This study investigated the accuracy of mean sea level pressure(MSLP) predicted by weather models around Korean Peninsula during typhoon Manyi and Usagi period in 2007. The mesoscale regional model, RDAPS, KWRF with 30 and 10 km horizontal resolution and developed high-resolution WRF models with 9 and 3 km horizontal resolutions are used to predict the features of MSLP. The predicted MSLP aspects were verified using observed results from total 35 coastal stations including AWS and ocean buoy. Although 4 models showed the reasonable MLSP results during typhoon periods, the highest resolution, 3km WRF model show the most accurate MSLP results with maximum 69% and 60% improvement with comparisons of RDAPS and KWRF, respectively.
The numerical simulation optimized by Four Dimensional Data Assimilation (FDDA) with Quick Scatterometer (QuikSCAT) data is carried out to evaluate wind resource characteristics at various heights in the southeastern area of the Korean Peninsula, where wind farms are planned to be built on on- and off-shore as well as comparable diurnal wind variations are characterized at the surface. The temporal and spatial distributions of modeled wind speeds showed good agreement with the observations based on the temporal variation analysis. Model results indicate that the higher model is performed in resolution, the more precise results is at turbine hub height. Occasionally, wind speed variations for each numerical resolution has a different regional and seasonal variations. In the coast area, hub height wind speed of 9km-resolution is simillar to that of 3km-resolution. On the other hand, hub height wind speed of 3km-resolution is simillar to that of 1km-resolution in the Jiri mountainous area.

Vibration measurement using image processing is a fully non-contact measurement method and has many application fields. The resolution of vibration data measured by image processing depends on the camera performance and is lower than that measured by accelerometers. This work discusses the method to increase resolution of vibration signal measured by image processing based on the image mosaic technique with a high-power lens. The working principle of resolution enhancement was explained theoretically and verified by several experiments. It was shown that the proposed method can measure vibrations of relatively large scale structures with increased resolutions.

In this paper, redundancy resolution of UVMS (underwater vehicle-manipulate. system) is addressed. In general, UVMS has redundant DOFs (degrees of freedom) as many as DOFs of manipulator and these redundant DOFs can be used to optimize the configuration of UVMS while satisfying given tasks. We propose a performance index for redundancy resolution which minimizes the restoring moments of UVMS. The restoring moment can cause unintentional change of poses of UVMS. If the restoring moments remain small, control effort for keeping the poses of UVMS decreases. This means that energy consumption can be reduced by minimizing the restoring moments during conducting tasks. Proposed performance measure is optimized by gradient projection method. Generated trajectories by this redundancy resolution are tracked by robust PID controller. Numerical simulations are presented to demonstrate performance of the proposed algorithm.

In large area scanning with a micro-electron-column, the operating condition for the best resolution was investigated in factors of working distance and field of view. The resolution of a test sample was dependent on electron beam energy and scanning field size. The best resolution with single deflector was obtained at 300 V and 30 mm in the electron emitting tip voltage and a working distance, respectively. The scanning area at that condition was $13.9{\times}13.9mm^2$, linearly increased with the working distance. Double deflector was employed for larger scanning size without increasing working distance, but showed only 1.7 times larger than that of single deflector, and the resolution was inverse proportional to the scanning size.
When a scintillator block is constructed using fine scintillator pixels, the scintillator block located at the edge of the scintillator block results in overlapping images. To solve this problem, a light guide was inserted between the scintillator block and the photosensor, and images of all scintillation pixels were separated and acquired. However, loss of light may occur through the light guide, which eventually affects the quality of the image due to a decrease in energy resolution. Therefore, in this study, a detector was designed that can separate scintilltion pixels better by using a reflector on the side of the light guide and can secre excellent energy resolution by minimizing light loss. For comparative evaluation with previous studies, flood images were obtained through DETECT2000 capable of light simulation, and the degree of separation and light collection rate were evaluated. When a reflector was used on the side of the light guide, all materials showed excellent separation regardless of the material of the light guide, which showed better separation results than previous studies. In addition, the light collection rate was more that five times better when the reflector was applied than when it wa not. If this detector is applied to a small animal positron emission tomography, it will be possilbe to secre excellent image quality through excellent spatial resolution and energy resolution.
To acquire seabed information, the mosaic images of the seabed were generated using Side Scan Sonar. Short time energy function which is needed for slant range correction is proposed to get the height of Tow-Fish to the reflected acoustic amplitudes of each ping, and that leads to a mosaic image without water column. While generating mosaic image, maximum value, last value and average value are used for the measure of a pixel in the mosaic image and 3-D information was kept by using acoustic amplitudes which were heading for specific direction. As a generating method of mosaic image, low resolution mosaic image which is over 1m/pixel resolution was generated for whole survey area first, and then high resolution mosaic image which is generated under 0.1m/pixel resolution was generated for the selected area. Rocks, ripple mark, sand wave, tidal flat and artificial fish reef are found in the mosaic image.

The accuracy of an augmented reality (AR) application is highly dependent on the resolution of the object's image and the device's computational processing capability. Naturally, a mobile smart device equipped with a high-resolution camera becomes the best platform for portable AR services. AR applications require significant energy consumption and very fast response time, which are big burdens to the smart device. However, there are very few ways to overcome these burdens. Computation offloading via mobile cloud computing has the potential to provide energy savings and enhance the performance of applications executed on smart devices. Therefore, in this paper, adaptive mobile computation offloading of mobile AR applications is considered in order to determine optimal offloading points that satisfy the required quality of experience (QoE) while consuming minimum energy of the smart device. AR feature extraction based on SURF algorithm is partitioned into sub-stages in order to determine the optimal AR cloud computational offloading point based on conditions of the smart device, wireless and wired networks, and AR service cloud servers. Tradeoffs in energy savings and processing time are explored also taking network congestion and server load conditions into account.
Purpose: To optimize correction method for SPECT/CT, image quality consisting of resolution and contrast was evaluated using three radioisotopes ($^{99m}Tc$, $^{201}Tl$ and $^{131}I$) and three different correction methods; attenuation correction (AC), scatter correction (SC) and both attenuation and scatter correction (ACSC). Materials and Methods: Images were acquired with a SPECT/CT scanner and a conventional CT protocol with an OESM reconstruction algorithm (2 iterations and 10 subsets). For resolution measurement, fixed radioactivity (2.22 kBq) was infused into a spatial resolution phantom and full width at half maximum (FWHM) was measured using a vendor-provided software. For contrast evaluation, radioactive source with a ratio of 1:8 to background was filled in a Flanged Jaszczak phantom and percent contrast (%) were calculated. All the parameters for image quality were compared with non-correction (NC) method. Results: As compared with NC, image resolution of all three isotopes were significantly improved by AC and ACSC, not by SC. In particular, ACSC showed better resolution than AC alone for $^{99m}Tc$ and $^{201}Tl$. Image contrast of all three radioisotopes in a sphere with the largest diameter were enhanced by all correction methods. ACSC showed the highest contrast in all three radioisotopes, which was the most accurate in $^{99m}Tc$ (85.9%). Conclusion: Image quality of SPECT/CT was improved in all the radioisotopes by CT-based attenuation correction methods, except SC alone. SC failed to improve resolution in any radioisotopes, but it was effective in contrast enhancement. ACSC would be the best correction method as it improved resolution in radioisotopes with low energy levels and contrast in radioisotope with low energy levels. However, in radioisotope with high energy level, AC would be better than ACSC for resolution improvement.
This global case study pursues diversification and intensification for an application system of the national wind map which has been developed to support national strategy building and promotion of wind energy dissemination. We chose nine counties' national wind maps and compared their map area, extraction height, temporal and spatial resolution, download services, etc. to derive a best practice for the Korea wind map application system. Therefore, the application system are designed to offer high resolution height information of which covers wind turbine rotor sweeping area and time-series dataset which can be downloaded for further analysis by users. It is anticipated that the system would contribute greatly to wind energy policy, business and research sectors once the derived ideas have been implemented to the application system
