The acoustic emission (AE) technique is a well-known non-destructive test technique, both in research and for industrial applications. It is mainly used to monitor the onset of cracking processes in materials and components. Predicting and preventing the crack phenomenon has attracted the attention of many researchers and has continued to provide a large incentive for the use of condition monitoring techniques to detect the earliest stages of cracks. In this research, goal is in grasping features of AE signal caused by crack growth. The envelope analysis with discrete wavelet transform (DWT) is used to find the characteristic of AE signal. To estimate feature of divided into three by crack length, the time waveform and the power spectrum were generated by the raw signals and the transferred signal processed by envelope analysis with DWT.
The 77 K emission and excitation, and room-temperature visible spectra of cis[Cr(cyclam)Br$_2$]Br (cyclam=1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane) are reported. The mid- and far-infrared spectra at room-temperature are also measured. The vibrational intervals of the electronic ground state are extracted from the far-infrared and emission spectra. The ten electronic bands due to spin-allowed and spin-forbidden transitions are assigned. It is found that nitrogen atoms of the cyclam ligand have strong $\sigma$-donor characters, but bromide ligand has weak $\sigma$- and $\pi$-donor properties toward chromium(III) ion. The zerophonon line in the excitation spectrum splits into two components by 172 cm$^{2-}$, and the large $^2E_g$ splitting can be reproduced by the ligand field theory.

The electro-optical characteristics of several functional layers over the MgO protective layer were studied during the continuous discharge of an AC-PDP. In order to observe the degradation of each functional layer on the MgO protection layer, we measured the surface morphology, cathodoluminescence (CL) spectrum, the secondary electron emission coefficient (${\gamma}$) and the discharge characteristics after 500 hours of discharge during the operation of the AC-PDP.
Intrinsic UV reflection and fluorescence behaviors of polycarbonate, polyurethane and poly(ethylene terephthalate) films were investigated in order to characterize the interaction of water in these films. During water sorption process, UV reflection spectra of polycarbonate and polyurethane films showed little peak position changes. Fluorescence emission spectra of polycarbonate films showed red spectral shifts from 332 nm with water immersion time. This red-shifted peak could be due to phenyl-2-phenoxybenzoate, which is one of the major thermal degradation products in polycarbonate. Fluorescence peaks of polyurethane films appeared at two different positions and the ratio of these peak intensities increased with increasing immersion time. In the case of PET films, the UV reflection spectrum showed the peak intensity around 340 nm to change in response to water sorption. The fluorescence near 388 nm probably due to ground state dimer exhibited sensitivity with water sorption, when excited at 340 nm.

Poly(fluorenylenevinylene-terphenylenevinylene) containing phenyl pendant group was synthesized by Suzuki coupling reaction and characterized by ${1}^H$-NMR, ${13}^C$-NMR, and IR-spectrum. The weight average molecular weight ($M_{w}$) of the obtained polymer was 31,000 with a polydispersity index of 1.9. The polymer showed good solubility in common organic solvents, and the solution and film emitted blue emission ($\lambda_{max}$=460 nm) on irradiation with UV light. The ITO/PEDOT/polymer/Al device fabricated using the polymer as an emitting layer emitted blue light with a maximum peak around 460 nm. The maximum efficiency of the device was 0.011$\%$.
Acoustic emission (AE) technique is a well-known non-destructive test technique. Fatigue crack growth test was performed using SM53C to check up the AE signal occurred by crack growth, so AE system was used to detect the crack signal. Features calculated by the AE signals were analyzed to evaluate the steps divided the crack growth into three. The steps, initiation, growth and breaking, were separated by velocity of the crack growth. Time waveform and power spectrum were created by the AE signal of each one of the steps and compared. In the feature domains, it was found that AE values changed rapidly as the velocity of the crack increasing.
We present analysis results of the energy spectra of MCG-2-58-22 associated with occasional flares which appear in a long-term X-ray light curve. We measure an intrinsic power-law slope of this object to be ${\Gamma}=1.74{\pm}0.02$ in the energy range of ${\sim}1-5keV$ and find that this slope is little affected by flares. We confirm that there exists a broad excess emission above 5 keV to the power-law continuum. The excess emission is less variable compared with a flux variation of flare and tends to be relatively weak during flares. A soft X-ray spectrum is also found to change, implying the presence of a variable soft component. We discuss the implications of these spectral variations.

We report design and simulation of a two-dimensional (2D) silicon-based nanophotonic crystal as an optical insulator to enhance the light emission efficiency of light-emitting diodes (LEDs). The device was designed in a manner that a triangular array silicon photonic crystal light insulator has a square trench in the middle where LED can be placed. By varying the normalized radius in the range of 0.3-0.5 using plane wave expansion method (PWEM), we found that the normalized radius of 0.45 creates a large band gap for transverse electric (TE) polarization. Subsequently a series of light propagation simulation were carried out using 2D and three-dimensional (3D) finite-difference time-domain (FDTD). The designed silicon-based light insulator device shows optical characteristics of a region in which light propagation was forbidden in the horizontal plane for TE light with most of the visible light spectrum in the wavelength range of 450 nm to 600 nm.

The dampness by treating the surface with polyethylene terephthalate (PET) film was measured to grasp the plasma parameters and was observed the surface condition with an atomic force microscope (AFM) to find the causes of the dampness. Also, the vibrational and rotational temperatures in the plasma were calculated after identifying the radicals within the plasma by analyzing the emission spectral with an emission spectrum. The hydrophilic properties were enhanced, by treating the surface of the PET film with non-equilibrium atmospheric discharge plasma. When the rotational temperature was 0.22 to 0.31 eV within the plasma, surface modification control could be easily carried out to surface treatment of PET film on non-equilibrium atmospheric pressure plasma.
We analyzed 0.5-45 keV data of NGC 3227 observed by Suzaku six times between 2008 October 28 and December 2. The count-count plot between the 0.5-3 keV and 3-10 keV bands exhibits a clear break, separating the data into bright and faint phases. Applying the difference spectrum method and time-averaged spectral fits to the phase data, we found the presence of two kinds of variable primary X-rays, (1) a hard primary component with ${\Gamma}{\sim}1.7$ dominating in the faint phase and (2) a soft primary continuum with ${\Gamma}{\sim}2.4$ appearing in the bright phase, both affected by partial absorption. Considering their timing and spectral characteristics, component (1) is presumably identical to a Compton continuum in the low/hard state, while component (2) may correspond to the hard tail emission in the high/soft state, or compact-jet emission. In that case, an accretion ow onto the central super massive black hole in NGC 3227 can be interpreted to include the two different states.
