Investigation of a New Red-Emitting, Eu3+-Activated MgAl2O4 Phosphor

  • MgAl2O4:Eu3+ red-light emitting powder phosphor was prepared at temperature as low as 500 oC within a few minutes by using the combustion route. The prepared powder was characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and Fourier-transform infrared spectrometry. The luminescence of Eu3+-activated MgAl2O4 shows a strong red emission dominant peak around 611 nm, which can be attributed to the 5D0-7F2 transition of Eu3+ ions from the synthesized phosphor particles under excitation (394 nm). Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) measurements at the X-band showed that no signal could be attributed to Eu2+ ions in MgAl2O4.

Metal Concentrations in atmospheric particulate from seoul and asan, in Korea

  • Daily average concentrations of fine particulates have been measured simultaneously in Seoul and Asan area by using PM minivolTM portable air sampler(Air Metrics, U.S.A) from September 2001 to August 2002. The sampler were analyzed by ICP-OES(inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry, optima 3000DV, Perkin Elmor) to determine the fine particulate concentrations of metallic elements(As, Mn. Ni, Fe, Cr, Cu, Cd, Pb, Zn, Si). The concentration of PM$\sub$2.5/ showed a high trend in the Seoul area. Zn showed a similar distribution ratio for the fine particle in both Seoul and Asan. Mn and Fe, Cr, Cd are highly correlated in the Seoul and Asan area(P<0.05).

한약재내 중금속 함량분석 및 물세척 효과 (Determination of Heavy Metal Contents in Oriental Medical Materials and the Effect of Washing)

  • 쌍화탕의 재료로 사용되는 9가지 한약재에 함유된 6가지 인체에 유해한 중금속 함유량은 생강과 당귀의 경우 식약청 기준치인 30ppm의 1.47배와 1.24배 이었고 기타 한약재는 기준치와 거의 동등하거나5% 이내에서 초과하였다. 가장 간단한 수치법인 물세 척 만으로 중금속이 20-38% 제거되었고 따라서 모든 실험 대상 약재 에 대하여 중금속 함량을 식약청 기준치보다 낮출 수 있었다.

청둥오리알중 미량광물질의 함량 분포 (Distribution of the trace minerals in the wild duck egg)

  • This study was carried out to quantify 11 trace minerals including Ca in wild duck egg, focused on health-aid-food, with Inductively Coupled Argon Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometry(ICAPS). It showed the highest levels of P, Fe, Zn and Cu in egg yolk compared with those of another constituents in wild duck egg. In egg white, the trace mineral levels were demonstrated K 1096 ppm, Na 1666 ppm, respectively. Therefore the levels of K, Na are considerably high. The contents of Ca and Mg are conspicuously high in egg shell respectively. The essential minerals such as Co, Cr and Mn were trace in all constituent of wild duck egg, respectively.

  • In this study, BST thin films were etched with inductively coupled $CF_4/(Cl_2+Ar)$ plasmas. The etch characteristics of BST thin films as a function of $CF_4/(Cl_2+Ar)$ gas mixtures were analyzed using quadrupole mass spectrometry (QMS) and optical emission spectroscopy (OES). The maximum etch rate of the BST thin films was 53.6 nm/min because small addition of $CF_4$ to the $Cl_2/Ar$ mixture increased chemical effect. The optimum condition appears to be under a 10 % $CF_4/(Cl_2+Ar)$ gas mixture in the present work.

한국인 모발과 내부장기조직간 Cd, Hg, Pb 및 Zn함량의 상호관련성 (Relationships in Cd, Hg, Pb and Zn Concentrations Between Hair and Internal Organs of Korean)

  • In order to study the relationships between trace element concentrations of hair and internal organs, autopsy samples of hair, liver, kidney cortex, kidney medulla, heart, lung, spleen, cerebrum, testis and bone from 162 Korean subjects were analyzed for Cd, Hg, Pb and Zn by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry. High significant positive correlations were found between the Cd concentration in hair and bone and Pb in hair and lung. Hair Hg levels were highly significantly correlated with organ Hg levels in the liver, kidney cortex, kidney medulla, heart, lung, spleen, cerebrum, testis and bone. And hair Zn levels were highly significantly correlated with organ Zn levels in the kidney cortex, kidney medulla, spleen, testis and bone.

Compositional SIMS Depth Profiling of CIGS film

  • CIGS solar cell with copper, indium, gallium and selenium is a second generation solar cells for the lowering of the manufacturing cost. The relative ratio of the four elements is one of the most important measurement issues because the photovoltaic property of CIGS solar cell depends on the crystalline structure of the CIGS layer. However, there is no useful analysis method for the composition of the CIGS layer. Recently, AES depth profiling analysis of CIGS films has been studied with a reference material certified by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy. However, there are some problems in AES depth profiling analysis of CIGS films. In this study, the in-depth profiling analysis was investigated by secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) depth profiling analysis. We will present the compositional depth profiling of CIGS films by SIMS and its applications for the development of CIGS solar cells with high efficiency.

대기 분진의 무기 화학적 조성 분석과 Chemical Mass Balance에 의한 오염원 기여도 산출 (Characterization of Inorganic Chemicals in Total Suspended Particulates and a Source Apportionment by Chemical Mass Balance Model)

  • Twenty four metal, nonmetal elements and 4 major anions in total suspended particulates (TSP) collected at two sites in Daejon city from october to december in 1991 by a Hi-vol sampler were thoroughly analyzed by Inductively Coupled Plasma/ Atomic Emission Spectrometry (ICP/AES) and Ion Chromatography (IC). These analyzed data were used to perform a receptor modeling using the Chemical Mass Balance (CMB) for the source apportionment of TSP sample. Approximately 60% TSP weight in industrial complex area was influenced by potential industrial sources and 25% was by heating fuels and automobile emissions, whereas a half of TSP in residential area was influenced by surrounding environment and more than 35% of TSP was influenced by heating fuels. The CMB model provided source apportionment results reasonably and scientifically with a minor limitation.

Integration of Headspace Solid Phase Micro-Extraction with Gas Chromatography for Quantitative Analysis of Formaldehyde

  • A study was carried out to evaluate the solid phase micro-extraction (SPME) for formaldehyde emission analysis of uncoated plywood. In SPME, formaldehyde was on-fiber derivatized through headspace extraction and analyzed by gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (GC/MS). The SPME was compared with desiccators (DC-JAS 233), small-scale chamber (SSC-ASTM D6007) and liquid-liquid extraction (LLE-EPA 556) methods which were performed in accordance with their respective standards. Compared to SSC (RSD 4.3%) and LLE (RSD 5.0%), the SPME method showed better repeatability (RSD 1.8%) and not much difference from DC (RSD 1.4%). The SPME has proven to be highly precise (at 95% confidence level) with better recovery (REC 102%). Validation of the SPME method for formaldehyde quantitative analysis was evidenced. In addition, the SPME by air sampling directly from plywood specimens (SPME-W) correlated best with DC ($r^2$ = 0.983), followed by LLE ($r^2$ = 0.950) and SSC ($r^2$ = 0.935).

정상 한국인 장기조직중 중금속류의 상호관련성 (Interelationship Between the Concentration of Heavy Metals in Normal Korean Tissues)

  • Concentrations of heavy metals, including As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Hg, Mn, Mo, Ni, Pb, Se, Si, Sn, V and Zn in the internal organs (liver, kidney, heart, lung, spleen, cerebrum and bone) of Korean obtained from 91 forensic medical autopsy cadavers, with an age range of 12-87 years, were determined by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry. From the results, positive correlation with age was observed in the following cases : Cd in liver, kidney and cerebrum; Fe in cerebrum and bone; Pb in bone; v in lung. Copper in heart, Hg in bone and Mn in kidney correlated negatively with age. A significantly positive correlation between Se and Hg was only observed in heart. Significant correlation coefficients between Se and As were observed in liver, kidney, heart spleen and bone. The correlation between Cd and Zn was significant in liver and kidney, indicating that the distribution of Cd is similar to that of Zn in the liver and kidney.
