The aim of this study was to find the initial design value of turbine blade for electrical type turbocompound system generating 10 kW. Turbocompound is one of the waste heat recovery system applying to internal combustion engine to recover exhaust gas energy that was about 30 % of total input energy. To design the turbine blade, 1-D mean line flow model was used. Exhaust gas temperature, pressure, flow rate and turbine rotating speed was fixed as primary boundary conditions. The velocity triangles was defined and used to determine the rotor inlet radius and width, the rotor outlet radius at shroud and radius at hub, the rotor flow angles and the number of blades.

The thermodynamic characteristics of a combined cycle applied with a topping cycle such as a trilateral cycle at relatively high temperatures and a bottoming cycle such as an organic Rankine cycle at relatively low temperatures have been theoretically investigated. This is an electric generation system used to recover the waste heat of the exhaust gas from a diesel engine used for the propulsion of a large ship. As a result, when the boundary temperature between the topping and the bottoming cycles increased, the system efficiencies of energy and exergy were simultaneously maximized because the total exergy destruction rate (${\sum}\dot{E}_d$) and exergy loss ($\dot{E}_{out2}$) decreased, respectively. In the case of a marine diesel engine, the waste heat recovery electric generation system can be utilized for additional propulsion power, and the propulsion efficiency was found to be improved by an average of 9.17 % according to the engine load variation, as compared to the case with only the base engine. In this case, the specific fuel consumption and specific $CO_2$ emission of the diesel engine were reduced by an average of 8.4% and 8.37%, respectively.

In this paper, Gas engine was tested for the energy of synthesis gas. As excess air ratio increase 1, 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, 1.6 in 1800 rpm and synthesis gas, thermal efficiency generally decrease and power generation was 34 kWm at λ 1.4. And excess air ratio increase 1, 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4 in power generation 34 kWm, thermal efficiency generally increase 34.2%, 36.9%, 37.2%, 37.4%, 38.1%. Total efficiency through power generation consumes 38.7 kg/h of fuel at 30 kWe load and recovers 57.3% of waste heat by recovering 57.3 kW of waste heat through 32.1% power generation efficiency and heat recovery from cooling water and exhaust gas. The total efficiency was 85.8%.

As a kind of distributed energy system, the co-generation system based Diesel engine using after-treatment device was devised for its environmental friendly and economic qualities. It is utilized in that the electric power is produced by the generator connected to the Diesel engine, and waste heat is recovered from both the exhaust gases and the engine itself by the finned tube and shell & tube heat exchangers. An after-treatment device composed ceramic heater and DOC(Diesel Oxidation Catalyst) is installed at the engine outlet in order to completely reignite the unburned fuel from the Diesel engine. In this study, mutual relation of each experimental condition was derived through minimum number of experiment using Taguchi Design and ANOVA recently used in the various fields. It is found that the total efficiency (thermal efficiency plus electric power generation efficiency) of this system reaches maximum 94.4% which is approximately higher than that of the typical diesel engine exhaust heat recovery system.

The IMO (International Maritime Organization) is discussing the improvement of energy ef iciency of ships in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from ships. Currently, by applying an ORC power generation system using waste heat generated from ships, high energy conversion efficiency can be expected from ships. This technology uses an organic medium based on Freon or hydrocarbons as the working fluid, which evaporates at a lower temperature range than water. Through this, it is possible to generate steam (gas) and generate power at a low and low temperature relatively. In this study, the analysis of heat flow between the refrigerant and waste heat in the ORC power generation system, which is an organic Rankine cycle, is analyzed using 3D simulation techniques to determine the temperature change, velocity change, pressure change, and mass change of the fluid flowing of the WHRU (Waste Heat Recovery Unit) inside and the outside the structure. The purpose of this study is to analyze how the mass change affects the structure, and this study analyzed the heat transfer of the heat exchanger from the refrigerant and the exhaust gas of the ship's main engine in the ORC power generation system using this technique.

In this study, it shows the efficiency of each refrigerant through simulation method for ORC (Organic Rankine Cycle) power generation that converts waste heat discarded by ship exhaust into electricity for the purpose of reducing CO2 emission and increasing ship waste heat recovery. by Simulation was performed with waste heat from the exhaust gas which is relatively high temperature and cooling sea water which is relatively low temperature from ships. As a result of the sea water cooling ORC power generating system, efficiency of the working fluid with R717 is highest as a 2.86 % and the next working fluid is R152a, R134a, R143a and R125a.

Internal combustion engines typically expel 30%-40% of the energy supplied by fuel to the environment through their exhaust system. Therefore, further significant improvements in the thermal efficiency of IC engines are possible by recovering the waste heat from the engine exhaust gas. With this fact in mind, a numerical simulation was carried out to investigate the potential of using thermoelectric generation with an internal combustion engine for waste heat recovery. Physical parameters such as the exhaust temperature and mass flow rate were evaluated in the exhaust system, and the optimum location for inserting a thermoelectric generator (TEG) into the system was determined. The TEG will be located in the exhaust system and will use the energy flow between the warmer exhaust gas and the external environment. The optimum position of the temperature distribution and the TEG performance were predicted through numerical analysis. The experimental results obtained showed that the power output significantly increases with the temperature difference between the cold and hot sides of the TEG.

ORC system was designed and constructed for utilizing the heat of the exhaust gas and coolant released from the gas engine which was modified to use natural gas as a fuel. In this paper the components of the ORC system were designed and manufactured based on measured data of the gas engine. The components are composed of two plate heat exchanger, the 5kW-class expander and multi stage centrifugal pump. The thermodynamic performance of the ORC system was analyzed by using the electric heater. Also, the developed ORC system was implemented to modified natural gas engine. Two gas engines were used to supply heat to the ORC system. As a result of test bench, when the heat source temperature is $110^{\circ}C$ expander shaft power, the pressure ratio and cycle efficiency is 5.22kW, 7.41, 9.09%. As a result of field test, when the heat source temperature is $86^{\circ}C$ expander shaft power, the pressure ratio and cycle efficiency is 2kW, 3.75, 6.45%.
