  • Energy foundations and other thermo-active ground structure, energy wells, energy slab, and pavement heating and cooling represent an innovative technology that contributes to environmental protection and provides substantial long-term cost savings and minimized maintenance. This paper focuses on earth-contact concrete elements that are already required for structural reasons, but which simultaneously work as heat exchangers. Pipes, energy slabs, filled with a heat carrier fluid are installed under conventional structural elements, forming the primary circuit of a geothermal energy system. The natural ground temperature is used as a heat source in winter and heat sink in summer season. The system represented very high heating and cooling performance due to the stability of EWT from energy slab. Maximum heat pump unit COP and system COP were 4.9 and 4.3.

  • The PCS system, which consists of precast concrete column and steel beam, has been under development. Experimental test has been carried out to investigate the structural performance of the system under earthquake. Two types of test specimens of beam-column joints are designed in order to compare the performances. One is the system with reinforced concrete slab and the other is without slab. It is found that the system with slab could satisfy all of the requirements from ACI Criteria such as strength, stiffness degradation and energy dissipation capacity except initial stiffness. It is also investigated that the stiffness of the joint is belong to rigid joint type according to Bjorhovde criterion. And it is observed that the partial-composite system between beam and slab is more effective than full-composite system in the respect of the energy dissipation capacity of the system.

Generation of Thermoelastic Waves by Irradiating a Metal Slab with a Line-Focused Laser Pulse

  • A 2D finite-element numerical simulation has been developed to investigate the generation of ultrasonic waves in a homogeneous isotropic elastic slab under a line-focused laser irradiation. Discussing the physical processes involved in the thermoelastic phenomena, we describe a model for the pulsed laser generation of ultrasound in a metal slab. Addressing an analytic method, on the basis of an integral transform technique, for obtaining the solutions of the elastodynamic equation, we outline a finite element method for a numerical simulation of an ultrasonic wave propagation. We present the numerical results for the displacements and the stresses generated by a line-focused laser pulse on the surface of a stainless steel slab.

  • This study is aimed to investigate the effect of load and deflection on steel fiber reinforced concrete slab. Slabs were made with Hooked and Straight types steel fiber and compared a change of steel fiber contents and fiber types. Test were carried out to evaluate he first crack load, maximum load and deflection of slab. At the result, the first crack load, maximum load and energy absorption capacity were increased remarkably as steel fiber contents wee increased. And we found that the deflection of slab at same load ere decreased as steel fiber contents were increased, too. As the aspect ration was increased, the first crack load, maximum load and energy absorption capacity were increased.

Intracavity frequency doubling of a slab Nd:YAG laser pumped by high power diode laser array

  • A high power diode-array-pumped slab Nd:YAG laser is described. The resonator consists of three mirrors in folded geometry. The laser is operated in acousto-optic Q-switching mode and intracavity frequency doubling is tried. We demonstrate that the laser exhibits frequency doubling efficiency of ∼60% with a type I LBO crystal.

척산천의 다기능 어도의 구조 해석 (Structural Analysis of Multipurpose Fishway in Chuksan River)

  • In this study, the validity and applicability of the multipurpose fishway which has been constructed for the upstream migration of fish at Chuksan river in Uljin is assessed and analyzed by a commercial software. The upper slab types of fishway in this investigation are reinforced concrete slab (S1 type) and reinforced concrete slab with steel plate (S2 type). The three different sizes of subway passage ($0.8m{\times}0.1m$, $0.8m{\times}0.2m$, $0.8 m{\times}0.3m$) and velocities (0.6 m/s, 1.2 m/s, 1.8 m/s) of Chuksan fishway was investigated and compared for the Chuksan in government design code. The analysis showed that the maximum stress and bending moment of S1 type decreased 1~21 % and 12~27 % compared to the Chuksan in government design code, respectively. Also, the maximum stress of and bending moment of S2 type decreased 11~32 % and 27~39 %. From the numerical analysis, it was found that the S2 type was greatly effective and the subway passage size of $0.8m{\times}0.2m$ was most safe. This result can be utilized to be the basic data for design of the Multipurpose fishway.

SFRHPC interior beam-column-slab joints under reverse cyclic loading

  • Beam-column joints are highly vulnerable locations which are to be designed for high ductility in order to take care of unexpected lateral forces such as wind and earthquake. Previous investigations reveal that the addition of steel fibres to concrete improves its ductility significantly. Also, due to presence of slab the strength and ductility of the beam increases considerably and ignoring the effect of slab can lead to underestimation of beam capacity and defiance of strong column weak beam concept. The influence of addition of steel fibres on the strength and behaviour of steel fibre reinforced high performance concrete (SFRHPC) interior beam-column-slab joints was investigated experimentally. The specimens were subjected to reverse cyclic loading. The variable considered was the volume fraction of crimped steel fibres i.e., 0%, 0.5% and 1.0%. The results show that the addition of steel fibres improves the first crack load, strength, ductility, energy absorption capacity and initial stiffness of the beam.

  • In this study, numerical analysis is performed to investigate the sound radiation characteristics of an apartment house according to the type of the slab system. In order to satisfy the boundary condition of the apartment house, the whole floor is modelled with FEM model for three different structural system: wall, RC, flat slab system. From the analytical results, it Is shown that heavy weight floor impact noise of wail type slab is larger than that of the other slab systems and the noise radiated from the wall have great effect on the sound pressure level. The results also show that the vibration energy of RC or flat slab system is widely distributed over the whole slab, which is main reason that the noise induced by the slab systems is reduced in comparison with wail slab system.

  • The green building is one of biggest factors to go the goal of energy saving and environmental conservation, "reduction of energy consumption, friendly energy technology, recycling of resource, and environmental pollution reduction technology. The purpose of these green buildings realized by the energy-saving technology such as the thermal bridge breaker(or thermal bridge block). Thermal bridges are localized elements that penetrate insulated portions of building envelope that results in heat loss. The purpose of this paper is to describe the technical interactions for patents of a thermal bridge breaker(TTB) used in green building practices, and be subject to investigation to TTB in the leading countries, that is, United State, Europe Union, Japan, and Korea. As a result, there are four TTB categories(roof, wall-slab connection, opening, footing) in house or building. The TTB categories is remarkable technology that is apparatus in slab-wall joints and sealing element of opening frame in walls.
