  • In recent years, many researchers have considered the building energy consumption reduction accordingly to deal with abnormal climate changes and greenhouse gas reduction. However, the lighting energy use ratio has increased in spite of the development of the high efficiency lighting device. Therefore, the study aims to produce the LED lighting applications for the effective lighting heat removal by using the heat characteristics of LED lighting and analyzing the heat removal effect. In order to increase radiant heat efficiency, the heat pipe and heat sink was attached on PCB as LED lighting applications. Experiment was conducted to verify the temperature and air velocity of inside duct: thermocouples, anemometer. The heat removal effect of LED lighting applications was measured by observing the temperature of the lighting applications and the change of air velocity in duct. The experiment shows that the temperature change in the duct according to air velocity was $0.9{\sim}5.8^{\circ}C$. It is also concluded that heat removal was calculated from 33 to 81W.

A negative stiffness inerter system (NSIS) for earthquake protection purposes

  • The negative stiffness spring and inerter are both characterized by the negative stiffness effect in the force-displacement relationship, potentially yielding an amplifying mechanism for dashpot deformation by being incorporated with a series tuning spring. However, resisting forces of the two mechanical elements are dominant in different frequency domains, thus leading to necessary complementarity in terms of vibration control and the amplifying benefit. Inspired by this, this study proposes a Negative Stiffness Inerter System (NSIS) as an earthquake protection system and developed analytical design formulae by fully utilizing its advantageous features. The NSIS is composed of a sub-configuration of a negative stiffness spring and an inerter in parallel, connected to a tuning spring in series. First, closed-form displacement responses are derived for the NSIS structure, and a stability analysis is conducted to limit the feasible domains of NSIS parameters. Then, the dual advantageous features of displacement reduction and the dashpot deformation amplification effect are revealed and clarified in a parametric analysis, stimulating the establishment of a displacement-based optimal design framework, correspondingly yielding the design formulae in analytical form. Finally, a series of examples are illustrated to validate the derived formulae. In this study, it is confirmed that the synergistic incorporation of the negative stiffness spring and the inerter has significant energy dissipation efficiency in a wide frequency band and an enhanced control effect in terms of the displacement and shear force responses. The developed displacement-based design strategy is suitable to utilize the dual benefits of the NSIS, which can be accurately implemented by the analytical design formulae to satisfy the target vibration control with increased energy dissipation efficiency.

에너지 소비효율 개선과 리바운드 효과: 수송부문을 중심으로

  • 정부는 2009년도에 국내에서 판매된 전체 승용자동차의 평균연비가 $12.27km/{\ell}$로 전년($11.47km/{\ell}$) 대비 7.0% 향상되었다고 발표하였다. 이는 2009년의 평균연비 향상률은 평균에너지소비효율기준이 도입된 이후인 2006년~2008년간의 평균연비 향상률인 연평균 2.4%보다 약 3배 가까이 높은 수치이다. 정부는 또한 7%의 연비 향상으로 인해 연간 6만 toe의 에너지 소비절감(금액으로 환산시 335억 원) 및 16만톤의 $CO_2$ 배출량 저감효과가 있다고 주장하였다. 그러나, 이러한 주장은 리바운드 효과(rebound effect)를 간과하는 주장이다. 리바운드 효과에 따르면, 에너지 저감기술 진보는 에너지 사용량을 높여 에너지 절감의 긍정적 효과를 상쇄하는 경향이 있는 것으로 알려져 있다. 리바운드 효과가 실제로 존재하고 그 크기가 작지 않다면, 연비 향상에 따른 무역수지 개선 또는 환경오염절감의 효과는 실제보다 크지 않을 수 있다. 본 연구는 연비규제시에 발생 가능한 문제점의 존재 여부와 그 크기를 개별(disaggregate) 자료를 사용하여 계량경제학적으로 추정하였다. 분석 결과에 따르면 수송부문에서 리바운드 효과는 존재하고 그 크기가 0.299로 나타났다. 이러한 추정치는 정부에서 만약 이러한 반등 효과를 고려하지 않고 정책목표를 설정할 경우, 에너지 소비, 이산화탄소 배출 및 무역수지 등에서 정부에서 제시한 감축 목표치가 29.9% 미달될 수 있음을 의미한다.

On the Drag Reduction of a Passenger Ship with Air Cavity

  • It is known that lubrication effect of an air cavity can reduced a drag of a ship. The present study intends to utilize the phenomena for the drag reduction of a passenger ship now operating in a lake. A scaled model of the model when air cavities are formed under the bottom of the model. Model experiments have been performed to determine adequate air supply rates, proper shapes and locations of air supply nozzles. It is shown that energy saving of mere than 10% can be achieved at the design speed of the ship even after excluding additional power consumed for air supplying. Multiple air supply nozzles, if allocated properly, are more effective than single one in resistance reduction of the ship.

  • The effect of rolling on the charge-discharge property was studied for metal hydride negative electrode. $(LM)Ni_{3.6}Al_{0.4}Co_{0.7}Mn_{0.3}$(pleateau pressure : below 1 atm at room temperature, volume expansion : 9%, entalpy : $8.7kcal/molH_2$) alloy was prepared by arc melting, and then it was coated with various copper weight percent. The copper coated alloys were then rolled with the different reduction ratio. From the results, it was found that the maximum discharge capacity increased with increasing reduction ratio, and 15wt% copper coated sample shows the highest discharge capacity, 324mAh/g, after rolling with 30% reduction ratio. In view of cycle life for the negative electrode, the 15wt% copper coated electrode which was rolled with 13% reduction ratio showed the longest cycle life compared with other electrodes.

  • This paper presents thermal behaviors and performances of a fresh air load reduction system by using earth tube system combined with air-heated solar collector. The earth tube system reduces a fresh air load by heat exchange with soil throughout the year. In the previous experimental research, it was clarified that the earth tube system was very useful as a fresh air load reduction system. However, since outlet temperature of the fresh air which was heated by earth tube system was below 15$^{\circ}C$ in winter, it is not suitable to introduce the fresh air into the place of residence directly. Therefore, a simulation model using the simple heat diffusion equation was used to examine a rising effect of outlet air temperature in winter by combining with air-heated solar collector. An improvement of annual performance by control of operation is also quantitatively examined. In conclusion, it is confirmed that its performance is improved by control of operation throughout the year and outlet air temperature rose by combining with air-heated solar collector.

지하역사내 식생바이오필터의 입자상 오염물질 저감특성 연구 (Study on Particulate Pollutant Reduction Characteristics of Vegetation Biofilters in Underground Subway Stations)

  • Public attention to the indoor environment of underground subway stations, which is a representative multi-use facility, has been increasing along with the increase in indoor activities. In underground stations, fine iron oxide, which affects the health of users, is generated because of the friction between wheels and rails. Among particulate pollutant reduction technologies, plants have been considered as a non-chemical air purification method, and their effects in reducing certain chemical species have been identified in previous studies. The present study aimed to derive the total quantitative and qualitative reduction effects of a bio-filter system comprising air purifying plants, installed in an underground subway station. The experiment proceeded in two ways. First, PM(particulate matter) reduction effect by vegetation biofilter was monitored with the IAQ(indoor air quality) station. In addition, chemical speciation analysis conducted on the samples collected from the experimental and control areas where plants and irrigation using SEM-EDS(scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy). This study confirmed the effect of the vegetation bio-filter system in reducing the accumulation of particulate pollutants and transition and other metals that are harmful to the human body.

  • Effect of $H_2S$ on reactivity of oxygen carrier was measured and discussed using fluidized bed reactor and SDN70 oxygen carrier. We could get 100% of fuel conversion and $CO_2$ selectivity even though $H_2S$ containing simulated syngas was used as fuel for reduction. Absorbed sulfur was released during oxidation and $N_2$ purge step after oxidation as $SO_2$ form. We could get 100% of fuel conversion and $CO_2$ selectivity during cyclic reduction-oxidation tests up to 10th cycle. However, only 6~7% of sulfur can be removed during oxidation and $N_2$ purge step and 93~94% of sulfur was accumulated in the oxygen carrier. Therefore we could conclude that total removal of sulfur was not possible. $SO_2$ emission during oxidation decreased as the number of cycle increased. Therefore we could expect that the reactivity of oxygen carrier will be decreased with time.

건물통합형 PV Solar Roof의 통풍효과 실험분석 (Experimental Analysis of Ventilation Effect on the Performance of Building-Integrated PV Solar Roof)

  • The integration of PV modules into building facades or roof could raise PV module temperature that results in the reduction of electrical power generation. Lowering operating temperature of PV module is important in this respect, and PV module temperature should be considered more accurately, for building-integrated PV(BIPV) systems in predicting their performance. This paper describes a BIPV solar roof design and verifies its performance through experiment In relation to the effect of ventilation in space between PV module and roof surface. The results showed that the ventilation in the space had a positive effect in lowering the module temperature of the BIPV solar roof that enhanced the performance of its electricity generation.

  • This paper is developed to demand management scenario of energy consumption efficiency improvement, electricity generation efficiency improvement, network efficiency improvement, change of distribution ratio, movement of energy source, change of heating system, put of CHP to quantitatively assess to impact on energy use of demand management at the national level. This scenario can be applied Energy System Management model was developed based on Energy Balance Flow. In addition, effect analysis through built demand management scenario was quantitatively evaluated integrated demand management effectiveness of energy cost saving, CO2 emission reduction and energy savings of national level by calculating to primary energy source usage change in terms of integration demand management effect more often than not a single energy source separated electricity, heat and gas.
