  • As London and post-Koyto protocols presumably affect emission of organic waste in Korea in 2012, appropriate treatment of organic waste becomes very important. Organic wastes are regarded as non-point pollutants. It has been criticized that direct emission charges on the emission of non-point pollutants are not effective due to the high uncertainty in the relationship between pollution sources and pollution levels. This study suggests indirect emission charges on production of livestocks or consumption on foods. Furthermore, it is assumed that revenue from the emission charges will be recycled to support biogas production. Biogas can be fueled to produce energy. In order to evaluate potential economic and environmental impacts of recycling the indirect emission charges on organic wastes, a static CGE model was developed. Simulation results of emission charges on the production of livestock show that livestock, agriculture, and food industry will confront relatively high burden while emission charges on consumption of food will affect more broadly and consumers will suffer more. Production charge on livestock sector will lead to higher reduction in GDP and total expenditure relative to the consumption charge. GHGs reduction effect was higher for the consumption charge relative to the production charge. Synthetically, consumption charge on food sector is more desirable as an alternative charge for the emission of organic wastes.

  • We explain optical and electrical properties of top and bottom-emission structured alternating-current powder electroluminescent devices (ACPELDs) with Ga-doped ZnO(GZO) transparent electrode. The top-emission ACPELDs were layered as the metal electrode/dielectric layer/emission layer/top transparent electrode and the bottom-emission ACPELDs were structured as the bottom transparent electrode/emission layer/dielectric layer/metal electrode. The yellow-emitting ZnS:Mn, Cu phosphor and the barium titanate dielectric layers were layered through the screen printing method. The GZO transparent electrode was deposited by the sputtering, its sheet resistivity is $275{\Omega}/{\Box}$. The transparency at the yellow EL peak was 98 % for GZO. Regardless of EL structures, EL spectra of ACPELDs were exponentially increased with increasing voltages and they were linearly increased with increasing frequencies. It suggests that the EL mechanism was attributed to the impact ionization by charges injected from the interface between emitting phosphor layer and the transparent electrode. The top-emission structure obtained higher EL intensity than the bottom-structure. In addition, charge densities for sinusoidal applied voltages were measured through Sawyer-Tower method.

  • We studied the effect of secondary electron emission from the back plate of AC-PDP, on the ramp waveform driving of the system, using two-dimensional PDP cell discharge simulator. It is found that the secondary electron emission from back plate plays a significant role in getting a stable weak discharge during the ramping up of X-Y electrode voltage. This is because grounded address electrode acts as a cathode during the setup of surface charge, and the secondary electron emission from phosphor in the back plate must be large enough to accumulate surface charges on the dielectric layers without strong plasma discharge. We have concluded that the secondary electron emission coefficient(${\gamma}$) of phosphor, besides MgO, must be known to understand the characteristics of the PDP system. A few suggestions for improvement of the system is also made and tested.

  • Korea has the fourth highest CO2 emission among OECD countries in 2018, As of 2019, total greenhouse gas emissions per capita increased by about 98.2% in comparison to 1990. Korea has promised a 37% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions in 2030 from the projected Paris Climate Change Accord. Currently, many countries use the emissions trading system(ETS) for international carbon management. In 2015, ETS has been implemented in Korea, and the importance of calculating CO2 emissions from construction machinery has increased. So, we require an accurate calculation of the environmental charges through the allocated CERs. Using the CER price and related search keywords, this paper derive about prediction models of CER price and compare and focus on more accurate prediction about CER price. By this method, the budget needed to establish the initial construction process plan can be calculated based on more accurate predicted CER price.

  • In this paper, we present a finite element method (FEM) study on the space charge effects in organic light emitting diodes. The physical model covers all the key physical processes in OLEDs, namely charge injection, transport and recombination, exciton diffusion, transfer and decay as well as light coupling, and thin-film-optics. The exciton model includes generation, diffusion, and energy transfer as well as annihilation. We assumed that the light emission originates from oscillation which thus is embodied as exciton in a stack of multilayer. We discuss the accumulation of charges at internal interfaces and their signature in the transient response as well as the electric field distribution. We also report our investigation on the influence of the insertion of the emission layer (EML) in the bilayer structure.

  • In this paper, we report our numerical simulation on the electronic-optical properties of the phosphorescent organic light emitting diodes (PHOLEDs) devices. In order to calculate the electrical and optical characteristics such as the transport behavior of carriers, recombination kinetics, and emission property, we undertake the finite element method (FEM). Our model includes Poisson's equation, continuity equation to account for behavior of electrons and holes and the exciton continuity/transfer equation. We demonstrate that the refractive indexes of each material affect the emission property and the barrier height of the interface influences the behavior of charges and the generation of exciton.

  • A particulate matter sensor fabricated by MEMS process is proposed. It is developed to accommodate Euro6 on-board diagnostics regulation for diesel automobile. In the regulation, emission of diesel particulate matter is restricted to 9 mg/km. Particulate matter sensor is designed to use induced charges by charged particulate matter. To increase sensitivity of the sensor, groove is formed on sensor surface because wider surface area generates more induced charges. Sensitivity of the sensor is measured 10.6 mV/(mg/km) and the sensor shows good linearity up to 15.7 mg/km. Also its minimum detectable range is about 0.25 mg/km. It is suitable to detect failure of a diesel particulate filter which should filter particulate matter more than 9 mg/km. For removing accumulated particulate matter on the sensor which can disturb normal operation, platinum heater is designed on the backside of the sensor. The developed sensor can sense very low amount of particulate matter from exhaust gas in real-time with good linearity.

  • Photoelectric charging is a very efficient way of charging small particles. This method can be applied to combustion measurement, electrostatic precipitator, metal separation and control of micro-contamination. To understand the photoelectric charging mechanism, particle charging of silver by exposure to ultraviolet is investigated in this study. Average charges and charge distributions are measured at various conditions, using two differential mobility analyzers, a condensation nucleus counter, and an aerosol electrometer. The silver particles are generated in a spark discharge aerosol generator. After that process, the generated particles are charged in the photoelectric charger using low-pressure mercury lamp that emits ultraviolet having wavelength 253.7 nm. The results show that ultra-fine particles are highly charged by the photoelectric charging. The average charges linearly increase with increasing particle size and the charge distribution change with particle size. These results are discussed by comparison with previous experiments and proposed equations. It is assumed that the coefficient of electron emission probability is affected by initial charge. The results also show that the charge distribution of a particle is dependent on initial charge. Single changed particle, uncharged particle and neutralized particle are compared. The differences of charge distribution in each case increase with increasing particle size.
