The current study focuses on the effect of the end shape of steel pipe piles on installation effort and bearing resistance using the pressing method of installation under dense ground conditions. The effect of pile rotation on the installation effort and bearing resistance is also investigated. The model steel piles with a flat end, cone end and cutting-edge end were used in this study. The test results indicated that cone end pile with the pressing method of installation required the least installation effort (load) and showed higher ultimate resistance than flat and cutting-edge end piles. However, pressing and rotation during cutting-edge end pile installation considerably reduces the installation effort (load and torque) if pile penetration in one rotation equal to the cutting-edge depth. Inclusion of rotation during pile installation reduces the ultimate bearing resistance. However, if penetration of the cutting-edge end pile equal to the cutting-edge depth in one rotation, the reduction in ultimate resistance can be minimized. In comparing the cone and cutting-edge end piles installed with pressing and rotation, the least installation effort is observed in the cutting-edge end pile installed with penetration rate equal to the cutting-edge depth per rotation.
A typical statistical parametric speech synthesis (text-to-speech, TTS) system consists of separate modules, such as a text analysis module, an acoustic modeling module, and a speech synthesis module. This causes two problems: 1) expert knowledge of each module is required, and 2) errors generated in each module accumulate passing through each module. An end-to-end TTS system could avoid such problems by synthesizing voice signals directly from an input string. In this study, we implemented an end-to-end Korean TTS system using Google's Tacotron, which is an end-to-end TTS system based on a sequence-to-sequence model with attention mechanism. We used 4392 utterances spoken by a Korean female speaker, an amount that corresponds to 37% of the dataset Google used for training Tacotron. Our system obtained mean opinion score (MOS) 2.98 and degradation mean opinion score (DMOS) 3.25. We will discuss the factors which affected training of the system. Experiments demonstrate that the post-processing network needs to be designed considering output language and input characters and that according to the amount of training data, the maximum value of n for n-grams modeled by the encoder should be small enough.
This study proposes an Architecture for user level End-to-end Quality of Service(QoS) using overlay In Next Generation Network(NGN). Inexisting NGNs, the IMS of a control plane provides user QoS through direct traffic control and resource-reservation over the IP packet transport network of a user plane. Further, a set of torrent studies are ongoing not only to maximize the QoS for users, but also to minimize the quality deterioration for supporting the user End-to-end QoS. Along with that, an extended QoS in user level must be considered, for Instance, differentiating service quality to support users' expectation, providing optimized contents by users' equipments, and so forth. Accordingly, the Overlay Service Network Architecture proposed by this study provides protocol adaptation for maximum throughput on transport layer by using the most efficient transport layer protocol to various network circumstances. Also, the Overlay Service Network Architecture on application layer distributes processing delay from the data transformation process of the user equipment to the network, and it is capable of intermediate processing depending on user service level. application service feature, and equipment circumstance as well. Thus, this study mainly proposes the Overlay Service Network Architecture for user level end-to-end QoS in NGN with the quality control features both on the transport layer and the application layer, an internal component feature, and a service scenario providing the QoS linking with 3GPP.
Wi-Fi Round-trip timing (RTT) based location estimation technology estimates the distance between the user and the AP based on the transmission and reception time of the signal. This is because reception instability and signal distortion are greater than that of a Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) based fingerprint in an indoor NLOS environment, resulting in a large position error due to multipath fading. To solve this problem, in this paper, we propose an end-to-end based WiFi Trilateration Net (WTN) that combines neural network-based RTT correction and trilateral positioning network, respectively. The proposed WTN is composed of an RNN-based correction network to improve the RTT distance accuracy and a neural network-based trilateral positioning network for real-time positioning implemented in an end-to-end structure. The proposed network improves learning efficiency by changing the trilateral positioning algorithm, which cannot be learned through differentiation due to mathematical operations, to a neural network. In addition, in order to increase the stability of the TOA based RTT, a correction network is applied in the scanning step to collect reliable distance estimation values from each RTT AP.
The effects of actively stimulating devices (ASD) on juvenile flatfish escape were studied to increase escape rates from the cod end by encouraging fish to approach the net wall. Two kinds of ASD were designed: a fluttering net panel, i.e., a free-end flag-like net panel, and a double conical rope array. Escape responses of juvenile bastard halibut were observed in a circulating water channel using two model cod ends, one made with diamond-shaped 43-mm-mesh-size polyethylene (PE) as a high-contrast cod end and the other with polyamid (PA) mono-ply as a low-contrast cod end. Retention rate was significantly lower with the double conical rope-array ASD in the PE cod end than with conventional PE cod ends only or the fluttering net-panel ASD inside the PE cod end. Mean retention rate with the low-contrast PA cod end was also significantly lower than that with the high-contrast PE conventional cod end. Therefore, active fluttering devices using a double conical rope array together with less visible low-contrast netting in the cod end could help to reduce the bycatch of juvenile flatfish by weakening their optomotor response and actively driving fish to the side net panel.

Studies on ski-end shape control at the top end of rolling plate in heavy thick plate mill by using FEM analysis and measuring system have been performed. Plate shape behaviour at the top-end on rolling by the two different methods in finishing rolling process has been observed. One is to minimize the height of ski-end by using pass line based on the relational model between shape factor and pick-up and the other one is to prevent turn down problem caused by the impact between table roller and down bended plate on rolling by using roll speed difference. To minimize the height of ski-end, the prediction models based on the FEM analysis and measuring data was developed. The control method of ski - end shape on finishing rolling process was applied in actual mill and the height of ski-end was reduced by about 50% compared with conventional operation.
A finite analytic(FA) numerical study was performed to determin'e flow dynamics in the vicinity of an end-to-end anastomosis. Experimental data of instantaneous lumen cross-section were used to simulate steady flow through an end-to-end anastomosis In order to solve the governing axisymmetric Wavier-Stokes equations. Wall shear stresses increased proximal to the anastomosis In flow from the Penrose tubing to the PTFE graft. In flow the PTFE graft to the Penrose tubing, low wall shear stresses were observed distal to the anastomosis. The present study suggests a correlation betweerl regions of low wall shear stress and the do velopment of pnastomotic neointimal fibrous hyperplasia(ANFH ) in end-to-end anastomoses.
In recent years, distributed control systems(DCS) using fieldbus such as CAN have been applied to process systems but it is very difficult to design the DCS while guaranteeing the given end-to-end constraints such as precedence constraints, time constraints, and periods and priorities of tasks and messages. This paper presents a scheduling method to guarantee the given end-to-end constraints considering aperiodic, periodic and non-real-time message and task simultaneously. The presented scheduling method is the integrated one considering both tasks executed in each node and messages transmitted via the network and is designed to be applied to a general DCS that has multiple loops with several types of constraints, where each loop consists of sensor nodes with multiple sensors, actuator nodes with multiple actuators and controller nodes with multiple tasks.
Researches about scheduling distributed real-time systems have some weak points, not scheduling both sporadic and periodic tasks and messages or being unable to guaranteeing the end-to-end constraints due to omitting precedence relations between sporadic tasks. This paper describes the application model of sporadic tasks with precedence constraints in a distributed real-time system. It is shown that existing scheduling methods such as Rate Monotonic scheduling are not proper to be applied to the system having sporadic tasks with precedence constraints. So this paper proposes an end-to-end laxity-based priority assignment algorithm which considers the practical laxity of a task and allocates a proper priority to a task.
An extended end-plate connection displays different behavioral properties and energy dissipation capacity based on the thickness and length of the end-plate comprising the connection in the form of a beam-to-column moment connection, the number and diameter of the high strength bolt, the gauge distance of the high strength bolt, and the size and length of the welds. Such extended end-plate is applied to beam-to-column connections in various geometric forms in the US and European regions. Currently in Korea, however, the extended end-plate beam-to-column connection is not actively applied due to the lack of proper design formulas, the evaluation of the energy dissipation capacity, and the provision of construction guidelines. Accordingly, this study was conducted to provide the basic data for the proposal of a prediction model of energy dissipation capacity by evaluating the energy dissipation capacity of unstiffened extended end-plate connections with relatively thin end plate thicknesses. To achieve this, a three-dimensional nonlinear finite element analysis has been conducted on unstiffened extended end-plate connections, with the thickness of the end plate as the set variable.
