축차근사법에 의한 박용디이젤 기관축계 비틀림 진동계산의 전산프로그램 개발에 관한 연구 (Developing a Computer Program for the Tersional Vibration Analysis of the Marine Diesel Engine Shafting)

  • In the earlier days, when the diesel engine was used for ship propulsion, its shaft had often been broken by uncertain causes. Bauer suggested, for the first time in 1900, that it resulted from the torsional vibration of the shaft system. From 1901 to 1902, Gumbel and Frahm found out that shaft failures were caused by the resonance of the shaft system in critical speed. Since that time, valuable theories, empirical formulae and methods of vibration analysis were introduced by many investigators such as Geiger, Holzer, Lewis, Carter, Porter, Constant, Timoshenko, Dorey, Den Hartog, Tuplin, Ker Wilson, Bradbury etc. But, as the calculation of the damping energy involves very complicated and uncertain factors, the estimated amplitude of the torsional vibration is incorrect and uncertain. Besides, as high-powered engines have been installed on large vessels or special vessels and exciting force has been increased, new problems of the torsional vibration have continuously occurred. Although we can calculate the approximate natural frequencies or estimate their amplitude and additional stress in the design stage, through the above mentioned studies, the results of the calculations are unsatisfactory, and so much time is needed to carry out the calculation by hand. The authors have developed a computer program to calculate its natural frequencies, the amplitudes and additional stresses of the torsional vibration in the marine diesel engine shafting. In developing the computer program, the authors have paid the special attention to the calculation of the damping energy. To verify the reliability of the developed computer program, the torsional vibration of several propulsion shaftings which are driven by the diesel engine has been analyzed. The results calculted by the authors' computer program show good agreements with those of the actual measurements and are better than the results of engine maker's calculation.

접수탱크구조의 진동해석 (Vibration Analysis of a Water Tank Structures)

  • A liquid storage rectangular tank structures are used in many fields of civil, mechanical and marine engineering. Especially, Ship structures have many tanks in contact with inner or outer fluid, like ballast, fuel and cargo tanks. Fatigue damages are sometimes observed in these tanks which seem to be caused by resonance with exciting force of engine and propeller. Vibration characteristics of these thin walled tanks in contact with fluid near engine propeller are strongly affected by added mass of containing fluid. Therefore it is essentially important to estimate the added mass effect to predict vibration of the tank structures. Many authors have studied vibration of cylindrical and rectangular tanks structures containing fluid. Few research on dynamic interaction among tank walls through fluid are reported in the vibration of rectangular tanks recently. In case of rectangular tanks, structural coupling between adjacent panels and effect of vibration modes of multiple panels on added mass have to be considered. In the present paper, coupling effect between panels of tank structure on added mass of containing fluid, the effect of structural constraint between panels on each vibration mode for fluid region have investigated numerically and experimentally.

In the previous report, A numerical tool of vibration analysis of a 3-dimensional tank is developed by using finite element method for plates and boundary element method for fluid region. In this paper, the coupling effect between panels of a tank on added mass of containing fluid, the effect of structural constraint between panels on each vibration mode for fluid region and mode characteristics in accordance with changing breadth of the plates are investigated numerically and discussed.

A Study on the Body Attachment Stiffness for the Road Noise

  • The ride and noise characteristics of a vehicle are significantly affected by the vibration transferred to the body through the chassis mounting points in the engine and suspension. It is known that body attachment stiffness is an important factor of idle noise and road noise for NVH performance improvement. The body attachment stiffness serves as a route design aimed at isolating the vibration generated inside the car due to the exciting force of the engine or road. The test result of the body attachment stiffness is shown in the FRF curve data; the stiffness level and sensitive frequency band are recorded by the data distribution. The stiffness data is used for analyzing the parts that fail to meet the target stiffness at a pertinent frequency band. The analysis shows that the target frequency band is between 200 and 500 Hz. As a result of the comparison in a mounted suspension, the analysis data is comparable to the test data. From these results, there is a general agreement between the predicted and measured responses. This procedure makes it possible to find the weak points before a proto car is produced, and to suggest proper design guidelines in order to improve the stiffness of the body structure.

  • According to the developments of automobile industry, a technology has been studied in a point of view of environment, which is to increase fuel consumption rate. Especially it is well known that a weight reduction is one of the main technologies to increase the fuel consumption rate and, also to decrease the cost of manufacturing. This paper presents the method for reducing weight of bracket, which connects air conditioner compressor to engine, based on dynamic stress analysis and engineer's intuition for optimal design.

  • The Substructure Synthesis means the technology to predict the dynamic properties of an assembly from the properties of its components, or to predict the effect of a modification on a structure. The FRF Based Substructuring method is a kind of the Substructure Synthesis and very useful to predict the efficiency of the product in the early stage of development. Especially, the Hybrid FBS method is very useful to predict the vehicle NVH characteristics after modifying some components of the vehicle. Target components can be established on the basis of test models and FE models of the prototype constructed in the early stage of development. In this study, the Hybrid FBS method was applied to vehicle subframe and car-body in order to reduce vehicle interior noise induced by engine exciting force.

  • In ship structure, many parts are in contact with inner or outer fluid as stern, ballast and oil tanks. Fatigue damages are sometimes observed in these tanks which seem to be caused by resonance with exciting force of engine and propeller. Vibration characteristics of these tanks in contact with fluid are significantly affected by fluid coupling effect. Therefore it is important to exactly predict vibration characteristics of tank structure. In order to estimate the vibration characteristics, the fluid-structure interaction(FSI) problem should be solved precisely. But it is difficult to estimate exactly the magnitude of the fluid coupling effect because it has some problems such as a fluid-structure interaction, influence by the free surface, vibration modes of structural panels and depth of water. In this paper, with fluid coupling effect, the effect of structural constraint between panels on the vibration characteristics are investigated numerically and discussed.

점성-스프링 댐퍼 최적화 설계를 이용한 엔진 증속지연 특성을 갖는 추진축계 비틀림진동 제어 (Control of torsional vibration for propulsion shafting with delayed engine acceleration by optimum design of a viscous-spring damper)

  • 추진효율 향상을 위해 개발된 초장행정 엔진은 저속에서도 큰 출력을 낼 수 있는 장점이 있는 반면에 이전에 비해 비틀림진동의 기진력은 상당히 증가하였다. 따라서 이전에는 튜닝 휠 또는 플라이휠만으로도 제어가 가능하였던 선박들도 연료절약형 초장행정 엔진이 탑재되는 경우에는 비틀림진동 댐퍼를 적용해야만 제어가 가능하다. 본 논문에서는 비틀림진동 제어를 위해 적용된 점성-스프링 댐퍼의 동특성을 확인하고 해당 축계에 최적 동특성을 갖는 점성-스프링 댐퍼를 설계하여 비틀림진동 특성을 검토하였다. 또한, 일부 엔진증속 지연현상을 지닐 우려가 있는 선박의 경우에는 대상축계의 진동 특성을 고려하여 최적댐퍼 설계이론에 따라 선정된 파라미터를 적절히 조정함으로써 과도한 피로누적에 따른 축 절손현상을 방지할 수 있는 축계 비틀림진동 제어 방안을 제시하였다.

고점도 실리콘오일 적용 점성댐퍼 동특성을 고려한 추진축계 최적 설계 (Optimum design of propulsion shafting system considering characteristics of a viscous damper applied with high-viscosity silicon oil)

  • 최근 개발된 선박용 주기관은 추진효율 향상과 연료소비율 저감기술이 요구됨에 따라 과거에 비해 높은 비틀림진동 기진력 특성을 갖고 있다. 따라서 이를 제어하기 위해 기본적으로 엔진 선단에 점성 댐퍼나 점성-스프링댐퍼를 장착한다. 점성댐퍼의 경우 댐퍼 내부에 채워진 실리콘 오일이 탄성적인 연결이 없다고 가정하고 댐퍼설계를 하여 왔으나 고점도 실리콘 오일은 높은 점도에 따른 비틀림 강성이 존재할 뿐만 아니라 작동온도와 주파수에 따라 비선형적인 동특성을 갖는다. 본 논문에서는 고점도 실리콘 오일이 적용된 점성댐퍼의 동특성을 확인하고 해당 댐퍼가 장착된 축계의 비틀림진동 특성을 검토하였다. 이를 위해 점성댐퍼의 최적 동특성을 이론적으로 해석하는 방법을 검토하였고, 고점도 실리콘 오일로 채워진 점성댐퍼로 해당축계의 비틀림진동 제어를 하는 경우 댐퍼 작동온도 및 경년변화를 고려한 추진축계 최적 설계 방안에 대해서 검토하였다.
