  • As a new approach to analyze grinding energy, this paper introduces a specific grinding energy model based on the average grain. Using this model, grinding characteristics such as radial and tangential forces, specific grinding energy of SM45C were investigated with changing grinding variables such as workpiece velocity(v) and apparent depth of cut(Z) in down-surface grinding. From the experimental results, the specific grinding energy decreases as the maximum undeformed chip thickness increases. And there is no significant difference between the specific grinding energies of the existing and the proposed model.

  • This study refers to temporal variation of physical properties of tilled soil under natural rainfalls. Field measurements of porosity, average hydraulic conductivity and average capillary pressure head on a tilled soil were conducted by soil sampler and air-entry permeameter respectively at regular intervals after tillage. Temporal variation of these physical properties were analysed by cumulative rainfall energy since tillage. Field experiment was conducted on a sandy loam soil at Suwon durging April~July in 1989. The followings are a summary of this study results ; 1. Average porosity just after tillage was 0.548cm$^3$/cm$^3$. As cumulative rainfall energy were increased in 0.1070, 0.1755, 0.3849 J/cm$^2$, average porosity were decreased in 0.506, 0.4]95, 0.468m$^3$/cm$^3$ respectively. 2. Average hydraulic conductivity just after tillage was 45.42cm/hr. As cumulative rainfall energy were increased in 0.1755, 0.2466, 0.2978, 0.3849J/cm$^2$ average hydraulic conductivity were decreased in 15.34, 13.47, 9.58, 8.65cm/hr respectively. 3. As average porosity were decreased in 0.548, 0.506, 0.495, 0.468cm$^3$/cm$^3$ average capillary pressure head were increased in 6.1, 6.7, 6.9, 7.4cm respectively. 4. It was found that temporal variation of porosity, average hydraulic conductivity on a tilled soil might be expressed as a function of cumulative rainfall energy and average capillary pressure head might be expressed as a function of porosity. 5. The results of this study may be helpful to predict infiltration into a tilled soil more accurately by considering Temporal variation of physical properties of soil.

  • Crystalline silicon photovoltaic module certification began in 2007. "Renewable Energy Equipment Certification Scheme" was implemented until July 28, 2015. Then, the scheme was changed to "KS Certification Scheme" since July 29, 2015. A total of 2,331 models have been certified by 2016. The proportion of multi crystalline modules in certified products is higher than that of mono crystalline modules, and Korean modules account for 78% of the total certification modules. Chinese solar cells account for the highest percentage of 40% of the total modules and 62.4% of modules certified in 2016 use Chinese solar cells. With the development of technology, module power is continuously increasing, and efficiency is also rising. The average efficiency of mono crystalline module is 0.74% higher than the average of multi crystalline module. As a result of comparing domestic module with Chinese module, the highest efficiency of mono crystalline module and multi crystalline module and the average efficiency of mono crystalline module are higher than those of Chinese module, but the average efficiency of multi crystalline module is similar to that of Chinese module.

  • Twenty-five sows and 265 piglets (Landrace ${\times}$ Yorkshire) were used to evaluate the effects of dietary energy level on the pre-weaning and post-weaning performance of piglets and first parity sows. Sows with an average initial B.W. of $217.54{\pm}25.47kg$ were randomly assigned to 2 treatments. The treatments consisted of a T1 diet containing 3,100 kcal, and the T2 diet contained 3400 kcal of metabolizable energy (ME)/kg, respectively. Data were analyzed using Duncan statements to test the effect of the dietary energy levels on growth performance in lactating sows and piglets. In this study, Dietary T2 sows had a greater number of weaned piglets per litter (p < 0.05). Dietary T2 had a higher (p < 0.05) body weight than that of T1 in the weanlings, meanwhile it had a higher total average daily gain (p < 0.05) than that of T1. Dietary T1 had a higher average feed intake than that of T2 in gestation and lactation. There were no significant differences on the litter size or litter birth weight. No differences (p > 0.05) were noted in the survival of the piglets as well as in the backfat thickness and body weight loss in sows. In conclusion, these results show that high-energy diets had no effect on the body weight and backfat thickness of sows during gestation and lactation but influenced the body weight and average daily gain of weanling pigs during the lactation period.

  • A grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) system comprised of multicrystalline silicon (mc-Si) modules was installed in a cold climate region in the U.S. This roof-mounted stationary PV system is a real-world application of PV for building energy generation in International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) Climate Zone 5 (and possibly similar climate zones such as 6, 7 and 8), and it served the purposes of research, demonstration, and education. The importance of this work is highlighted by the fact that there has been less emphasis on solar PV system in this region of the U.S. because of climate and latitude challenges. The system is equipped with an extensive data acquisition system capable of collecting performance and meteorological data while visually displaying real-time and historical data through an interactive online interface. Experimental data was collected and analyzed for the system over a one-year period with the focus of the study being on measurements of power production, energy generation, and efficiency. The annual average daily solar insolation incident upon the array was found to be $4.37kWh/m^2$. During the first year of operation, the PV system provided 5,801 kWh (1,264 kWh/kWp) of usable AC electrical energy, and it was found to operate at an annual average conversion efficiency and PR of 10.6 percent and 0.79, respectively. The annual average DC to AC conversion efficiency of the inverter was found to be 94 percent.

  • In spite of many advantages such as the simplicity in test procedure, Standard Penetration Test(SPT) results contain some errors caused by the variability of test equipment, instruments and test procedures. Especially, it is inevitable that the measured SPT hammer energy is different from the theoretical value because of energy loss. In this paper, the hammer energy level is measured during the performance of the field SPT in Korea by using a ultra-sonic system and PC.program. As the results of this study, the average hammer energy ratio of the R-P hammer and the Trip hammer is calculated at 64.2%, and at 75.0% respectively. The average energy ratio of the SPT for the R-P hammer is calculated at 46% and at 54% for the Trip hammer, by applying the rod energy ratio 0.72.

  • A method of calculating the excess Helmholtz free energy from the average of the bent effective acceptance ratio for two-center-Lennard-Jones liquids has been presented. The bent effective acceptance ratio has been newly composed from the acceptan ce ratio for the potential energy difference between a configuration in the Metropolis Monte Carlo procedure and random virtual configuration generated by the separate parallel Monte Carlo procedure and the Boltzmann factor for half the potential energy difference. The excess Helmholtz free energy was calculated directly from the average of the bent effective acceptance ratio through a single Metropolis Monte Carlo run. Because the separate parallel Monte Carlo procedure was used, this method can be applied to molecular dynamics simulations. For two-center-Lennard-Jones liquids, the average of the bent effective acceptance ratio gave better results than use of the modified effective acceptance ratio in the previous work.

  • MANET(Mobile Ad hoc Network) is a collection of two or more nodes equipped with wireless communications and constrained by the factor of energy limitation. The running out of energy on some nodes may bring down the performance of network seriously. For solving the problems above, this paper uses completely separated Node-Disjoint multipaths from a source to a destination as many as possible. And, based on average, minimum or variance of energy values on the each multipath, the packets are distributed on paths. Generally, collecting methods for energy information can be classified into two main categories, Static and Dynamic. As the different energy values collected, the packet distribution methods are classified into six criteria, Static-Average, Static-Minimum, Static-Variance, Dynamic-Average, Dynamic-Minimum and Dynamic-Variance respectively. The performance of the packet distribution methods and that of AODV are compared by NS2 simulation.

  • The purpose of this study was to assess the energy value of breakfast and its relation to total daily nutrient intake and serum lipid. Dietary intakes were evaluated through the 3-day dietary recalls(interview for 1day and self-report for 2 days) from 333 Korean urban adults aged 20-49 year. Serum lipids in fasting blood samples were measured form 98 of those 333 adults. Low energy breakfast(<15% of daily energy intake) was consumed by 22.6% of males and 18.5% of females. 59.4 of males and 43.3% of females consumed a breakfast of average energy intake(15-25% daily energy intake) ; and 18.1 of males and 38.2% of females consumed a significant contribution to a total daily nutrient intake. The daily nutrient intake except crude fiber and vitamin A, B, B, and C in males and except vitamin C in females significantly increased as the energy value of breakfast increased. The differences in energy and nutrient intakes at breakfast were not made up for by other meals. To make matters worse, the satisfactory-energy breakfast group took more energy at dinner compared with the low-energy and average-energy breakfast group took more energy at dinner compared with the low-energy and average-energy breakfast groups in females. Among serum lipid parameters, TG was negatively correlated with energy provided at breakfast, and total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol had a negative correlation with energy and carbohydrates provided at breakfast in males. For females TG was positively correlated with the ratio of carbohydrates to energy at breakfast but negatively correlated with the ratio of fat to energy at breakfast. These results suggest that satisfactory energy intakes at breakfast have positive effects on the adequacy of daily nutrient intake and may positively affect the serum lipid status.
