점오염원과 면오염원의 대기환경영향 분석 (Air Quality Impact Analysis of Point and Area Sources)

  • Air quality impacts of point and area sources were analyzed by using ISCST2 with wind speed and stability class combinations of SCREEN. Stack height was important in determining the impact of point sources. With the stack height reduced to 21m from 75m, the concentration in the vicinity increased several times in spite of decreasing the emission rate by half. When the emission rates were same, concentrations from an area source of 10m release height were slightly lower than those from a point source of 21m stack height at the plume centerline. Bur the area source resulted in larger area of high concentration. Concentration from the point source was high in neutral to slightly unstable conditions with strong winds in a short distance, and in stable conditions with weak winds in a long distance. Concentration from the area source decreased with distance from the source, and was high in stable conditions with weak winds.

수돗물의 탄소 배출량 평가 (Carbon Emission Evaluation of Tap Water)

  • To evaluate carbon emission in water treatment processes, LCA (life cycle assessment) was applied to 8 multi-regional water treatment plants (WTPs) from intake to supply of tap water. Investigation of 8 WTPs revealed that average carbon emission for 1 $m^3$ of tap water was 221 g. Major carbon emission sources in water supply system were intake and supply processes. Meanwhile, mixing process was the main carbon emission source in unit water treatment processes. Carbon emission was proportional to the turbidity and COD of raw water. Intake of better raw water and minimization of energy consumption in unit processes are needed to reduce carbon emission in the WTPs. In addition, comparison of carbon emission among WTPs can be used as a parameter for optimization of operation and maintenance of water treatment processes.

이륜차의 일 주행거리조사와 대기오염 배출량 추정 (Estimation of Vehicle Kilometers Travelled and Air Pollution Emission from Motorcycles)

  • Recently it has reported that the motorcycle is a major source of air pollution in urban area by many studies. But the air pollution emission from motorcycle has been high uncertainty due investigation of a lack of activity data and emission factors in Korea. So in this study, the population of moped and VKT (Vehicle kilometers travelled) of motorcycle are investigated for calculation of the emission from this source categories. As the results, the population of moped is estimated as about 400, 000 and corresponded as 23% of registrated motorcycle which is larger than 50 cc in engine displacement. And it is found that the VKT of moped and motorcycle are investigated as 19.1 km/day and 32.3 km/day. Annual air pollution emission from motorcycle and moped are estimated by investigated VKT and updated emission factors. The nationwide emissions of PM_{10}, CO, $NO_x$, VOC are calculated as 910 ton/yr, 208, 198 ton/yr, 3, 032 ton/yr and 25, 575 ton/yr in 2008. The contribution ratio of CO, VOC emission from these sources are estimated as 29%, 24% in on-road transport sector and it is confirmed that motorcycle and moped are major air pollution sources in urban area.

폐기물 소각시설의 이산화탄소 (CO2) 연속측정 실효성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Effectiveness of Continuous CO2 Emission Monitoring in a Waste Incinerator)

  • The purpose of this study is to consider the effectiveness of continuous $CO_2$ emission monitoring in waste incinerator. To prevent global warming, many countries are trying to reduce $CO_2$, the main greenhouse gas. Currently, Korea is implementing an emission trading scheme to reduce $CO_2$, and waste incinerators are included in this scheme as major $CO_2$ sources. However, when using waste incinerators, $CO_2$ is discharged during incineration of various types of wastes, therefore it is very difficult to calculate the amount of emissions according to IPCC guidelines. In addition, the estimation of $CO_2$ emissions by calculation is known to lack of accuracy comparing with actual emissions. Currently, Korea is operating CleanSYS, which enables continuous measurement of gases emitted into the atmosphere. Therefore, it is possible to estimate the $CO_2$ emissions of waste incineration facilities. The IPCC, which published $CO_2$ emission calculation guidelines, recognizes that direct measurement of emission is a more advanced method in cases of various $CO_2$ emission sources such as a waste incineration facility. Also, Korean emission trading scheme guidelines allow estimation of $CO_2$ emissions by continuous measurement at waste incineration facilities. Therefore, this study considers the effectiveness of a direct measurement method by comparing the results of CleanSYS with the calculation method suggested by the IPCC guidelines.

Jitter Radiation for Gamma-ray Burst Prompt Emission

  • We utilize the jitter radiation, which is the emission of relativistic electrons in the random and small-scale magnetic field, to investigate the high-energy emissions of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs). Under the turbulent scenario, the random and small-scale magnetic field is determined by the turbulence. We also estimate the acceleration and cooling timescales. We identify that some GRBs are possible cosmic-ray sources.

PMF 모델을 이용한 미세분진의 오염원 확인과 기여도 추정 : 탄소성분을 이용한 휘발유 및 경유차량 오염원의 분리 (Identifying Ambient PM2.5 Sources and Estimating their Contributions by Using PMF : Separation of Gasoline and Diesel Automobile Sources by Analyzing ECs and OCs)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify $PM_{2.5}$ sources and to estimate their contributions to the border of Yongin-Suwon area, based on the analysis of the $PM_{2.5}$ mass concentration and the associated inorganic elements, ions and carbon components. The contribution of $PM_{2.5}$ sources were estimated by using a positive matrix factorization (PMF) model to identify air emission sources. For this study, $PM_{2.5}$ samples were collected from May, 2007 to April, 2008. The inorganic elements were analyzed by an ICP-AES. The ionic components in $PM_{2.5}$ were analyzed by an Ie. The carbon components were also analyzed by DRI/OGC analyzer. After performing PMF modeling, a total of 12 sources were identified and their contributions were quantitatively estimated. The contributions from each emission source were as follows: 11.3% from oil combustion source, 3.4% from bus/highway source, 5.8% from diesel vehicle source, 4.7% from gasoline vehicle source, 8.8% from biomass burning source, 15.1 % from secondary sulfate, 5.2% from secondary nitrate source, 13.4% from industrial related source, 4.1% from Cl-rich source, 19.6% from soil related source, 1.0% from aged sea salt, and 7.4% from coal combustion source, respectively. This study provides basic information on the major sources affecting air quality, and then it will help to effectively control $PM_{2.5}$ in this study area.

Catalog of the Paα-emitting Sources observed in the Carina Region

  • We list up the Paα-emitting sources observed in the Carina Region (l = 276°-296°) using the MIRIS Paα Galactic Plane Survey data. A total of 201 sources are cataloged. Out of them, 118 sources are coincident with those in the WISE H II region catalog. 52 H II region candidates are newly confirmed as definite H II regions by detecting the Paα recombination lines. For the remaining 83 sources, we search the corresponding objects in the SIMBAD database. 26 point-like sources are associated with planetary nebulae or emission-line stars (such as Wolf-Rayet and Blue supergiant stars). Also, we carry out aperture photometry to measure Paα fluxes for the sources that show circular features without overlapping with other bright sources. For the whole Galactic Plane, the complete Paα-emitting source catalog is in progress.

국내 배출원별 PM2.5 배출량 산정 및 배출 기여도 분석 (The Estimation of PM2.5 Emissions and Their Contribution Analysis by Source Categories in Korea)

  • The Ministry of Environment will enforce air quality standards for $PM_{2.5}$ in 2015 because it affects human health as well as climate change and brings about other adverse effects. Until recently, even though a number of researches have reported $PM_{2.5}$ emissions according to sources, they have not precisely considered the emission factors correspondent to each source for emission estimation. For the sake of establishing $PM_{2.5}$ emission inventories, this study was undertaken using activity data of each source taken from CAPSS (Clean Air Policy Support System) multiplied by each emission factor of U.S. EPA Speciate or EEA CORINAIR. The 2008's total annual $PM_{2.5}$ emission (73.971 ton/yr) can be apportioned into five sources, such as fuel combustion facilities (62.2%), mobiles (33.8%), production processes (3.2%), fires (0.4%), and waste treatments (0.3%). The results show that fuel combustion facilities and mobiles are the predominant sources of $PM_{2.5}$, and they should be taken into great account in establishing $PM_{2.5}$ standards. In addition, it is necessary and urgent to develop effective measures for reduction of $PM_{2.5}$ emissions from those two main sources as well.

GHG-CAPSS 신뢰도 평가 방법 개발을 위한 연구 (A Study on Development of Reliability Assessment of GHG-CAPSS)

  • 최근 인벤토리 구축이 활발해짐에 따라 인벤토리의 정확도 및 신뢰도 평가에 대한 수요 역시 크게 증가하고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 GHG-CAPSS의 신뢰도를 향상시키는데 지표로 활용될 GHG-CAPSS의 신뢰도를 평가하기 위한 방법론을 개발하는데 그 목적을 두고 있다. 본 논문에서는 GHG-CAPSS 신뢰도 평가 방법을 정성적 정량적으로 구분하였으며, 정성적 정량적 평가 결과를 종합하여 신뢰도를 결정할 수 있는 방법을 고안하여 액체 화석 연료 연소에 의한 $CO_2$ 배출량과 매립에 의한 $CH_4$ 배출량에 시범 적용하였다. 시범 적용 결과, 액체 화석 연료연소의 신뢰도 정성적 및 정량적 점수는 각각 25점(/50점), 50점(/50점)으로 최종적으로 75점으로 나타났으며, 매립에 의한 $CH_4$ 배출량의 신뢰도 정성적 및 정량적 점수는 각각 22점(/25점), 20점(/50점)으로 최종적으로 42점으로 평가되었다. 따라서 GHG-CAPSS의 액체화석연료 연소 부문과 매립 부문 배출량의 신뢰도를 평가한 결과, 두 배출원의 정성적 신뢰도는 비슷하였으나, 정량적 평가에서 큰 차이를 보였다. 이는 각 배출원 간의 불확도가 큰 편차를 보였기 때문으로 액체화석연료 연소에 의한 $CO_2$ 배출량의 경우, 신뢰도 향상을 위해 정성적 신뢰도 부분을 향상시키는 데 주력해야 하며, 매립에 의한 $CH_4$ 배출량의 경우 정량적 신뢰도 향상을 위한 연구가 필요할 것으로 사료된다. 또한, 두 배출원 모두, 신뢰도 정성 평가의 점수를 향상시키기 위해 품질 관리 절차 또는 지침서를 개발하여 품질 관리의 수준을 향상시킬 필요가 있는 것으로 사료된다.
