle had a connection of the injector nozzle geometry.

Pulse-mode performance evaluation is made for a set of monopropellant hydrazine thrusters producing $0.95 lb_{f}$ of nominal steady-state thrust at an inlet pressure of 350 psia. With a brief description on the hot-firing test matrix, a typical data obtained from pulse-mode firing is given directly showing the variational behavior of propellant supply pressure, vacuum condition, and thrust, in addition to the thermal response of the thruster. The performance features are successfully compared to the reference criteria of 1-lbf standard monopropellant rocket engine.

With the results of calculation for natural frequencies the reponses of forced coupled vibration of propulsion shafting system were investigated by the modal analysis method. For the forced vibration response analysis, the axial exciting forces, the axial damper/detuner, propeller exciting forces and damping coefficients were extensively considered. As the conclusion of this study, some items are cleared as follows.-The torsional vibration amplitudes are not influenced by the radial excitation forces of the crank shaft. -The axial vibration amplitudes are influenced by the tangential exciting forces as well as the radial exciting forces of the crank shaft. The increase of the amplitudes is observed in the speed range at the neighbourhood of any torsional critical speed. 1The closer the torsional and axial critical speed. the larger coupling effect becomes. -The axial exciting force of propeller is relatively strong comparing with axial exciting forces of cylinder gas pressure and oscillating inertia of reciprocating mechanism. Therefore, the following conclusions are obtained. -Torsional vibration calculation with the classical one dimensional model is still valid. -The influence of torsional excitation at each crank upon the axial vibration is improtant. especially in the neighbourhood of a torsional critical speed. That means that the calculation of axial vibration with the classical one dimensional model is inaccurate in most of cases.
In 3D gaming environment, it is important to simulate the physically plausible behaviors of gaming objects in real time. In particular, rigid body dynamics consists in the heart of most game physics. In this paper, we present a constraint-based rigid body simulation method using continuous collision detection as a collision detection method, and LCP formulation as a collision response method. The continuous collision detection method never misses any collisions and thus is able to accurately report the first time of collision as well as its associated colliding features. Moreover, since the number of colliding features is typically low, it also reduces the complexity in the LCP formulation.
An object of this study is to understand the correlation of injection characteristics and injector dimensions according to biodiesel mixture. The Injection characteristics of different types of common-rail injectors are the number of nozzle holes (5~8), jet cone angle ($146^{\circ}{\sim}153^{\circ}$), hydraulic flow rate (830~900 ml/min) injection quantity and response time. Prior to characteristic experiment, the reference injector has been selected in 6 candidates injectors under the investigation of injected quantity according to the biodiesel mixture so that injector type can be determined. The injector is used for the characteristic experiment which varied the various operating conditions including pressure 23 MPa, 80 MPa, 160 MPa, changing in injection duration 0.16 ms~1.2 ms and even mixture ratio. The result shows that the nozzle hole number and cone angle influence the injection quantity much more than nozzle hole diameter at low injection pressure and the nozzle hole diameter at high injection pressure, post injection duration.
Vibro-impacts in manual transmissions result due to several nonlinearities such as multi-staged clutch characteristics and gear backlashes. For the sake of understanding the torsional system, one specific manual transmission with front engine and front wheel drive configuration is investigated with a linear model under the several assumptions substituting the nonlinear factors. First, this system is examined with the mathematical approaches by expressing the governing equations to find out the torsional motions. Second, this system is analyzed using the linear model in order to understand its modal and frequency response characteristics using eigensolution method and the FRF(Frequency Responses Function) analysis. Third, with the given results from the eigensolutions, several mode shapes are investigated related to the torsional motion characteristics. Fourth, the system characteristics with the FRFs are studied with the basic approach, with which the several key parameters will be suggested based upon the results in the further studies.

Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) are developed to be operated with two kinds of power source (Diesel Engine and Electric Motor with Rechargeable High Voltage Battery Pack). HEVs for military vehicle require high reliability to provide stable powers under serious environment such as vibration and shock. To ensure normal operation of battery pack under serious environment such as vibration and shock, the high voltage battery pack needs to have appropriate dynamic characteristics. This paper presents a design procedure for high voltage battery pack with such characteristics. An isolator design is proposed to reduce vibration and shock. Associated random vibration and shock response of the high voltage battery pack are simulated under conditions suggested by MIL specifications. Its dynamic characteristics and vibration and shock responses are validated with experiments.

We study opening transient responses of a self-sustainable poppet valve, which is usually used for the main oxidizer shut-off valve of liquid rocket engines. In order to perform numerical analysis, a pneumatic supply system was simulated as an orifice with a diameter of 3.2 mm and the equations of motion of valve moving part were derived. For the validation of the study, a comparison of numerical predictions and experimental results has been done. As one of the practical applications of this study, the employment of an orifice in a high pneumatic pressure has been presented to control the valve opening time.

HC and CO emissions during the cold start contribute the majority of the total emissions in the legislated driving cycles. Therefore, in order to minimize the cold-start emissions, the fast light-off techniques have been developed and presented in the literature. One of the most encouraging strategies for reducing start-up emissions is to place the light-off catalyst, in addition to the main under-body catalyst, near the engine exhaust manifold. This study numerically consider three-dimensional, unsteady compressible reacting flow in the light-off and under body catalyst to examine the impact of a light-off catalyst on thermal response of the under body catalyst and tail pipe emission. The effect of flow distribution on the temperature distribution and emission performance have also been examined. The present results show that flow distribution has a great influence on the temperature distribution in the monolith at the early stage of warm-up process and the ultimate conversion efficiency of light-off catalyst is severly deteriorated when the space velocity is above $100,000hr^{-1}$.

Agricultural hydraulic robot which was reported in Part Ⅰ had been developed . The robot satisfied performance to intend before development. For actual use, however, it have been necessary to reduce manipulator weigh and to simplify construction of hydraulic control valve. Then, working stress of manipulator link and pressure fluctuation of hydraulic circuit were measured. Step and frequency response tests were done subject to amplitude of reference voltage of 0.1 , 0.3 , 0.5 and 1.0v. and delivery pressure of 3.5 and 5.0MPa. Working stress were about 25% comparing with fatigue strength, Thus, mass of manipulator might be reduce to 30 %. In hydraulic control system, virtual natural frequency of 6.5Hz is produced from the combination of drain passage area shortage of servovalve. Further , because of passage area shortage , working pressure at both side of cylinder was acted on. This phenomenon prevent utilize effectively engine power. Then, control valve for new model was p oposed.
