This study is designed to know the influence of emotional labor and social support on burnout of clinical nurses. 199 nurses working in five general hospitals with more than 500 beds in Seoul were sampled. Mean scores for each category were 3.69 for burnout, 3.08 for emotional labor, and 3.44 for social support. There was statistically significant difference between burnout and demographic characteristics, in age, education level, position, and clinical career; there was statistically significant difference between emotional labor and demographic characteristics, in age, working unit and clinical career. Emotional labor was positively correlated with burnout and social support was negatively correlated with burnout. As a result, factor influencing burnout was emotional labor, age, and social support. This predictor accounted for 31.5% of variance in burnout. Therefore, it is necessary to establish strategies to reduce nurses' emotional labor and improve the awareness of social support.

This study is a comparative study on the impacts of workers' emotional labor influencing job stress by health care and the types of hospitals. The research used 387 questionnaires as final assay data, which were obtained by health care workers who work for hospitals or higher-level hospitals located in G-metropolitan city, JD through the direct survey method. The results are as follows. First, after analyzing the difference of emotional labor and job stress in terms of socio-demographic characteristics, there was a significant difference in both general hospital and nursing hospital: In case of general hospitals, a significant difference in emotional labor is shown based on monthly earnings and the years of employment at current hospital, and a significant difference in job stress is shown based on an academic career, the years of employment at current hospital, and the establishment classification. In case of nursing hospitals, there was a significant difference in emotional labor based on an academic career, alcohol use, and monthly earnings. Second, after analyzing the correlation between emotional stress and job stress by the type of hospital, a significant positive correlation is observed at both general hospital and nursing hospital. Third, after comparing the impacts of emotional labor on job stress by the type of hospital, it was shown that emotional labor has a significant positive impact on job stress at both general hospital and nursing hospital.
Purpose - Most studies related to emotional labor have been conducted in the low-contact service industry rather than the high-contact service industry. Since the subjects of this study were golf service assistants, working in an industry in which the interaction and contact between customers and employees are considerable and the degree of customization is high, this study is significant. Thus, we would like to focus on the relationship between the humor style of golf service assistants and emotional labor. Humor style was divided into two styles-adaptive humor and maladaptive humor. Emotional labor was divided into two dimensions-surface acting and deep acting. In addition, we identify the relationship between emotional labor, job satisfaction, and turnover intention. Research design, data, & methodology - This study focuses on the humor styles in the golf service industry, among golf service assistants, on their emotion labor, and verifies the relationship between emotion labor and work satisfaction or job turnover intention. Based on the outcome, a total of four hypotheses were set up. To verify the hypotheses, surveys were conducted on the golf service assistants working in two golf fields in the region of Busan as well as its neighboring area. A total of 250 copies of the questionnaire were distributed. Subsequently, a total of 227 valid questionnaire copies, after excluding improper responses, were used in the analysis. After verifying the reliability and feasibility of variances, Amos 18.0 was used to implement the structure method so as to verify the study hypotheses. As a result of this analysis, the suitability of the entire model was considerably appropriate to the standard value, and the level is adequate to accommodate the study model completely. Results - First, it was found that the adaptive humor of golf service assistants had a positive effect on deep acting and maladaptive humor had a positive effect on surface acting. Second, It was found that employees' satisfaction with their job was reduced through surface acting, and those employees who experienced positive emotional labor in the form of deep acting were more satisfied with their job. Third, surface acting among employees increased turnover intention, but deep acting reduced it. Finally, the relationship between job satisfaction and the turnover intention of golf service assistants in the golf service industry was examined. Conclusions - First, the adaptive humor of the golf assistants in the golf service industry had a positive effect on their expression behavior. Second, deep acting increased their job satisfaction while their surface acting had a noticeably negative effect on their job satisfaction. Third, the surface acting of the emotion labor dimensions that the golf service assistants experience increases their turnover intention while their deep acting decreases their turnover intention. Finally, when analyzing the relationship between job satisfaction and turnover intention of the golf service assistants, it was found that the turnover intention decreased when their job satisfaction is increased.
This research purports to find out the factors that affect the level of emotional labor in dental hygienists. Data were collected from 204 dental hygienists working at 5 university hospitals and 55 dental clinics through self-administered questionnaire, and analyzed by statistical analysis using t-test, ANOVA, and regression analysis. The main findings of the study are as follows: First, the higher the educational level of dental hygienists, and the bigger the size of dental institutions they work, the higher the level of emotional labor of dental hygienists. Second, patient and environmental factors were found to have significant effects on the level of emotional labor. The above results imply that managers should try to make the workplace better environment which can secure appropriate workload and rewards, and support for work related education programs etc. It is also needed to educate the patients in order to prevent unnecessary conflicts between the patients and dental hygienists.
Objectives: This study aims to alleviate dental hygienists' job stress caused by emotional labor, lower their turnover rate, improve the working environment, and offer better quality of services by understanding correlations among emotional labor, job characteristics, job stress, and turnover intention. Methods: A survey was conducted in the subjects with dental hygienists who were working at general hospitals, dental university hospitals, and private dental clinics located in Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Chungnam by the convenience sampling method from June 1 through 30, 2017, and the collected data were analyzed using by SPSS Windows Ver. 22.0 (IBM CO, Armonk, NY, USA) and AMOS 21. As the statistical analysis methods, convergent validity test, structural equation model analysis and model goodness of fit were conducted using independent samples t-test, one-way ANOVA, path analysis, and confirmatory factor analysis. Results: It turned out that the more dental hygienists' deep acting of emotional labor and the more their workload of job characteristics, the higher their job stress got, and that the higher their job stress, the higher their turnover intention got. Conclusions: As a method of lowering dental hygienists' turnover intention, they may resolve emotional disharmony with their own problem-solving method, but it is necessary to develop and support organizational culture for the improvement of working environment. Dental hygienists' organizations should implement the measures to minimize their turnover rate and job stress level by allocating appropriate workload.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship of occupational stress and psychosocial stress to health promotion behaviors depending on characteristics of female office workers and emotional labor workers for sales. Methods: A survey of 207 female service workers engaging in sales of cosmetics in major department stores and 149 females working in the offices of cosmetics companies was carried out using a self-administered questionnaire. Results: It showed a significant difference in job demand and insufficient job control which are sub-domains of stress. The percentage of emotional laborers exposed to a high risk of psychosocial stress was higher than office workers. In office workers, occupational stress stemmed from insufficient job control and low reward of work was significantly related to psychosocial stress. But in emotional labor workers, stress from job insecurity, and organizational system were added. The relevant factors that affect health promotion behaviors were type of occupational stress, psychosocial stress, marital status, educational level and working career. Conclusions: Occupational stress and psychosocial stress were closely associated with health promotion behaviors. It was suggested that the development of health promotion programs which reduce the stress in female office and emotional labor workers.

This study examined (1) what effect emotional labor has on an university library, focusing on (2) the relationship among a supervisor's emotional intelligence, the extent of social support and the level of library service on job performance. The survey period took place from 14 Oct. to 4 Nov. 2013. 533 librarians at 13 public and 28 private university libraries were included in the survey. Of the 533 surveys distributed, 529 were returned and used in the final analysis. SPSS Win 21.0 was used for statistical analysis, factor analysis, regression analysis and differential analysis. The survey also shows that a librarian's emotional labor affects emotional intelligence of supervisor, social support and library service level positively. This finding is not the case for the employees in the general service industry. Because the librarian is professional and manages stress better than general employees. This research suggest the following practical measures. Educational programs for librarian's emotional intelligence should be planned in order to improve library service.

The purpose of this study was to verify the effects of emotional labor on casino dealers' burnout and depression. Burnout is a big problem which thwarts their professionalism and effectualness and the effectiveness of the service they provide. Depression is a core factor which affects one's mental health. To analyze the effects of emotional labor on casino workers' burnout and depression, we conducted a survey of 606 casino dealers of H resort and analyzed the results. Burnout was measured in terms of the client-related burnout and work-related burnout by the Copenhagen Burnout Inventory (CBI), and depression was measured by the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI). The research findings are as follows. First, the level of emotional labor (3.50) was higher than the mid-point on the 4 point Likert scale, and the work-related burnout (3.86) and client-related burnout (3.91) were higher than the mid-point on the 5 point Likert scale. Second, emotional labor was correlated to their depression and burnout. Third, emotional labor showed a significant difference according to gender, while burnout showed significant differences according to age, position and term of service. Fourth, emotional labor had an effect on the casino dealers' burnout and depression. We discussed the implications of these findings and possible strategies to alleviate this situation, for example, the passing of a law and development of an employee assistance program (EAP) to prevent their burnout and reduce their depression.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to construct a structural equation model of organizational commitment in hospital nurses based on a job demands-resources model and to confirm the moderating effect(s) according to the nurses' generation. Methods: The model was constructed of the exogenous variables of social support, emotional intelligence, emotional labor, and job conflict and the endogenous variables of burnout, job engagement, and organizational commitment. The participants were 560 hospital nurses working in 3 general hospitals. Data were collected from August 1 to September 30, 2021, and analyzed using SPSS Window 23.0 and IBM AMOS 23.0. Results: The strongest factor directly influencing hospital nurses' organizational commitment was social support. In a multiple group analysis, nurses' generation had a partial moderating effect. In a generation-specific analysis, the Z generation group was higher than the X and Y generation groups in the variables of emotional labor and burnout related to organizational commitment. Conclusion: Based on the findings of this study, to improve hospital nurses' organizational commitment, social support is needed as an important management strategy. At the organizational level, we need to develop ways to improve organizational commitment by reducing the emotional labor and burnout of Generation Z.
Objective : This study was conducted to determine the emotional labor of occupational therapists and the level of their feelings of depression and to examine the impact of their emotional labor on their depressive mood. Methods : Subjects of this study were clinical occupational therapists working at hospitals and clinics in Seoul and Gyeonggi regions. The factors of emotional labor were set as independent variables, the general characteristic variable and job characteristic variable which showed significant results in the chi-square test was set as the adjusted variable and whether the depression happens or not was set as the dependent variable, after which a multivariate logistic regression analysis was conducted. Results : Components of emotional labor, including frequency of emotional display(OR 1.699, 95% CI 1.202-2.401), attentiveness to required display rules(OR 1.436, 95% CI 1.070-1.982), and emotional dissonance(OR 1.866, 95% CI 1.336-2.607) all had a significant effect on depression. The possibility of depression was significantly higher in women than men(OR 5.736, 95% CI 1.746-18.846), those working for more than 8 hours per day than less than 8 hours per day(OR 8.609, 95% CI 2.306-32.137), and those working with children than those working with adults(OR 4.249, 95% CI 1.668-10.824). Conclusion : This study revealed that the emotional labor that occupational therapists are exposed to while interacting with patients and their caregivers exerts an influence on their feelings of depression. This suggests the need for developing various preventive intervention programs designed to alleviate the depressive symptoms of occupational therapists and formulating appropriate policies.
