  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to examine the factors that affect employee satisfaction according to hospital size, job group and career at hospitals. Methods : Data were collected from 4,307 employees working at 5 university hospitals. Statistics were done with the SPSS program version 21.0. Results : There were significant differences in employee satisfaction according to hospital size, job group and career. Additionally, there were positive correlations between each of the factors for employee satisfaction and overall employee satisfaction. Multiple regression analysis showed that overall employee satisfaction was affected by factors such as job, communication, personnel and leadership according to hospital size, job group and career. Conclusions : The results of this study suggest that by identifying the differences in satisfaction of employees who are working in different circumstances and providing resources to satisfy employee needs, hospital employers can promote the growth of the hospital by reducing employee turnover.

The paper includes not only the needs analysis of students but also that of personnel officers of tourism related companies and offices. Since the students will have to look for desirable jobs after graduation, the needs and demands of their potential employers or personnel officers are crucial in deciding what and how to teach. Based on these analyses, the paper also examines the current curriculum offered by the department. The needs, wants and necessities of the students, potential personnel officers, and the current curriculum will have to be taken into consideration in designing a more effective future curriculum. The results of the study reveal that more emphasis should be given on the improvement of students' communicative abilities and TOEIC scores.

This study concerns with the accident characteristics and safety management in the small manufacturing industry. To investigate the accident characteristics, we used workers' compensation reports and employers' accident analysis reports. Two hundred and thirty injury accidents which results in more than 4 days absence were surveyed from the manufacturing companies with under 100 employees. The actual safety problems experienced today in the small manufacturing were also examined by interview method with safety engineers. We propose the safety management programs based on the accident characteristics and the actual safety problems. These results can be used to develop more effective occupational safety and health management policies in the small manufacturing industry.

  • The number of students graduating from accredited programs has been increasing annually since the first students graduated from accredited engineering programs in Korean universities in 2004. In this paper, we evaluate the effect of engineering education accreditation by the Accreditation Board for Engineering Education of Korea (ABEEK). We developed performance evaluation indices based on the balanced scorecard concept and applied the proposed indicators to graduates, faculty, and industry employers to see if there are significant differences between accredited and non-accredited groups. Overall, regardless of survey object, engineering education accreditation was perceived to contribute to the elevation of engineering and science and the level of national growth. However, the differences between accredited and non-accredited groups for some key performance indicators were statistically insignificant. The results of this paper are expected to provide crucial feedback information for the improvement of engineering education accreditation in Korea.

  • This study investigates the relationship between size, illumination ,and display of show window. The average width, heigh, and depth of show windows in Taegu area were 341.3, 233.4, and 125.8cm, respectively. As light source, halogen lamp was most frequently used, followed by fluorescent lamp and incandescence lamp. In the actual illumination, however, a combined use of more than 2 light sources was common. Further, a local illumination method, e.g., spot light, was generally adopted. The thought of employers and employees in fashion shops about display and illumination was examined aw well. On the whole, the necessity and importance of display were well recognized but the fact that the illumination should be hamonized with other factors such as color and arrangement of goods was underestimated.

  • The government policy on the occupational safety and health is the fundamental factor for the effectiveness and efficiency of the accident prevention efforts. However this point of view is comparatively neglected and most of policy in occupational safety and health has not been successful enough in Korea. Thus, this study aims to reduce the accidents at work in Korea through the improvement of the decision-making process on the occupational safety and health policy in Korea. The recommendations are derived from the comparison between the policy decision-making organization and process of Korea and those of other major countries. Capitulated recommendations are: more involvement of professional individuals in the process of policy decision-making; intensive utilization of research institutes; and more openness of the process of policy decision-making to the stakeholders ie, the representatives of employees and employers.

  • The cases of welders illness by welding fume generated during arc welding are recently reported, which makes the legal regulation in the welding work place. Also, this situation makes the employers and welders be concerned about the welding fume seriously. At this point of time it is necessary that a standard testing method is developed as a fundamental tool for the evaluation of Fume Generation Rate(FGR) required for making progress in the development of low fume electrodes and welding process technology and also constructing the ventilation system in welding area. However, the current standard(KS D 0062) is only applicable to the manual covered electrode arc welding. In this study the evaluation procedure for the FGR is established by developing the fume collection chamber which can be applicable to semiautomatic and automatic arc welding as well as manual arc welding. This evaluation system and procedure can be used as a tool not only to develop the low fume welding electrode and welding process technology but also to construct the equipment controlling the welding workshop atmosphere.
