Gapped Nearly Free-Standing Graphene on an SiC(0001) Substrate Induced by Manganese Atoms

  • The electron band structure of manganese-adsorbed graphene on an SiC(0001) substrate has been studied using angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy. Upon introducing manganese atoms, the conduction band of graphene, that is observed in pristine graphene indicating intrinsic electron-doping by the substrate, completely disappears and the valence band maximum is observed at 0.4 eV below Fermi energy. At the same time, the slope of the valence band decreases by the presence of manganese atoms, approaching the electron band structure calculated using the local density approximation method. The former provides experimental evidence of the formation of nearly free-standing graphene on an SiC substrate, concomitant with a metal-to-insulator transition. The latter suggests that its electronic correlations are efficiently screened, suggesting that the dielectric property of the substrate is modified by manganese atoms and indicating that electronic correlations in grpahene can also be tuned by foreign atoms. These results pave the way for promising device application using graphene that is semiconducting and charge neutral.

  • 유비쿼터스 센서 네트워크의 성능을 판단하는 중요한 지표로 감지된 정보를 실시간으로 전송하는 능력과 네트워크의 최대 생존시간을 들 수 있다. 하지만 대부분의 무선센서 에너지원은 배터리로 구성되어 있음으로 인해 실시간 정보전송을 위해 통신모듈의 전원을 자주 사용하게 되면 조기에 네트워크의 생존력을 잃게 되는 문제가 발생할 수 있으며 그와 반대로 에너지소모를 낮추기 위해 전송 주기를 길게 하면 전송지연이 발생되어 위급한 상황에서 시스템이 즉시 대응하지 못하는 문제가 발생할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 통신모듈을 DUAL BAND로 이중화하고 송수신모드를 세분화하여 각 모듈에 공급되는 에너지를 상황에 맞게 제어하는 방법을 제안하며 제안한 방법을 적용하여 에너지 소모량과 전송지연시간을 계산한 결과, 중요한 군사적 목적이나 위험방지를 위한 실시간 감시 목적으로 사용할 경우 실시간전송과 효율적 에너지사용을 동시에 만족시킴을 확인할 수 있었다.

PCA Covariance Model Based on Multiband for Speaker Verification (화자 확인을 위한 다중대역에 기반한 주성분 분석 공분산 모델)

  • Feature vectors of speech are generally extracted from whole frequency domain. The inherent character of a speaker is located in the low band or high band frequency. However, if the speech is corrupted by narrowband noise with concentrated energy, speaker verification performance is reduced as the individual characteristic is removed. In this paper, we propose a PCA Covariance Model based on the multiband to extract the robust feature vectors against the narrowband noise. First, we divide the overall frequency band into several subbands. Second, the correlation of feature vectors extracted independently from each subband is removed by PCA. The distance obtained from each subband has different distribution. To normalize against the different distribution, we moved the value into the normalized distribution through the mapping function. Finally, the represented value applying the weighting function is used for speaker verification. In the experiments, the proposed method shows better performance of the speaker verification and reduces the computation.

  • In recent, ISM (Industrial Scientific Medical) band that is 2.4GHz band authorized free of charge is being widely used for smart phone, notebook computer, printer and portable multimedia devices. Accordingly, studies have been continuously conducted on the possibility of coexistence among nodes using ISM band. In particular, the interference of IEEE 802.11b based Wi-Fi device using overlapping channel during communication among IEEE 802.15.4 based wireless sensor nodes suitable for low-power, low-speed communication using ISM band causes serious network performance deterioration of wireless sensor networks. This paper examined a method of identifying channel status to avoid interference among wireless communication devices using IEEE 802.11b (Wi-Fi) and other ISM bands during communication among IEEE 802.15.4 based wireless sensor network nodes in ISM band. To identify channels occupied by Wi-Fi traffic, various studies are being conducted that use the RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indicator) value of interference signal obtained through ED (Energy Detection) feature that is one of IEEE 802.15.4 transmitter characteristics. This paper examines an algorithm that identifies the possibility of using more accurate channel by mixing utilization of interference signal and RSSI mean value of interference signal by wireless sensor network nodes. In addition, it verifies such algorithm by using OPNET Network verification simulator.

  • We investigate the spin transfer torque in metallic multilayer system by employing Keldysh non-equilibrium Green function method. We study the dependences of the spin transfer torque on the detailed energy configuration of ferromagnetic, spacer, and lead layers. With Keldysh non-equilibrium Green function method applied to a single band model, we explore spin transfer torque effect in various layer structures and for various material parameters.

Properties of CuInSe2 Thin Film with Various Substrate Temperatures (기판온도에 따른 CuInSe2 박막의 특성)

  • In this paper, the $CuInSe_2$ thin film was prepared by using co-evaporation method in four different substrate temperatures $100^{\circ}C$, $200^{\circ}C$, $300^{\circ}C$ and $400^{\circ}C$. When the substrate temperature was at $200^{\circ}C$ and $300^{\circ}C$, the single-phase $CuInSe_2$ was crystallized. As the temperature increased, it was shown that the thickness of the thin film was decreased with increment of the hall coefficient. When the sample was prepared at $200^{\circ}C$ of the subsrate temperature, the values of band gap energy (Eg), sheet resister and resistivity were measured 0.99 eV, $89.82\;{\Omega}/{\square}$ and $103{\times}10^{-4}\;{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$, respectively.

Improved Rainfall Estimation Based on Corrected Radar Reflectivity in Partial Beam Blockage Area of S-band Dual-Polarization Radar (S밴드 이중편파레이더의 부분 빔 차폐영역 내 반사도 보정을 통한 지상강우추정 개선)

  • A correction method of reflectivity in partial beam blockage (PBB) area is suggested, which is based on the combination of digital terrain information and self-consistency principle between polarimetric observation. First, the reflectivity was corrected by adding the radar energy loss estimated from beam blockage simulation using digital elevation model (DEM) and beam propagation geometry in standard atmosphere. The additional energy loss by unexpected obstacles and non-standard beam propagation was estimated by using the coefficient between accumulated reflectivity ($Z_H$) and differences of differential phase shift (${\Phi}_{DP}$) along radial direction. The proposed method was applied to operational S-band dual-polarization radar at Jindo and its performance was compared with those of simulation method and self-consistency method for six rainfall cases. When the accumulated reflectivity and increment of ${\Phi}_{DP}$ along radial direction are too small, the self-consistency method has failed to correct the reflectivity while the combined method has corrected the reflectivity bias reasonably. The correction based on beam simulation showed the underestimation. For evaluation of rainfall estimation, the FBs (FRMSEs) of simulation method and self-consistency principle were -0.32 (0.59) and -0.30 (0.57), respectively. The proposed method showed the lowest FB (-0.24) and FRMSE (0.50). The FB and FMSE were improved by about 18% and by 19% in comparison to those before correction (-0.42 and 0.70). We can conclude that the proposed method can improve the accuracy of rainfall estimation in PBB area.

  • In this study, several lanthanide complexes such as Eu$(TTA)_3$(Phen). Tb$(ACAC)_3$(Cl-Phen) were synthesized and the white-light electroluminescence (EL) characteristics of their thin films were investigated. where the devices having structures of anode/TPD/Tb$(ACAC)_3$(Cl-Phen)/Eu$(TTA)_3$(Phen)/$Alq_3$ or $Bebq_2$/ cathode and the low work function metal alloy such as Li:Al was used as the electron injecting electrode (cathode). Details on the white-light-emitting characteristics of these device structures were explained by the energy band diagrams of various materials used in these structures, where the energy levels of new materials such as ionization potential (IP) and electron affinity (EA) were measured by cyclic voltametric method.

Synthesis and Electrochemical Spectroscopic Characterization of Benzophenone Derivatives (벤조페논 유도체의 합성과 전기화학 및 분광학특성에 관한 연구)

  • The benzophenone derivatives(4-$CH_3O$-4'-$NO_2$ and 3,4'-di-$NO_2$) are synthesized by the Fridel-Craft acylation and the nitration method. Electrochemical redox potentials of the benzophenone derivatives (4-$CH_3O$, H, 3-Cl, 3-$NO_2$, 4-$NO_2$, 4-$CH_3O$-4'-$NO_2$, 3,4'-di-$NO_2$) are measured by using cyclic voltammometry. In the relationship of summing Hammett value and redox potential, we find a proportional constant$(\rho)$ that shows a good relation with an electrochemical property and a reactivity of the benzophenone derivatives. The benzophenone substituted with the electron donating groups(4-$OCH_3$ and 4-$OCH_3-4'-NO_2$) are higher the energy in the LUMO level, then increasing a band-gap energy$(E_g)$, their $E_gs$ are obtained as a 3.94 eV and 3.59 eV, respectively.

Crystal Growth of Cd4GeS6 and Cd4GeS6:Co2+Single Crystals ($Cd_{4}GeS_{6}$$Cd_{4}GeS_{6}:Co^{2+}$ 단결정의 성장)

  • In this paper author describe the undoped and $Co^{2+}$ (0.5mole%)doped $Cd_4GeS_6$ single crystals were grown by the chemical transporting reaction(CTR) method using high purity(6N) Cd, $GeS_2$, S elements. It was found from the analysis of X-ray diffraction that the undoped and $Co^{2+}$(0.5mole%) doped $Cd_{4}GeS_{6}$ compounds have a monoclinic structure in space grop Cc. The optical energy band gap was direct band gap and temperature dependence of optical energy gap was fitted well to Varshni equation. Impurity optical absorption peaks due to the doped cobalt in the $Cd_4GeS_6:Co^{2+}$ single crystal were observed at 3593cm-1, 5048cm-1, 5901cm-1, 7322cm-1, 12834cm-1, 13250cm-1, 14250cm-1,and 14975cm-1 at 11.3K.
