  • This paper presents a new approach to derive an energy integral based on an Equivalent Mechanical Model(EMM), which is developed by introducing imaginary springs for line resistances. The proposed EMM shows that phasor currents and voltages are directly analogous to the two-dimensional force and displacement vectors, respectively. Through rigorous energy analysis of the proposed EMM, an exact energy integral expression is derived for multimachine systems, and several useful theorems are developed to derive an energy integral for power systems with detailed generator models the energy integral exactly reflects the internal resistance, saliency and flux-decaying effects of the generator. Finally, an illustrative example is given for a multimachine system adopting the Eq'-model for generators, which shows that the consideration of a detailed generator model does not aggravate the complicacy of the direct method of stability analysis in multimachine systems.

  • Transport lattice codes require the resonance integral tables for the resonant nuclides where the resonance integral is a function of the background cross section and can be prepared through a special program solving the slowing down equation. In case the cross section libraries do not include the resonance integral table for the resonant nuclides, the computational prediction produces a large error. We devised a new method using a Monte Carlo calculation for the effective resonance cross sections to solve this problem provisionally. We extended this method to obtain the resonance integral table for general purpose. The MCNP code is used for the effective resonance integrals and the LIBERTE code for the effective background cross sections. We modified the HELIOS library with the effective cross sections and the resonance integral tables obtained by the newly developed Monte Carlo method, and performed sample calculations using HELIOS and LIBERTE. The results showed that this method is very effective for the resonance treatment.

  • The existence theorem for the operator valued function space integral has been studied, when the wave function was in $L_1(R)$ class and the potential energy function was represented as a double integra [4]. Johnson and Lapidus established the existence theorem for the operator valued function space integral, when the wave function was in $L_2(R)$ class and the potential energy function was represented as an integral involving a Borel measure [9]. In this paper, we establish the existence theorem for the operator valued function we establish the existence theorem for the operator valued function space integral as an operator from $L_1(R)$ to $L_\infty(R)$ for certain potential energy functions which involve double integrals with some Borel measures.

  • Many papers have recently been presented to develop energy functions for power systems. However, earlier studies adopted case-by-case approaches, which failed to give a general approach to deal with various kinds of generator models. In this paper, two useful theorems are developed regarding the integral relationships of the generator power versus its phasor current and voltage. By using the proposed theorems, an exact energy conservation law can be derived from the complex integral. The proposed energy conservation law, which is free of the generator model, can be utilized to develop energy functions for various kinds of generator models including the speed governors and exciters. An illustrative example is given for a multimachine system with the Eq' model of generator. This thesis also shows a possibility of more accurate and fast stability analysis by using the proposed Energy Conservation Law.

  • Wave energy absorption by a flap equipped with a harbor in a water of finite depth is studied. The wave potential is calculated by a hybrid integral equation consisting of Green integral equations associated with Rankine and Kelvin Green functions. The absorbed wave energy is calculated by both the near-field and far-field methods. The present methods can be used for the design of a flap-harbor wave energy absorber since the numerical results by the two methods are in good agreement.

  • The excitation energy transfer process occurring in energy donor-acceptor linked porphyrin array system is theoretically simulated using the on-the-fly filtered propagator path integral method. The compound consists of an energy donating meso-meso linked Zn(II) porphyrin array and an energy accepting 5,15-bisphenylethynylated Zn(II) porphyrin, in which the donor array and the acceptor are linked via a 1,4-phenylene spacer. Real-time path integral simulations provide time-evolution of the site population and the excitation energy transfer rate constants are determined. Simulations and experiments show an excellent agreement indicating that the path integration is a useful tool to investigate the energy transfer dynamics in molecular assemblies.

  • Delamination of multilayered inhomogeneous beam that exhibits non-linear relaxation behavior is analyzed in the present paper. The layers are inhomogeneous in the thickness direction. The dealamination crack is located symmetrically with respect to the mid-span. The relaxation is treated by applying a non-linear stress-straintime constitutive relation. The material properties which are involved in the constitutive relation are distributed continuously along the thickness direction of the layer. The delamination is analyzed by applying the J-integral approach. A time-dependent solution to the J-integral that accounts for the non-linear relaxation behavior is derived. The delamination is studied also in terms of the time-dependent strain energy release rate. The balance of the energy is analyzed in order to obtain a non-linear time-dependent solution to the strain energy release rate. The fact that the strain energy release rate is identical with the J-integral value proves the correctness of the non-linear solutions derived in the present paper. The variation of the J-integral value with time due to the non-linear relaxation behavior is evaluated by applying the solution derived.

  • To improve safety analysis technology for a nuclear reactor containment considering an interaction between a reactor coolant system (RCS) and containment, this study aims at an experimental investigation on the integrated simulation of the RCS and containment, with an integral effect test facility, ATLAS-CUBE. For a realistic simulation of a pressure and temperature (P/T) transient, the containment simulation vessel was designed to preserve a volumetric scale equivalently to the RCS volume scale of ATLAS. Three test cases for a steam line break (SLB) transient were conducted with variation of the initial condition of the passive heat sink or the steam flow direction. The test results indicated a stratified behavior of the steam-gas mixture in the containment following a high-temperature steam injection in prior to the spray injection. The test case with a reduced heat transfer on the passive heat sink showed a faster increase of the P/T inside the containment. The effect of the steam flow direction was also investigated with respect to a multi-dimensional distribution of the local heat transfer on the passive heat sink. The integral effect test data obtained in this study will contribute to validating the evaluation methodology for mass and energy (M/E) and P/T transient of the containment.
