Two experiments were conducted to establish a digestible energy (DE) content prediction model of rapeseed meal for growing-finishing pig based on rapeseed meal's chemical composition. In experiment 1, observed linear relationships between the determined DE content of 22 rapeseed meal calibration samples and proximate nutrients, gross energy (GE) and neutral detergent fiber (NDF) were used to develop the DE prediction model. In experiment 2, 4 samples of rapeseed meal selected at random from the primary rapeseed growing regions of China were used for testing the accuracy of DE prediction models. The results indicated that the DE was negatively correlated with NDF (r = -0.86) and acid detergent fiber (ADF) (r = -0.73) contents, and moderately correlated with gross energy (GE; r = 0.56) content in rapeseed meal calibration samples. In contrast, no significant correlations were found for crude protein, ether extract, crude fiber and ash contents. According to the regression analysis, NDF or both NDF and GE were found to be useful for the DE prediction models. Two prediction models: DE = 16.775-0.147${\times}$NDF ($R^2$ = 0.73) and DE = 11.848-0.131${\times}$NDF+0.231${\times}$GE ($R^2$ = 0.76) were obtained. The maximum absolute difference between the in vivo DE determinations and the predicted DE values was 0.62 MJ/kg and the relative difference was 5.21%. Therefore, it was concluded that, for growing-finishing pigs, these two prediction models could be used to predict the DE content of rapeseed meal with acceptable accuracy.
The Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute acquired the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory phantom for calibration of germanium detectors used for in vivo measurement of radionuclides deposited in human lungs. The manufacturer inscribed concentric circles as a phoswich detector positioning guides on the phantom's torso plate and its overlay plates, and provided the effective thickness of the chest wall for each plate measured at locations over the circles. However, since the germanium detectors are of different sizes, the areas considered for phoswich detectors were no. longer applicable for the locations of the germanium detectors on the phantom. Therefore, we re-evaluated the effective thickness of the phantom to determine if the manufacturer' s data are valid for germanium detectors in use for in vivo lung counting or if new values must be implemented. Differences no more than 3% in effective thickness were found between the germanium detector regions to be used at the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute and the phoswich detector regions prescribed by the manufacturer.

Additional neutral particle analyzer has been installed to investigate the variation of fast ion tails with regard to the line of sight during 2012 KSTAR campaign. The system has the same photo-diode particle detector as previous system [1]. Both newly installed system and previous system modifield for 2012 campaign have two channels. One has a particle stopper transparent to hard X-ray, the other has no one. It will be used to separate the hard X-ray component from total hard X-ray and fast neutral counts. It is expected to measure fast ion tails more clearly through this extended system. A detailed system and calibration result will be presented in the conference.
To reduce the instrumental and calibration errors in the photoelectric photometry as much as possible it is necessary to select the optimum photocell voltage and energy attenaution and to observe as many standard stars as possible over the wide range of color, spectral type and air mass.

Background: Different cases exist in the measurement of thyroid radiobioassays owing to the individual characteristics of the subjects, especially the potential variation in the counting efficiency. An In situ Object Counting System (ISOCS) was developed to perform an efficiency calibration based on the Monte Carlo calculation, as an alternative to conventional calibration methods. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the applicability of ISOCS to thyroid radiobioassays by comparison with a conventional thyroid monitoring system. Materials and Methods: The efficiency calibration of a portable high-purity germanium (HPGe) detector was performed using ISOCS software. In contrast, the conventional efficiency calibration, which needed a radioactive material, was applied to a scintillator-based thyroid monitor. Four radioiodine samples that contained $^{125}I$ and $^{131}I$ in both aqueous solution and gel forms were measured to evaluate radioactivity in the thyroid. ANSI/HPS N13.30 performance criteria, which included the relative bias, relative precision, and root-mean-squared error, were applied to evaluate the performance of the measurement system. Results and Discussion: The portable HPGe detector could measure both radioiodines with ISOCS but the thyroid monitor could not measure $^{125}I$ because of the limited energy resolution of the NaI(Tl) scintillator. The $^{131}I$ results from both detectors agreed to within 5% with the certified results. Moreover, the $^{125}I$ results from the portable HPGe detector agreed to within 10% with the certified results. All measurement results complied with the ANSI/HPS N13.30 performance criteria. Conclusion: The results of the intercomparison program indicated the feasibility of applying ISOCS software to direct thyroid radiobioassays. The portable HPGe detector with ISOCS software can provide the convenience of efficiency calibration and higher energy resolution for identifying photopeaks, compared with a conventional thyroid monitor with a NaI(Tl) scintillator. The application of ISOCS software in a radiation emergency can improve the response in terms of internal contamination monitoring.

With the international increasing of the important of oceanic researches related to climate changes, resources conservation and development and the advanced application of oceanic researches, advanced countries in ocean have developed the systematic management systems for oceanographic instruments. Despite the increasing realization of need for the establishment of management system, no systematic management system has been built in KOREA. There is an ungently need to construct the efficient and professional maintenance and management system of oceanographic instruments that are extremely expensive for meeting the increasing demands of oceanographic observation and investigation. In this paper, the present possession of oceanographic instruments in KOREA and the need for the establishment of management systems for oceanographic instruments are discussed. In addition, we introduce the total management system for oceanographic instruments using a RFID(Radio Frequency IDentification) at KORDI and discuss the necessity of the introduction and establishment for producing high quality data in oceanic researches.
This study provides an analysis on results of neutron logging for various borehole environments through numerical simulation based on a Monte Carlo N-Particle (MCNP) code developed and maintained by Los Alamos National Laboratory. MCNP is suitable for the simulation of neutron logging since the algorithm can simulate transport of nuclear particles in three-dimensional geometry. Rather than simulating a specific tool of a particular service company between many commercial neutron tools, we have constructed a generic thermal neutron tool characterizing commercial tools. This study makes calibration chart of the neutron logging tool for materials (e.g., limestone, sandstone and dolomite) with various porosities. Further, we provides correction charts for the generic neutron logging tool to analyze responses of the tool under various borehole conditions by considering brine-filled borehole fluid and void water, and presence of borehole fluid.

Two liquids which are generally used as fuels of rockets are mixed and their mixing process is quantitatively investigated by the use of particle image velocimetry (PIV). As working fluids for the liquid mixing, Dimethylfuran (DMF) and JetA1 oils have been used. Since the specific gravity of DMF is larger than that of JetA1 oil, the DMF oil has been set at the lower part of the JetA1 oil. For better visualization of the mixing process, Rhodamin B powder has been blended into the DMF oil. An agitator having 3 blades has been used for mixing the two liquids. For quantitative visualization, a LCD monitor has been used as a light source. A color camera, camcoder, has been used for recording the mixing process. The images captured by the camcoder have been digitized into three color components, R, G, and B. The color intensities of R, G, and B have been used as the inputs of the neural network of which hidden layer has 20 neurons. Color-to-concentration calibration has been performed before commencing the main experiments. Once this calibration is completed, the temporal changes of the concentration of the DMF has been quantitatively analyzed by using the constructed measurement system.
When a developed paper partition chromatogram was irradiated by means of the pneumatic tube system of the Korean research reactor (neutron flux: 1.5 ${\times}10^{12}n/cm^2$sec.) the qualitative confirmation of the developed spot on the chromatogram was possible. In the case of an organic halogen compounds (chloro-acid, chloro-ester, iodide, and fluoride) the spot analysis was possible by the present method whereas the same spot could not give the distinct coloring with a common coloring reagents. Filterpaper thickness calibration and activity calibration induced by irradiation of the components of the filter paper, which were a source of erraneous interpretation of the spot, were searched and an average filterpaper calibration method and filter paper activity were improvised to obtain a good qualitative analysis of the spot. Finally the use and applicability of this method for the analysis identification of an organic halogen compound were evaluated. As the filter paper phase an ordinary phase (Whatmann #1, filter paper) and reversed phase (liquid paraffin impregnated) were used.
