In recent decades, the heterogeneous and dynamic behavior of Internet traffic has placed new demands on the adaptive resource allocation of the optical network infrastructure. However, the advent of multifiber elastic optical networks has led to a higher degree of spectrum fragmentation than conventional flexible grid networks due to the dynamic and random establishment and removal of optical connections. In this paper, we propose heuristic routing and dynamic slot allocation algorithms to minimize spectrum fragmentation and reduce the probability of blocking future connection requests by considering the power consumption in elastic multifiber elastic optical networks.
The purpose of the study was to identify the level of housing choice behavior by using the factors of residential satisfaction level, mobility motivation, and housing needs of potential purchasers in Bukgu New Housing Area, Ulsan. The survey used questionnaire from 326 households living in Bukgu and nearby area and analyzed using descriptive statistics. The research results showed low degree of residential satisfaction in storage space and neighborhood. The mobility motivations were improvement of physical environment improvement, education environment, walking road, view and lighting. The housing needs for indoor spaces showed to want more functional arrangement than the room size. The housing needs for outdoor spaces showed to want neighborhood environment in connection with the education or hospital facilities, the welfare facilities for pre-kindergarten children and elders and the leisure facilities. And the housing needs for facilities were floor furnishing for health, crime prevention system for safety needs, housekeeping appliance against environmental pollution, additional function for energy saving. The housing needs for common spaces showed that the residents preferred playing facilities by age group, exercise facilities, the community hall and the rest room which can do games or meetings.
Accumulated annual reservoir sedimentation in Taiwan was 14.6 million m3 in 2010, seriously endangering reservoir safety and the water supply. In addition, the sintering temperature of reservoir-sediment aggregates (RSAs) is very high, and very energy consuming consequently. Therefore, to explore the effects of admixtures on sintering behavior and performance of the aggregates, two different admixtures are blended, waste-glass and municipal sewage sludge, into reservoir sediment to make artificial aggregates. Experimental results show that the lightweight characteristics of waste-glass/reservoir-sediment aggregates (WGRSAs) are more significant than those of sewage sludge/reservoir-sediment aggregates (SSRSAs). Moreover, as sintering temperature increases, the specific gravity of WGRSAs drops more apparently. The optimum sintering temperature of pure reservoir-sediment aggregates (PRSAs), SSRSAs, and WGRSAs was $1150^{\circ}C$, $1100^{\circ}C$, and $1050^{\circ}C$, respectively. The PRSAs are normal weight with better strength; the WGRSAs are lightweight and energy-saving; and the SSRSAs are lightweight with normal strength.

In the point of view of a train operator, the main concern with a train operation is not only to maintain a time schedule, but also to decrease the energy consumption as much as possible. Generally for a manual drive, a train conductor controls the train acceleration and deceleration by controlling the notches not to exceed the regulation velocity by considering the given maximum velocity profile for an operation route. For this case, the guideline for a conductor is needed to choose the proper notches by applying the notch optimization so as to drive at the regulation velocity and minimize energy consumption simultaneously. In this paper, the real-time notch optimization plan is suggested using a genetic algorithm that optimizes the notches for the remaining route in real time when the event occurs that track information or regulation velocity profile of the remaining route changes during train operation as well as a normal operation situation. An energy saving effect and the convergence behavior of the optimal solution obtained was analyzed in a genetic algorithm.

This paper describes some computational results of various energy and environmental systems using Patankar's SIMPLE method. The specific topics handled in this study are jet bubbling reactor for flue gas desulfurization, cyclone-type afterburner for incineration, 200m tall stack for 500 MW electric power generation, double skin and heat storage systems of building energy saving for the utilization of solar heating, finally turbulent combustion systems with liquid droplet or pulverized coal particle. A control-volume based finite-difference method with the power-law scheme is employed for discretization. The pressure-velocity coupling is resolved by the use of the revised version of SIMPLE, that is, SIMPLEC. Reynolds stresses are closed using the standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ and RNG $k-{\varepsilon}$ models. Two-phase turbulent combustion of liquid drop or pulverized coal particle is modeled using locally-homogeneous, gas-phase, eddy breakup model. However simple approximate models are incorporated for the modeling of the second phase slip and retardation of ignition without consideration of any detailed particle behavior. Some important results are presented and discussed in a brief note. Especially, in order to make uniform exit flow for the jet bubbling reactor, a well-designed structure of distributor is needed. Further, the aspect ratio in the double skin system appears to be one of important factors to give rise to the visible change of the induced air flow rate. The computational tool employed in this study, in general, appears as a viable method for the design of various engineering system of interest.

The effect of a greenhouse-covering material on its indoor environment and on the characteristics of cherry tomatoes grown in it was investigated. The conventional polyethylene (PE) film on the greenhouse roof was replaced by a polycarbonate (PC) sheet, while maintaining the main structural frame intact. Color changes and the formation of water droplets on the PC surface were avoided by applying coextrusion and coating layers. When compared to the PE greenhouse, the PC greenhouse enabled increased light transmittance and thus a higher indoor temperature during both summer and winter. The thermal insulating property of the PC sheet effectively reduced the heating loss by approximately 55% during winter. The cherry tomatoes grown in the PC greenhouse exhibited superior fruit characteristics in terms of size, weight, and sugar content. The total amount of cherry tomatoes produced per unit area (1,000 ㎡) in the PC greenhouse was found to be greater by approximately 19% compared to that in the PE greenhouse.

Recently, the condensation and mold problems of apartment buildings has been growing due to high insulation and high air-tightness performance for energy saving. Most of all, occupants in residential buildings has suffered from property damages due to the condensation and mold of built-in furniture. Condensation at built-in furniture were generally found in winter at the of furniture's back panels, adjacent surfaces of wall, floor and ceiling. The aim of paper is to analyze the characteristics of adjacent area around built-in furniture's condensation problem and the thermal environment around the built-in furniture in winter through the field measurements at apartment buildings. In this research, the thermal conditions and surface temperature around the built-in furniture were measured during winter season. In this research, we analyzed thermal conditions for built-in furniture which were applied and not applied auxiliary heating device. In results, it is important to consider increasing surface temperature for using heater and decreasing absolute humidity due to the occupants' behavior around built-in furniture for preventing condensation.
Prefabricated exterior wall panel is the main non-load-bearing component of assembly building, which affects the comprehensive performance of thermal insulation and durability of the building. It is of great significance to develop new prefabricated exterior wall panel with durable and lightweight characteristics for the development of energy-saving and assembly building. In the prefabricated sandwich insulation hanging wall panel, the selection of material for the outer layer and the arrangement of the connector of the inner and outer wall layers affect the mechanical performance and durability of the wall panels. In this paper, high performance cement-based composites (HPFRC) are used in the outer layer of the new type wall panel. FRP bars are used as the interface connector. Through experiments and analysis, the influence of the arrangement of connectors on the mechanical behaviors of thin-walled composite wall panel and the panel with window openings under two working conditions are investigated. The failure modes and the role of connectors of thin-walled composite wallboard are analyzed. The influence of the thickness of the wall layer and their combination on the strain growth of the control section, the initial crack resistance, the ultimate bearing capacity and the deformation of the wall panels are analyzed. The research work provides a technical reference for the engineering design of the light-weight thin-walled and durable composite sandwich wall panel.
In the past decades, recycling use of demolished concrete was almost limited to the types of recycled coarse aggregate with a size of about 5-40 mm and recycled fine aggregate with a size of about 0-5 mm for concrete structures, and reuse of demolished concrete lumps (DCLs) with a size much larger than that of recycled aggregate, e.g., 50-300 mm, has been limited to roadbed, backfilling materials, or discarded to landfills. Treatment processes of DCLs are much simpler than those of recycled aggregate, leading to less cost and more energy-saving. In the future, the amount of demolished concrete is estimated to be much higher, so reuse of DCLs for concrete structures will become necessary. The objectives of this paper are to document the process of making reinforced concrete beams with DCLs, and to discuss the flexural and shear behaviors of those reinforced DCL beams through an experimental program, which includes three beams filled with DCLs and one conventional beam for investigating the flexural strengths and deformations, and 12 beams filled with DCLs and two conventional beams for investigating the shear strengths and deformations. The authors hope that the proposed concept offers another sustainable solution to the concrete industry.
Double split tee connection has various strength, stiffness, and energy dissipation capacity according to changes of thickness of T-stub flange and gauge distance, number, and diameter of high-strength bolt. If the double split tee connection is applied to a low- or medium-rise steel structure, a shear tab can't be applied for supporting shear force because of geometrical limitation. So it is required to propose details of improved double split tee connection to support shear force as well as flexural force. This research was performed to see if enough rotational stiffness is found when the double split tee connection without shear tab which was obtained through analytic and experimental researches by Yang et al. is applied to a low- or medium-rise steel structure. Also, it was seen if the low- or medium-rise steel structure having double split tee connection without shear tab has safe structural behavior, as well as material saving effect.
