Analysis of the Engagement Effects of DIRCM against a Man Portable Air Defense System (휴대용대공유도탄에 대응하는 지향성적외선방해장비의 교전효과 분석)

  • A MANPADS(Man Portable Air Defense System), which tracks infrared energy, is light enough for individuals to carry and can against to a variety of aircraft, making it widely deployed around the world, posing a major threat to aircraft. A flare has been developed as an IRCM(Infrared Countermeasures) that protects the life of friendly aircraft and combatants by deceiving such guided missiles. However, DIRCM, which can overcome the problems of existing IRCM, is being developed mainly in some developed countries, and the need for it has been increasing gradually. This paper modeled first generation IR seeker of AM modulation method, the second generation IR seeker of FM modulation method, and the third generation IR seeker of pulse modulation method among various MANPADS, and modeled the scattering light phenomenon in the seeker when laser beams are investigated in DIRCM. Using this, jamming simulations were performed in various engagement environments of the MANPADS and aircraft equipped with DIRCM, and the miss distance of the guided missiles and aircraft were analyzed. Simulation results show that DIRCM, which irradiates a modulated laser beam with one jamming code, deceives both first, second and third generation MANPADS at 1km and 2km of engagement distance. In particular, the survival rate of aircraft equipped with DIRCM increased when the distance of engagement increased from 1km to 2km, and the survival rate was at least 99% at 2km of engagement distance.

Recognizing User Engagement and Intentions based on the Annotations of an Interaction Video (상호작용 영상 주석 기반 사용자 참여도 및 의도 인식)

  • A pattern classifier-based approach for recognizing internal states of human participants in interactions is presented along with its experimental results. The approach includes a step for collecting video recordings of human-human interactions or humanrobot interactions and subsequently analyzing the videos based on human coded annotations. The annotation includes social signals directly observed in the video recordings and the internal states of human participants indirectly inferred from those observed social signals. Then, a pattern classifier is trained using the annotation data, and tested. In our experiments on human-robot interaction, 7 video recordings were collected and annotated with 20 social signals and 7 internal states. Several experiments were performed to obtain an 84.83% recall rate for interaction engagement, 93% for concentration intention, and 81% for task comprehension level using a C4.5 based decision tree classifier.

Is an Influencer's Follower Count Just a Number? The Effect of Influencer's Number of Followers on Moroccan Consumer Behavior in Electronic Trade and Distribution Science: Dyadic Approach

  • Purpose: This study aims to explore the effect of an influencer's follower count on the attitudes and purchase intentions of Moroccan consumers on the Instagram platform, which has become one of the most utilized platforms in electronic trade and distribution science. Research Design and Methodology: To achieve this objective, we adopted a qualitative methodology that allows for a deeper understanding of our research problem through the perceptions and experiences of key stakeholders in this context. We conducted a comparative analysis of the views held by influencers and consumers through semi-structured interviews. Results: Our findings reveal significant divergences in the perceived effect of follower count on attitudes and purchase intentions. While some participants affirm a positive effect, viewing the influencer's follower count as a reflection of their popularity and credibility, others reference the theory of cultural conformism typical of collectivist societies like Morocco, suggesting that follower count influences behavior due to social pressures. Additionally, several respondents emphasize the importance of engagement rates, particularly highlighting the profiles of micro-influencers and the quality of the content published. Conclusions : This study contributes to a deeper understanding of influencer marketing within a Moroccan context, offering valuable insights into how follower count and engagement interact to shape consumer perceptions and behaviors.

Roles of Illness Attributions and Cultural Views of Cancer in Determining Participation in Cancer-Smart Lifestyle among Chinese and Western Youth in Australia

  • Background: The study investigated the influence of culturally-based health beliefs on engagement in healthy lifestyle behaviour. Specifically, the study compared levels of engagement between Western and Chinese youth in Australia and assessed the extent to which culture-specific attributions about the causes of illness, and health beliefs, predict engagement in healthy lifestyle behaviour. Materials and Methods: Ninety-four Western and 95 Chinese (N=189; Mean Age=20.8 years, SD=3 years) young adults completed an online questionnaire. Predictor variables were cultural health beliefs measured by the Chinese Cultural Views on Health and Illness scale (CCVH, Liang et al., 2008), and illness attributions beliefs measured by the Cause of Illness Questionnaire (CIQ, Armstrong and Swartzman, 1999). Outcomes variables were levels of engagement in healthy lifestyle behaviour. Results: Results indicated that Chinese participants have a significantly lower exercising rate and healthy dietary habits compared to the Western sample. Moreover, Chinese participants were found to believe more strongly than Westerners that cancer was associated with factors measured by the Traditional-Chinese-Model (TCM). Finally, the observed relationship between cultural health beliefs and physical inactivity was mediated by attributions of illness, in particular to the supernatural subscale, with the Sobel Test showing a significant mediation (z=-2.63, p=0.004). Conclusions: Mainstream approaches to encourage healthy lifestyles are unlikely to be effective when educating Chinese youth. Instead, health promotion programs should attempt to address the illness attribution beliefs and educate Chinese youth about the role of diet and exercise in prevention of diseases such as cancer.

The Factors (Job Burnout, Job Engagement, the Workplace Safety) Influencing Employees' Job Satisfaction in School Food Service Operations (학교급식 조리종사자의 직무 만족도에 영향을 미치는 직무 소진, 직무 관여 및 조리작업안전에 대한 인식)

  • The study was conducted to investigate the influences of food service employees' job burnout, job engagement, and workplace safety perception on their job satisfaction. A survey was administered on 589 school food service employees in Gyeongbuk from December 5, 2005 to February 18, 2006. The final response rate was 71% (N= 416); the data were analyzed using SPSS Windows (ver. 12.0). A majority of the respondents were females (99.0%) and 40 years old or older (75.3%); 84% were temporary contact-based or irregular workers. Among the job burnout dimensions, exhaustion ($2.98{\pm}0.59$) was rated higher than cynicism ($2.33{\pm}0.54$), while professional efficacy level ($3.61{\pm}0.47$) was relatively high. In terms of job engagement, the means of absorption ($3.67{\pm}0.49$) and dedication ($3.65{\pm}0.52$) were higher than that of vigor ($3.22{\pm}0.46$). A systematic environmental level ($3.15{\pm}0.58$) was lower than safety knowledge level ($3.63{\pm}0.49$) among the workplace safety statistics, whereas the anxiety level ($3.25{\pm}0.74$) was relatively high. The food service staff were more satisfied with 'supervisors' and 'co-workers' than with 'pay' and 'promotion'. A hierarchial regression analysis revealed that dedication, absorption, systematic environment, and safety knowledge were significant factors to increase job satisfaction and exhaustion which significantly decreased their job satisfaction.

  • Purpose: The hotel industry needs a leader who can actively demonstrate leadership to respond to and accept changes in the organization in a highly competitive and fast-changing environment. Therefore, the role of leaders who instill clear vision and goals of the organization in their members, listen to their opinions, and empathize is paramount. Leaders should encourage successful organizational activities based on active participation by employees and create the best environment for working with a sense of mission and responsibility. This study aims to identify the relationship between empathy leadership and job engagement as a result variable of team cohesion in the hotel culinary department and conduct empirical studies on the role of empathy leadership and job engagement. Research design, data, and methodology: The data were collected from employees who work in culinary department at a five-star franchise hotel located in the Seoul metropolitan area. Because it is difficult to conduct a survey through face-to-face contact with employees due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the online survey was conducted from February 1 to February 28, 2020. A total of 330 questionnaires through online were distributed and 268 employees completed the survey, yielding a response rate of 81%. Of the 268 returned responses, 27 responses were not usable due to missing information. Thus, a total of 241 responses were used for analysis. Results: The study results are as follows. First, it has been shown that the empathy leadership of culinary department in hotel companies has a significant positive impact on the job engagement. Second, it has been shown that job engagement has a significant positive effect on members' team cohesiveness. Third, empathy leadership of hotel companies' culinary department has a significant positive impact on members' team cohesiveness. Fourth, job engagement has a significant positive (+) mediating effect in the relationship between empathy leadership and team cohesiveness in culinary department. Conclusion: This study supports the theory that an emotional and empathic leader's behavior or ability can change the effectiveness or atmosphere of a rapidly changing hotel culinary team organization by presenting a research model on the effect of empathic leadership on job engagement and team cohesiveness. And hotel chefs should be more aware of the importance of empathic leadership and make them a human resource of the organization through formal and informal communication with culinary employees.

Modeling and Analysis of Cooperative Engagements with Manned-Unmanned Ground Combat Systems (무인 지상 전투 체계의 협동 교전 모델링 및 분석)

  • Analysis of combat effectiveness is required to consider the concept of tactical cooperative engagement between manned-unmanned weapon systems, in order to predict the required operational capabilities of future weapon systems that meets the concept of 'effect-based synchronized operations.' However, analytical methods such as mathematical and statistical models make it difficult to analyze the effects of complex systems under nonlinear warfare. In this paper, we propose a combat simulation model that can simulate the concept of cooperative engagement between manned-unmanned combat entities based on wireless communications. First, we model unmanned combat entities, e.g., unmanned ground vehicles and drones, and manned combat entities, e.g., combatants and artillery, considering the capabilities required by the future ground system. We also simulate tactical behavior in which all entities perform their mission while sharing battlefield situation information through wireless communications. Finally we explore the feasibility of the proposed model by analyzing combat effectiveness such as target acquisition rate, remote control success rate, reconnaissance lead time, survival rate, and enemy's loss rate under a small-unit armor reconnaissance scenario. The proposed model is expected to be used in war-game combat experiments as well as analysis of the effects of manned-unmanned ground weapons.

  • An approximate target adaptive guidance algorithm(TAG) is proposed on the basis of the assumption that angular acceleration of missile to target line-of-sight and start time for TAG can be obtained by IR seeker. The algorithm does not use any target state estimator. Instead, it avoids the problem of determining target attitude by using the observation that the missile using LOS rate guidance is nearly on the collision course in the later point of engagement. Computer simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can effectively perform target adaptive guidance.

Theories, Strategies and Elements of Gamified MOOCs: A Systematic Literature Review

  • A few years before, MOOCs appeared and developed at a rapid pace. Various MOOC methods, theories, strategies, elements, and techniques were used to improve distance education. In their development, their weaknesses like dropout, low participation, low completion rate, low engagement, and others have emerged that are addressed by recent studies including that of gamified and adaptive gamified MOOCs. This article presents the most important theories, strategies, and elements used in gamification and their usefulness and contribution to MOOCs, with the ultimate goal of proving rich information to researchers, application designers, and practitioners of gamified and adaptive gamified MOOCs.

The Effect of Incentives on Internet Surveys: Response Rate Changes After the Introduction of Incentives

  • Incentives are often included in survey design because they are known to improve response rates, at least moderately. This paper describes the changes in the response rates when incentives were introduced into a longitudinal survey. The National Survey of Student Engagement was conducted annually at Indiana University Bloomington from 2000 through 2012. In 2010, incentives were introduced in an attempt to reverse the declining response rates. The incentives performed as expected, raising the AAPOR Response Rate 3 from 24% in 2009 to 36% in 2010. From 2010 through 2012, different types of incentives were tried but the response rates did not change substantially. The results from the changes in incentives can help survey practitioners decide the number and types of incentives that might be used effectively to increase response rates.
