  • Modelling the energy release performance of energetic material combustion in closed systems is of fundamental importance for aerospace and defense application. In particular, to compensate for the disadvantage of the combustion of single energetic material and maximize the benefits, a method of combusting the mixed energetic materials is used. However, since complicated heat transfer occurs when the energetic material is combusted, it is difficult to theoretically predict the combustion performance. Here, we suggest a theoretical model to estimate the energy release performance of mixed energetic material based on the model for the combustion performance of single energetic material. To confirm the effect of parameters on the model, and to gain insights into the combustion characteristics of the energetic material, we studied parameter analysis on the reaction temperature and the characteristic time scales of energy generation and loss. To validate the model, model predictions for mixed energetic materials are compared to experimental results depending on the amount and type of energetic material. The comparison showed little difference in maximum pressure and the reliability of the model was validated. Finally, we hope that the suggested model can predict the energy release performance of single or mixed energetic material for various types of materials, as well as the energetic materials used for validation.

  • Energetic monomers with new design concept were synthesized for energetic prepolymers. Novel energetic monomers consisted of ring-opening polymerizable oxirane and a molecular explosive moiety instead of small explosophores as energetic functional groups. According to the design concept, glycidyl dinitroazetidine (GDNAZ) and glycidyl nitroazetidinol(GNAZO) energetic monomers were synthesized, respectively, and characterized by NMR, EA and GC MS. Heat of formation and detonation performance were calculated by theoretical method to evaluate energy performance of these novel energetic monomers. The result revealed that GDANZ and GNAZO possessed high potential as new energetic monomers for synthesizing energetic prepolymers and binders in PBXs.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine how collectivism in a football team context influences on team performance. Specifically, we investigated the mediating role of energetic relation in the process that collectivism generates team performance. This study focused on the K League teams, the highest professional football competition in South Korea and how collectivism affects team performance as well as the role of energetic relations in mediating between collectivism and team performance. The data were collected from 280 players registered in 10 K League teams and 24 of them were excluded due to incomplete questionnaires. Therefore, 240 questionnaires were finally used for the data analysis. The data were processed with SPSS WIN 21.0 and Lisrel 9. Frequency Analysis, Exploratory Factor Analysis, Reliability Analysis, Correlation Analysis, Regression Analysis, Confirmatory Factor Analysis and Structural Equation Model were used. The following results were obtained: first, collectivism had a positive effect on team performance. Second, energetic relation had a positive effect on team performance. Third, energetic relation fully mediated the relationship between collectivism and team performance.

  • For the purpose of the increase in the performance and thermal stability of PBX's, the mixed formal consisting of BDNPF, DNPBF and BDNBF were synthesized. In order to find out the optimal condition for the synthesis of energetic plasticizer, BDNPF, DNPBF and BDNBF, the synthetic procedures have been investigated. We synthesized DNP-OH and DNB-OH through oxidative nitration and controlled various composition of mixed formal by $H_{2}SO_{4}$ and s-trioxane to investigate optimal composition, and then characterized its thermo-physical properties.

  • Thermoplastic polyurethane elastomer(PU-TPE) and energetic thermoplastic polyurethane Elastomer(E-PU-TPE) were prepared from Hexamethylene diisocyanate(HDI), 1,4-BD/AA ester polyol and glycidyl azide polymer(GAP-2400) as an energetic material by the addition polymerization. The PU-TPE and E-PU-TPE were characterized by FT-IR and GPC. Viscometer, DSC and UTM were used to investigate the viscose behavior with a various solvent, thermal properties and mechanical properties of PU-TPE and E-PU-TPE, which are of potential interest for the development of high performance binder of energetic solid propellants. It was found that $M_w$ of PU-TPE and E-PU-TPEs are over 100,000 and decreased with increase of GAP-2400 contents. $T_m$ and ${\Delta}H$ as thermal properties decreased and also tensile strength and elongation at break as mechanical properties decreased with increase of GAP-2400 contents.

  • The confinement degradation of the energetic particles during RMP would be a key issue in success of realizing the successful energy production using fusion plasma, because a 3.5 MeV energetic alpha particle should be able to sustain the burning plasma after the ignition. As KSTAR recent results indicate the generation of high-performance plasma(${\beta}_p{\sim}3$), the confinement of the energetic particles is also an important key aspect in neutral beam driven plasma. In general, the measured absolute value of the neutron intensity is generally used for to estimating the confinement time of energetic particles by comparing it with the theoretical value based on transport calculations. However, the availability of, but for its calculation process, many accurate diagnostic data of plasma parameters such as thermal and incident fast ion density, are essential to the calculation process. In this paper, the time evolution of the neutron signal from an He3 counter during the beam blank has permitted to facilitate the estimation of the slowing down time of energetic particles and the method is applied to investigate the fast ion effect on ELM suppressed KSTAR plasma which is heated by high energy deuterium neutral beams.

  • This paper describes the formulation and properties of a recently developed energetic thermoplastic (ETPE) propellant, which is composed of 45% of newly synthesized glycidyl azide polymer, energetic plasticizer (DEGDN) and nitramine oxidizer (RDX). Compared to conventional thermoplastic propellants, the new ETPE propellant showed approximately 7% higher performance and exhibited similar mechanical properties but a lower burn rate and a higher pressure exponent.

  • N-Guanylurea dinitramide (GUDN) is an energetic material with low sensitivities and good performance for use as propellants or insensitive munitions explosives. The efficient synthesis and characterization of high energy density material of GUDN is reported. GUDN was characterized spectroscopically as well as elemental analysis. In addition, the heats of formation were calculated with the Gaussian 09 suite of programs. For initial safety testing, the impact sensitivity and the friction sensitivity were tested following BAM procedure.

  • Current research trends of prediction of possible structures, synthesis and explosive characteristics of polynitrogen molecules(PNs) are reviewed. Theoretically PNs are composed only of nitrogen atoms, in which N-N bonds are either single or double bonds, and thus when these molecules decompose, release of enormous energy is accompanied. From the middle of 20th century energetic material chemists have been seeking possible structures and the methods of synthesis of these new materials. As a results, from $N_4$ to $N_{60}$ together with their ions are predicted, and experimental chemists have been trying to synthesize these materials with a few success, including the famous ${N_5}^+$ ion in 1999. Although experimental successes are very rare beyond $N_5$ until today, the author believes that renovative ideas together with sincere efforts will bring someday next generation of high energy materials such as nitrogen fullerene($N_{60}$) in reality.

  • Phase change in combustion of energetic materials happens inevitably. The product gas generated by combustion is at extreme temperature and pressure state. The interaction between a gas and metal generates high strain rate deformation and complex wave phenomena. In order to perform combustion simulation containing phase changes, we develop an elegant model for phase change and provide a proof of performance via vapor explosion example.
