  • As carbon-free has been getting interest, renewable energy sources have been increasing. However, renewable energy is intermittent and variable so it is difficult to predict the produced electrical energy from a renewable energy source. In this study, digital-twin concept is applied to solve difficulties in predicting electrical energy from a renewable energy source. Considering that rotation of wind turbine has high correlation with produced electrical energy, a model which simulates rotation in the drivetrain of a wind turbine is developed. The base of a drivetrain simulation model is set with well-known state equation in mechanical engineering, which simulates the rotating system. Simulation based machine learning is conducted to get unknown parameters which are not provided by manufacturer. The simulation is repeated and parameters in simulation model are corrected after each simulation by optimization algorithm. The trained simulation model is validated with 27 real wind turbine operation data set. The simulation model shows 4.41% error in average compared to real wind turbine operation data set. Finally, it is assessed that the drivetrain simulation model represents the real wind turbine drivetrain system well. It is expected that wind-energy-prediction accuracy would be improved as wind turbine digital twin including the developed drivetrain simulation model is applied.

In this study, elements that affect the energy consumption of office building are identified and energy saving performance of the alternative air conditioning system is analyzed. As a result, applied to earn and suggest basic data for energy saving measures. In this study, EnergyPlus simulation program was used to evaluate the energy load when alternative Low Energy Cooling Systems are applied to the model building. The reliability of simulation program is verified by comparing actual energy load from operation data of building management office and predicted energy load using simulation program. For Low Energy Cooling System application which considers the purpose and characteristics of the building, reasonable and energy-saving air conditioning method obtained by analyzing energy consumption elements for each expected air conditioning methods is used to deduct result of this study.

  • The national goal of wind energy dissemination has to be determined rationally based on technically available wind resource potential. For an accurate and scientific estimation of wind resource potential, a wind map is requisite. This paper introduces the national wind map of Korea established by numerical wind simulation. Therefore, quantification of national wind resource potential is now possible and is anticipating to be used as a core index for policy and strategy building of wind energy dissemination and technology development.

  • Purpose: Because of the growing concern over fossil fuel use and increasing demand for greenhouse gas emission reduction since the 1990s, the building energy analysis field has produced various types of methods, which are being applied more often and broadly than ever. A lot of research products have been actively proposed in the area of the building energy simulation for over 50 years around the world. However, in the last 20 years, there have been only a few research cases where the trend of building energy analysis is examined, estimated or compared. This research aims to investigate a trend of the building energy analysis by focusing on methodology and characteristics of each method. Method: The research papers addressing the building energy analysis are classified into two types of method: engineering analysis and algorithm estimation. Especially, EPG(Energy Performance Gap), which is the limit both for the existing engineering method and the single algorithm-based estimation method, results from comparing data of two different levels- in other words, real time data and simulation data. Result: When one or more ensemble algorithms are used, more accurate estimations of energy consumption and performance are produced, and thereby improving the problem of energy performance gap.

  • Operation and control system has been installed and tested to use energy storage system(ESS) for frequency regulation at 4MW class of ESS demonstration facility installed at Jeju island, Korea in 2013. Simulation tests were performed by programing language C# for power system of Jeju island to develop control algorithm. Site simulation tests were performed in control system itself without connecting power system and energy storage system. Control algorithm was coded, modified and tested to load to controller and communication system and human-machine interface were developed and tested in the process of simulation tests. After similar results to that of simulation tests by programing language were obtained, power system and energy storage system demonstration facility were connected to control system by communication system. Energy storage system for frequency regulation was tested for actual frequency and simulation frequency. The site tests showed the similar results to that of simulation tests and the control systems is possible to be operated for frequency regulation. Faster response of energy storage system for frequency regulation, less costs and less capacity of energy storage systems which cover for frequency regulation of power plants. It is expected that more studies for time-reduction and time-delay elements can make less capacity of energy storage system cover more role of frequency regulation of power plants.

  • The importance of architecture design focused on eco-friendly and low energy continues to grow. In addition, the energy conservation design is required from a micro-perspective. Energy simulations based on BIM have attracted recent attention because of the high efficiency. On the other hand, the parameters concerned with microscopic energy are not included in BIM data. This study examined the necessity of the sensor-light parameter using a simulation of illuminance sensor light. In this study, illuminance sensors were installed into the BIM data and the operating schedule data of sensor light were generated by an illuminance simulation. The schedule data was then inputted into the simulation application, and the reduction ratio of power consumption was verified by the simulation. According to research, the power consumption and thermal load decreased by more than 20 %. Therefore, it is necessary to supplement the sensor-light parameter into BIM data for microscopic energy conservation design. This study was not confined to checking whether sensor-light parameter is necessary or not, but to ascertaining the necessary of applying a microscopic factor to generate BIM data.

  • In the DC traction system, a large load current of electric railcar leads to a voltage drop when a vehicle starts, and the regenerative power generated by brake system increases the catenary voltage. To minimize the voltage fluctuation during the train operation and make use of the regenerative power, several types of energy storage systems are being studied. The energy storage system that is being recently introduced consists of the supercapacitors for energy storage and the bi-direction DC/DC converter for charge/discharge control. The efficiency of the energy storage system depends on the train operation pattern. In this paper, the operation efficiency of the energy storage system was quantitatively analyzed via simulation study taking consideration of the train operation patterns. The simulation was conducted changing the headway of trains with the energy storage system that uses the bi-direction DC/DC converter and supercapacitor. The simulation results showed that the operation efficiency of the energy storage system increases as the headway increase.

  • Apartment Housing has been increasing steadily, particularly our current super high-rise apartment houses that represent the culture has become a trend in Korea. These super high-rise apartment houses' curtain wall system increases heating and cooling loads, it is expected to vary by each unit's thermal properties. In this study, measured indoor environment and energy simulation results were compared to actual energy consumption. As a result, the various factors that affect heating and cooling loads, such as direction, plan type and glazing area, influence each unit's load characteristic. In particular, according to the electricity costs savings behavior, the occupant's thermal discomfort is expected to be large in summer. Therefore, to reduce heating and cooling load for each unit requires a reasonable plan.

  • For reasons such as global warming, depletion of fossil fuels and the danger of nuclear energy the research and development of renewable energy is actively underway. Wind energy has advantages over another renewable energy in terms of location requirements, energy efficiency and reliability. Nowadays the research and development area is expanded to offshore because it can supply more wind reliability and free from noise pollution. In this study, the monopile offshore wind turbine transportation and installation (T&I) process are investigated. In addition, the schedule and cost for the process are estimated by discrete event simulation. For the simulation, simulation models for various means of T&I are developed. The optimum T&I execution plan with shortest duration and lowest cost can be found by using different mission start day and T&I means.
