Indoor positioning is considered an enabler for a variety of applications, the demand for an indoor positioning service has also been accelerated. That is because that people spend most of their time indoor environment. Meanwhile, the smartphone integrated powerful camera is an efficient platform for navigation and positioning. However, for high accuracy indoor positioning by using a smartphone, there are two constraints that includes: (1) limited computational and memory resources of smartphone; (2) users' moving in large buildings. To address those issues, this paper uses the TC-OFDM for calculating the coarse positioning information includes horizontal and altitude information for assisting smartphone camera-based positioning. Moreover, a unified representation model of image features under variety of scenarios whose name is FAST-SURF is established for computing the fine location. Finally, an optimization marginalized particle filter is proposed for fusing the positioning information from TC-OFDM and images. The experimental result shows that the wide location detection accuracy is 0.823 m (1σ) at horizontal and 0.5 m at vertical. Comparing to the WiFi-based and ibeacon-based positioning methods, our method is powerful while being easy to be deployed and optimized.

A cluster tool for semiconductor manufacturing is an integrated device that consists of several single wafer processing modules and a wafer transport module based on a robot. The distributed module controllers are integrated by an inter-module communication network and coordinated by a centralized controller, called a cluster tool controller (CTC). Since the CTC monitors and coordinates the distributed complex module controllers for advanced process control, complex commuication messaging and services between the CTC and the module controllers are required. A SEMI standard, CTMC(Cluster Tool Module Communication), specifies application-level communication service requirements for inter-module communication. We propose the use of high-level fieldbuses, for instance. PROFIBUS-FMS, for implementing CTMC since the high-level fieldbuses are well suited for complex real-time distributed manufacturing control applications. We present a way of implementing CTMC using PROFIBUS-FMS as the communication enabler. We first propose improvements of a key object of CTMC for material transfer and the part transfer protocol to meet the functional requirements of modem advanced cluster tools. We also discuss mapping objects and services of CTMC to PROFIBUS-FMS communication objects and services. Finally, we explain how to implement the mappings.

A system for providing a distributed device resource-object-connection service based on a service delivery platform (SDP) is described. The system includes an SDP and proxy. The SDP configures to define distributed service functions as enablers, generates a convergence service by combining the enablers, and provides the generated convergence service. The proxy configures to connect a distributed device and an SDP to allow the SDP to use the distributed device as a resource, and define and use the distributed device as an enabler. The system are capable of defining distributed service functions as well as distributed sensors as enablers, and thereby allowing the distributed sensors to be used in the same sense as service-function enablers.

Manufacturing today is becoming increasingly competitive. If a company is to exist and successfully compete, it must pay very careful attention to production management, total quality assurance and total proactive maintenance issues. Overall machine performance, repair efficiency, system level utilization, productivity and quality of output need to be optimized as possible. To accomplish that objective, the behavior of manufacturing equipment and systems need to be monitored and measured continuously if it is possible. Then early warning of possible failure should be generated and proacted on that type of the situation to improve overall operation performance of manufacturing environment. In this paper, Proactive maintenance framework using performance-based reliability structure as enabler technology is proposed. Its paradigm enables one to maximize system through-put and product quality as well as resources in the performance domain. In the case of inadequate knowledge of the failure mechanics, this empirical modeling concept along with performance degradation knowledge can serve as an important product and process improvement tool. The real-time framework extension to proposed framework uses on-line performance information and is capable of projecting the remaining useful period.

Integrity plays a fundamental role in the feasibility of 'liability critical' applications. Road charging, e.g. road tolling in urban zones or on highways, represents a series of liability critical applications where a guarantee in integrity could be a true enabler: being the mechanism that prevents the incorrect charging of users and enabling the advancement of these applications using GNSS such as Galileo and EGNOS that provide integrity mechanisms. However, the integrity of the end user position is not guaranteed by the EGNOS and Galileo integrity services alone as provided. Algorithms have been developed to supply a guarantee on the performance attainable at the user level through the provision of a horizontal protection level that responds to local user conditions such as multipath or interference. In addition, an application has been developed that implements road charging mechanisms based on the availability of user-level integrity. Results obtained show that the user-level integrity algorithms provided the required level of integrity guarantee and granularity of the horizontal protection levels necessary for executing urban and rural (highway) road charging. In addition, the road charging application developed shows that the current application domain requirements can be met through the provision of guaranteed integrity and that further reductions in the horizontal protection levels along with increased signal availability will enable future road charging modalities.
Both the total quality management (TQM) and learning organization (LO) appear to be promising approaches for organizational transformation towards a more effective, efficient, and responsive organization in the past. The evolutionary development and theory supports for these two fields are distinct but they appear to have more in common than they have in distinctiveness. However, there is little synergy developed between these two fields both in academic research and industrial applications. It is possibly due to the fact that both the academia and industry are taking a limiting polarized view of TQM and LO and hence not getting the benefits of linking the two. This paper tries to establish a link between the organizational learning capability and the quality culture for TQM implementation based on a case study on the largest vocational education institution, the Vocational Training Council, of Hong Kong. The study reveals that there is a strong positive correlation between organizational learning capability and quality culture. The exploratory explanations for the links between the organizational learning capability constructs and the quality culture constructs are also discussed in this paper. The findings of the study support other literatures that TQM should be embedded in LO and serves as an enabler for organizational learning (OL) in transforming and creating organizations which continuously expand their abilities to change and shape their future.

For several years, virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technologies have been improving. However, some hurdles remain that slow down the distribution of VR and AR devices, such as head-mounted display (HMD), and related consumer content. One issue is VR motion sickness, which has been experienced by users using 360 degree VR content via HMD. This paper discusses the related international standardization work that classifies the factors causing VR sickness, and proposes the process for VR sickness level evaluation. Among the factors causing VR sickness, many research institutes regard minimizing MTP (Motion-to-Photon) latency as the key enabler to mitigate VR sickness. Thus, this paper introduces research trends of MTP latency measurement and MTP latency mitigation. This paper categorizes the research on MTP latency measurement into 2 categories of hardware-based approach and software code-level approach. The 2 approaches have different pros and cons depending on use-case, purpose, and architecture of each multimedia system. The pros and cons are addressed in this paper. Additionally, the research on mitigating MTP latency with diverse strategies such as proactive computing, caching, and edge server technology is explained, and compared to conventional technologies, shows improved performance.

In modern warfare, the main factor of triumph is superior situation awareness which leads rapid command decision and precisely guided munition, and TDL(Tactical Data Link) is the main communicational enabler. ROK forces currently operate Link-16 with allied forces and are also developing Korean national data link, Link-K which is also planned to be cooperated with Link-16. Assigning participant and track numbers needs agreement between ROK and allied forces, but ROK forces have exclusive authority in assigning numbers in Link-K. This paper proposes the effective method of exchange participant and track numbers between Link-16 and Link-K, and applicability verification in operational test and evaluation will be also presented.
