  • The genus Epitetracnemus Girault, 1915 is reported for the first time from Korea. A new species, E. kosef Li et Byun sp. norm. is described. The species is internal parasitoid wasp on Pseudaulacaspis cockerelli(Cooley) which infests on Taxus cuspidata S. et Z.

  • The oviposition behavior of Ooencyrtus kuvanae (Howard) (Hymenoptera: Encyridae) was examined in a small petri dish containing eggs of gypsy moth, Lymantrt'a dt'spar L. The behavioral sequence from initial searching movement toward the host egg through oviposition, departure, and auxiliary phase activities such as resting, glooming, and host feeding were described. Oviposition experience shortened the approach time to subsequent eggs. The time spent for contacting the host egg also decreased with oviposition experience. Oviposition experience may play an important role in host recognition and increasing oviposition efficiency.

  • The article contains a list with comments of fifteen species of economically important family Encyrtidae known from Korean peninsula. Of these, four species, Cerchysius subplanus (Dalman), Copidosoma floridanum (Ashmead), Homalotylus flaminius (Dalman) and Prionomitus tiliaris (Dalman), were collected in the North Korea by Hungarian entomologists. Three species, Coccidencyrtus steinbergi Tshumakova et Trjapitzin, Neodiscodes sp. and Thomsonbca shutovae (Trjapitzin), were recorded from the North Korea by Russian specialists.

  • Seasonal occurrence of the egg parasitoid of bugs, Ooencyrtus nezarae (Hymenoptera: Encyrtidae), was monitored at soybean fields and university campus using traps baited with aggregation pheromone of bean bug, Riptortus clavatus, in Jinju, Gyeongnam province, Korea. The female O. nezarae captured at university campus in 2003 and 2004 was 317.5 and 103.4 times as many as males, respectively, and it was 12.6 times at soybean field in 2004. The female began to occur from late August, showing its peak around September 20 at soybean field in 2004. At university campus in 2003 and 2004, the female began to occur from mid or late August, and showed its peak early or mid September. At the two monitoring sites the catches of female sharply declined after October The E2HZ3H only showed attractiveness to O. nezarae, among three components of the aggregation pheromone of bean bug, (E)-2-hexenyl (Z)-3-hexenoate (E2HZ3H), (E)-2-hexenyl (E)-2-hexenoate (E2HE2H), and myristyl isobutyrate (MI). A mixture in a ratio of 20:20:10 or 16.7:16.7:16.7 of E2HZ3H:E2HE2H:MI attracted significantly more females than the mixture of 7:36:7 ratio did. This higher attractiveness of the former two blends may be attributed to the higher amounts of E2HZ3H in the blends.

  • Male adults of bean bug, Riptortus clavatus Thunberg (Heteroptera: Alydidae), release aggregation pheromone (AP) attracting both sexes of adult and nymphs, which its egg parasite, Ooencyrtus nezarae (Hymenoptera: Encyrtidae) exploits the pheromone to find host. The AP consists of three components; (E)-2-hexenyl (Z)-3-hexenoate (E2HZ3H), (E)-2-hexenyl (E)-2-hexenoate (E2HE2H), and tetradecyl isobutyrate (TI). We analyzed composition of the pheromone components of bean bugs from different geo graphical locations of Korea and Japan. The attractiveness of different blends of AP components to R. clavatus was also tested in the fields in Jinju, Korea and in Kumamoto, Japan. Composition ratios (E2HZ3H: E2HE2H:TI) of the AP of Jinju and Iksan populations were 1:1.4:0.2 and 1:0.8:0.2, and those of Tsukuba and Kumamoto populations were 1:2.8:0.2 and 1:1.5:0.1, respectively. In field tests, traps baited with ratio of 1:1:1 (E2HZ3H:E2HE2H:TI=16.7:16.7:16.7mg/rubber septum) and 1:1:0.5(E2HZ3H:E2HE2H:TI= 20:20:10mg/rubber septum) attracted significantly greater number of adult bugs than that of 1:5:1 (E2HZ3H:E2HE2H:TI=7.1:35.7:7.1mg/rubber septum).

  • The populations of Riptortus pedestris (Fabricius) cause serious economic damages in local apple orchards. However, there was no study to manage its populations with environment friendly tactics. Thus, this study was conducted to analyze its attraction effects of one of R. pedestris aggregation pheromone compounds, (E)-2-hexenyl (Z)-3hexenoate (E2HZ3H), to its parasitoids, Ooencyrtus nezarae (Ishii) and Gryon japonicum (Ashmead). This compound did not increase the number of these two parasitoids and change its spatial distribution. However, this compound could attract two parasitoids within limited distance. These results indicates that one compound of R. pedestris aggregation pheromone, E2HZ3H, could be a good candidate to manage R. pedestris populations in conditions that its populations locally occurs in apple orchards.

  • The occurrence of Anagyrus kamali, a solitary endoparasite of the mealybug, Maconellicoccus hirsutus has been reported for the first time from India. The parasitoid was fecund to parasitizing the field population of mealybug to the tune of 10.37 to 42.70% in different months. A comprehensive study on the development of the parasitoid on different stages of mealybug indicated that the parasitoid was able to complete its development in all the stages. Higher parasitism (67.48-78.08%) and more female progeny were observed when 3rd instar nymphs and adult female of the mealybug were exposed to the parasitoid. The biology of A. kamali studied at 25${\pm}1^{\circ}C$ temperature and 60${\pm}$$\pm$1.12 days. The duration of egg, larva (3 instars) and pupa were 2.67${\pm}$${\pm}$${\pm}$${\pm}$

  • This study was conducted to investigate the species of native parasitoids attacking Phyllocnistis citrella and their parasitism in citrus orchards in Jeju, Korea. During the survey period from 2013 to 2014, seven parasitoids belonging to Chalcidoidea were found: majority of the parasitoids were Sympiesis striatipes with 73% and Quadrastichus sp. with 22% in Eulophidae. The others were Neochrysocharis sp., Pnigalio sp., Holcopelte sp., Ageniaspis sp. (Encyrtidae) and Trichomalopsis sp. (Pteromalidae). Average parasitism rate reached 10.7% in orchards with spraying insecticide, and 32.2% in environmental-friendly managed orchards.

  • Two hymenopteran egg parasitoid species, Gryon japonicum (Ashmead) (Scelionidae) and Ooencyrtus nezarae Ishii (Encyrtidae), were emerged from eggs of bean bug, Riptortus clavatus Thunberg (Heteroptera: Alydidae). The former parasitoid is first recorded in Korea. Brief morphological and biological characteristics, and parasitism on R. clavatus eggs are described.
