  • Fuel management simulation have been performed for CANFLEX-0.9% RU fuel in the CANDU 6 reactor. In this study, the bi-directional 4-bundle shift fuelling scheme was assumed The lattice cell and time-average calculation were carried out. The refuelling simulation calculations were performed for 600 full power days. Time-averaged results show good axial power profile with the CANFLEX-RU fuel. During the simulation period, the maximum channel and bundle power were maintained below the licensing limit of CANDU 6 reactor.

  • This paper provides a method for speech detection. After first order FIR filtering on the speech signals, we applied the conventional method of endpoint detection which utilizes the energy as the criterion in separating signals from background noise. By FIR filtering, only the Fourier components with large values of [amplitude x frequency] become significant in energy profile. By applying this procedure to the 445-words database constructed from ETRI, we confirmed that the low-amplitude noise and/or the low-frequency noise are separated clearly from the speech signals, thereby enhancing the feasibility of ideal endpoint detections.

  • Theoretical studies on the proton transfer reaction in a formamide dimer have been done by Ab initio SCF calculation. In this study, we have shown several effects on the potential energy profile of the proton transfer in a formamide dimer, such as the effect of a basis set, the effect of a geometry optimization, and the effect of a distance between proton-donor and proton-acceptor.

  • Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) and Home Centralized Photovoltaic (HCPV) systems can address various energy storage issues and enhance demand response programs. Renewable energy, such as solar energy and wind turbines, address the energy gap. However, no energy management system is currently available to regulate the uncertainty of renewable energy sources, electric vehicles, and appliance consumption within a smart microgrid. Therefore, this study investigated the impact of solar photovoltaic (PV) panels, electric vehicles, and Micro-Grid (MG) storage on maximum solar radiation hours. Several Deep Learning (DL) algorithms were applied to account for the uncertainty. Moreover, a Reinforcement Learning HCPV (RL-HCPV) algorithm was created for efficient real-time energy scheduling decisions. The proposed algorithm managed the energy demand between PV solar energy generation and vehicle energy storage. RL-HCPV was modeled according to several constraints to meet household electricity demands in sunny and cloudy weather. Simulations demonstrated how the proposed RL-HCPV system could efficiently handle the demand response and how V2H can help to smooth the appliance load profile and reduce power consumption costs with sustainable power generation. The results demonstrated the advantages of utilizing RL and V2H as potential storage technology for smart buildings.

  • We have characterized the optical parametric chirped-pulse amplification of femtosecond Ti:sapphire laser pulses by using a BBO crystal. It is numerically verified that a high gain and a broad gain bandwidth can be obtained with a 532-nm pump laser. The dependence of the gain profile of OPA on phase matching angles, pump intensity, and crystal length is numerically investigated. Experimental results shows that the temporal fluctuation of a pump laser causes the modulation of an amplified spectrum in OPCPA.

  • In the present paper, a coaxial rotating smeared crack model is proposed for mass concrete in three-dimensional space. The model is capable of applying both the constant and variable shear transfer coefficients in the cracking process. The model considers an advanced yield function for concrete failure under both static and dynamic loadings and calculates cracking or crushing of concrete taking into account the fracture energy effects. The model was utilized on Koyna Dam using finite element technique. Dam-water and dam-foundation interactions were considered in dynamic analysis. The behavior of dam was studied for different shear transfer coefficients considering/neglecting fracture energy effects. The results were extracted at crest displacement and crack profile within the dam body. The results show the importance of both shear transfer coefficient and the fracture energy in seismic analysis of concrete dams under high hydrostatic pressure.

  • Wear model for predicting the vehaviour of a depth is considered in this paper. It is deduced from the energy and volume based wear models such as the Archard equation and the workrate model. A new parameter of the equivalent depth ($D_e$= wear volume /worn area) is considered for the wear model of a depth prediction. A concenpt of a dissipated shear energy density is accommodated for in the suggested models. It is found that $D_e$ can distinguish the worn area shape. A cubic of $D_e$($D_e^3$) gives a better linear regression with the volume than that of the maximmum depth $D_{max}e$($D_{max}^3$) does. Both $D_{max}$ and $D_e$ are used for the presently suggested depth-based wear model. As a result, a wear depth profile can be simulated by a model using $D_{max}$. Wear resistance from the concern of an overall depth can be identified by the wear coefficient of the model using $D_e$.

  • This paper proposes code optimization techniques to reduce energy consumption of complex multimedia applications in a hybrid memory system with volatile dynamic random access memory (DRAM) and non-volatile spin-transfer torque magnetoresistive RAM (STT-MRAM). The proposed approach analyzes read/write operations for variables in an application. Based on the profile, variables with a high read operation are allocated to STT-MRAM, and variables with a high write operation are allocated to DRAM to reduce energy consumption. In this paper, to optimize code for real-life complicated applications, we develop a profiler, a code modifier, and compiler/link scripts. The proposed techniques are applied to a Fast Forward Motion Picture Experts Group (FFmpeg) application. The experiment reduces energy consumption by up to 22%.

  • This paper proposes a new soft switching technique for a phase-shift controlled bi-directional DC-DC converter. The described converter employs a low profile high frequency transformer and two active full-bridge converters for bidirectional power flow capability. A new soft switching technique is proposed, which guarantees soft switching over wide range (no load to full load) without any additional circuit components. In the proposed switching scheme, the switch pairs in the diagonal position of the converter each are turned on/off simultaneously by the switching signals with a variable duty ratio depending on the phase shift amount, and the converter is operated without freewheeling interval.
