  • The transition from fossil to renewable energy is inevitable due to fossil depletion. So, Renewable energy is very important for energy security and economic growth although it's R&D is long-term and high risky project. We propose new valuation method which combined system dynamics and compound real option method for long-term and high risk projects such as renewable energy. This method can show dynamic valuation results for the complex causal interaction and be easy for Monte-Carlo simulation to estimate volatility. And it can reflect the value of flexible decision for uncertainty. We applied the empirical analysis for Korea's photovoltaic industry by using this method. As results by empirical analysis, photovoltaic's R&D has high valuation using this method compared by traditional valuation methods such as DCF.

  • The pre-emphasis is an essential process for speech signal processing. Widely used two methods are the typical method using a fixed value near unity and te optimal method using the autocorrelation ratio of the signal. This study proposes a new pre-emphasis method using the short-term energy difference of speech signal, which can effectively compensate the glottal source characteristics and lip radiation characteristics. Using the proposed pre-emphasis, speech analysis, such as spectrum estimation, formant detection, is performed and the results are compared with those of the conventional two pre-emphasis methods. The speech analysis with 5 single vowels showed that the proposed method enhanced the spectral shapes and gave nearly constant formant frequencies and could escape the overlapping of adjacent two formants. comparison with FFT spectra had verified the above results and showed the accuracy of the proposed method. The computational complexity of the proposed method reduced to about 50% of the optimal method.

  • In renewable energy system such as flywheel energy storage system, wind power and solar power, the motor/generator is the important key for offering the electric energy to the electric loads. For example, the heavy and large flywheel is rotated by electromagnetic torque of pemanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) and, in case of a breakdown of electric current, the PMSM used as generator supplies electric energy for the various electric utilities using mechanical rotation energy of the flywheel. Thus, design of a motor/generator should be performed in effort to reduce cogging torque and electromagnetic loss for high efficiency. In our paper, a slotless permanent magnet synchronous motor/generator (SPMSM/G) with output power 15kW at the rotor speed 18000rpm is designed from electromagnetic analysis and dynamic performance analysis. In analytical approach, design parameters such as back electro-motive force (back EMF), inductance and electromagnetic torque are derived from analytical method which is one of the electromagnetic analysis method. And using the design parameters, this paper deal with system design considering the driving characteristics and electric load in required power. Finally, the analytical results are verified by the experiment and finite element method (FEM).

  • In the performance based seismic design method such as the capacity spectrum method, it is required to estimate precisely strength, deformability and energy dissipation of the member. However it merely depends on empirical equations which are not exact in the estimation of energy dissipation capacity. It is same to the generously used computer programs for nonlinear analysis such as DRAIN-2DX. On the other hand, simple equations for evaluating energy dissipation were developed in a recent study, In this paper, based on the evaluation method, a new cyclic behavior model for a flexure-dominated RC member is proposed. Although this model is simplified, it can accurately reflect the variation of energy dissipation capacity with design parameters. Using this model, a program for the nonlinear static/dynamic analysis of RC moment frame structures is also developed.

  • Nonlinear dynamic system under random excitation was analyzed by using stochastic method. A linearization method was used in order to linearize non-linear structural characteristics but the parametric excitation was used as it was given. An equivalent energy method which equalizes the expectation value of energy of the original nonlinear system and that of quasi-linearized system was proposed. Ito's differential rule was applied to obtain steady state moments. Quasi-linearization coefficients can be obtained the iterative calculation of linearization scheme and steady state moments. Monte Carlo simulation was used to verify the results of the proposed method. Nonlinear vibration of a slender beam was analyzed in this research. The analysis results were compared with Monte Carlo simulation result and showed good agreement. As the spectral density of the given excitation increased, the analysis results showed the better agreement with Monte Carlo simulation.

  • A new method is developed for the measurement of twist angles of LC molecules in an LC panel with angular resolution of 0.01degree, which allows measurement of LC panels with small twist angles. The method is based on the analysis of the change in polarization state of a light beam as it passes through the LC panel in test is rotated in-plane. Compared to other traditional method, including the analysis of transmittance change, our method is more sensitive and more precise. This method allows accurate determination of anchoring energy and close analysis of the rubbing process in the fabrication of IPS mode LC panels.

  • The transient phenomenon of self-powered energy-harvesting is assessed using a bond-graph method. The bond-graph is an energy-based approach to describing physical-dynamic systems. It shows power flow graphically, which helps us understand the behavior of complicated systems in simple terms. Because energy-harvesting involves conversion of power in mechanical form to the electrical one, the bond-graph is a good tool to analyze this power flow. Although the bond-graph method can be used to calculate the dynamics of combining mechanical and electrical systems simultaneously, it has not been used for harvesting analysis. We demonstrate the usability and versatility of bond-graph for not only steady analysis but also transient analysis of harvesting.

  • We performed an importance analysis of In-Service Testing (157) components for Ulchin Unit 3 using the integrated evaluation method for categorizing component safety significance developed in this study. The developed method is basically aimed at having a PSA expert perform an importance analysis using PSA and its related information. The importance analysis using the developed method is initiated by ranking the component importance using quantitative PSA information. The importance analysis of the IST components not modeled in the PSA is performed through the engineering judgment, based on the expertise of PSA, and the quantitative and qualitative information for the 157 components. The PSA scope for importance analysis includes not only Level 1 and 2 internal PSA but also Level 1 external and shutdown/low power operation PSA. The importance analysis results of valves show that 167 (26.55%) of the 629 IST valves are HSSCs and 462 (73.45%) are LSSCs. Those of pumps also show that 28 (70%)of the 40157 pumps are HSSCs and 12 (30%) are LSSCs.

  • This paper proposed a multi-objective optimization method for building energy system design using primary energy consumption and initial cost. The designing of building energy systems is a complex task, because life cycle cost and efficiency of building are determined by decisions of engineer during the early stage of design. Therefore, methods such as pareto analysis that can generate various alternatives for decision making are necessary. In this study, the optimization is performed using the NSGAII and case study was carried out for feasibility of the proposed method. As a result, alternative solutions can be obtained for the optimal building energy system design.
