To investigate emission characteristics of laminar premixed CH4/air flame, combustion experiments were conducted at three flow rates (5.3L/min, 10.6L/min, 15.5L/min) with changing the combustor pressure(-30Kpa-30Kpa). It was found that with increasing flow rate, NOx emission increased in high pressure condition, while decreased in low pressure condition; and the emission of CO decreased with increasing flow rate. For the influence of pressure, emission of NOx increased with increasing pressure regardless of flow rates, while CO emission decreased on the contrary.
In this study, emission rates (ER) of biogenic volatile organic compounds (BVOCs) were measured by varying levels of photosynthetically active radiation (PAR). An appropriate plan for ozone reduction according to increasing ecology area ratio in future metropolitan areas was suggested. Several trees were selected as representative tree species in urban areas. Emission rates and composition ratios of monoterpene and isoprene emitted from these trees were estimated and compared. As a result, it was found that emission rates of BVOCs were considerably different depending on tree species. Especially, BVOCs emitted from Platanus orientalis and Quercus mongolica could significantly affect ozone increase in the metropolitan area, because the emission rates were several thousands to ten thousand times higher than those emitted from Zelkova serrata and Prunus serrulata. Furthermore, it was observed that emission rates of BVOCs by species increased maximum up to 10 times when PAR, which has close relations with temperature, rose. It was concluded that tree species such as Zelkova serrata et al., was appropriate for metropolitan areas since the species has low ozone potential and good landscape. Suppose this type of trees are planted on purpose in the urban areas, better ambient air quality will be promised in the future.
This study assesses the dispersion and emission rates of odor form industrial area source. CALPUFF and AERMOD Gaussian models were used for predicting downwind odor concentration and calculating odor emission rates. The studied region was Seobu industrial complex in Korea. Odor samples were collected five days over a year period in 2006. In-site meteorological data (wind direction and wind speed) were used to predict concentration. The BOOT statistical examination software was used to analyze the data. Comparison between the predicted and field sampled downwind concentration using BOOT analysis indicates that the CALPUFF model prediction is a little better than AERMOD prediction for average downwind odor concentrations. Predicted concentrations of AERMOD model have a little larger scatter than that of CALPUFF model. The results also show odor emission rates of Seobu industrial complex area were an order of 10 smaller than that of beef cattle feed lots.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the impacts of finishing materials' VVOCs and VOCs emission rates on indoor air quality of Apartment. VOCs emission rate of multi-layer finishing is predicted using the effective diffusion coefficient of each materials, and then the prediction is compared with Mock-up test and sample apartment house. From the results, the prediction of multi-layer finishing using the effective diffusion coefficient show good relation with the measured values.
Traffic represents one of the largest sources of primary air pollutants in urban area. As a consequence, numerous abatement strategies are being pursued to decrease the ambient concentration of pollutants. A characteristics of most of the these strategies is a requirement for accurate data on both the quantity and spatial distribution of emissions to air in the form of an atmospheric emission inventory database. In the case of traffic pollution, such an inventory must be compiled using activity statistics and emission factors for vehicle types. The majority of inventories are compiled using passive data from either surveys or transportation models and by their very nature tend to be out-of-date by the time they are compiled. The study of current trends is towards integrating urban traffic control systems and assessments of the environmental effects of motor vehicles. In this study, a model of vehicle emission calculation by using real-time traffic data was studied. Traffic data, which are required on a street-by-street basis, is obtained from induction loops of traffic control system. It is possible that characteristics of hourly air pollutants emission rates is obtained from hourly traffic volume and speed. An emission rates model is allocated with a high resolution space by using geographic information system (GIS). Vehicle emission model was developed with a high resolution spatial, gridded and hourly emission rates.
In this study, the major emission procedures and emission characteristics were identified at the site of sewage treatment plant which is one of the major sources of ammonia. At the same time the emission factors and emission rates were estimated. In order to calculate the emission flux, we used a Dynamic Flux Chamber(DFC), which is found to be a proper sampling devise for area sources such as sewage treatment plant. It was found that the most stable sampling condition was when the stirrer's speed of DFC was 120RPM, and it would be the best time to take a sample 60 minutes later after setting the chamber. The relatively higher flux was shown in Autumn compared to summer and winter. Annual ammonia emission rates procedures were calculated as $906.32{\mu}g/activity-ton$, $1,114.72{\mu}g/activity-ton$ and $437.53{\mu}g/activity-ton$ each at the primary settling basin, aeration basin and the final settling basin, respectively. The ammonia emission rate the highest at in the aeration basin according to this test. This results was due to that the surface of aeration basin or the final settling basin is relatively wider than the primary settling basin.
Experimental and numerical investigation on NOx emission characteristics with equivalence ratios, fuel flow rates and nozzle diameters were studied in CH4 Jet flames. Emission indices of NOx were measured by chemiluminescent method with carbon converter. Numerical analyses were carried out with GRl-2.11 mechanism that includes C2-chemistry and all of NO reaction mechanisims. The roles of thermal NO and prompt NO mechanism on each flame's NOx emission index were investigated. The results of this study show that the numerical results represent well the trends of ElNOx experimentally observed. The numerical analyses clarified the trends of EINOx with equivalence ratios, fuel flow rates and nozzle diameters.
This study was carried out to analyze the environmental variation of layer house at Iowa State in the USA. The analyzed seasons for this study were summer and winter. Analyzing factors are inside temperature and relative humidity, carbon dioxide concentration, ammonia concentration and emission. All factors were collected every 30 second from each house with portable monitoring units. In this study, two types of laying hen houses were monitored at the same season. One was a manure belt house, the other was a high-rise house. In order to estimate the ventilation rates of the laying hen houses, carbon dioxide concentration balance was used in this study. Ammonia concentrations and emission rates of the manure belt house are much lower than those of the high rise house. Daily mean ammonia concentrations in the manure belt house and high-rise house ranged from 3 to 7 ppm and 5 to 34 ppm, respectively. The daily ammonia emission rates averaged 0.68g/h$\cdot$500kg and 0.73g/h$\cdot$500kg for the manure belt house and 0.93g/h$\cdot$500kg and 2.89g/h$\cdot$500kg for the high-rise house in summertime and wintertime, respectively. Summertime is associated with much higher ammonia emission rates than wintertime because of much higher ventilation rates and ambient air temperature, even though the concentrations may be lower.
PURPOSES : Road sectors contribute approximately 16 % of total GHG emission rates in South Korea. Engineers and experts expend significant efforts to identify countermeasures for the reduction of carbon emission. This study aims to determine how total carbon emission rates change depending on whether or not there is speed limit enforcement. METHODS : In this study, Lamm's travel speed profile theory is first adopted to select the hazard road, which sections are designated as speed limit enforcement. Second, Motor Vehicle Emission Simulator (MOVES) was used to simulate the carbon emission on the road. RESULTS : The total carbon emission rate under speed limit enforcement was 10,773 g higher than the condition without speed limit enforcement in the designated road. This might affect acceleration, which can lead to increased emissions. CONCLUSIONS : There would be no researches about proving the relationship how speed limit enforcement has an effect on carbon emission. The result of our study can provide valuable guidelines regarding road safety and eco-friendly roads.

In order to present the scientific information of organic emissions from consumer products available, the current study examined the emissions composition for three different types of consumer products being used in Korea in an environmental chamber: air freshener (AF), mosquito repellents (MSQR), and moth repellents (MTHR). Emission rates were evaluated by determining emission rates of the target compound from the selected products using an electropolished stainless steel (SS) test chamber $(40{\times}25{\times}50cm^3)$. A time-dependent empirical relationship developed in this study agreed well with the test results. As same with the emission concentrations, MSQR exhibited the highest emission rate for all target compounds except for limonene and naphthalene. MTHR ($9,200\;{\mu}g\;h^{-1}$) showed the highest emission rate of naphthalene followed by MSQR ($8,300\;{\mu}g\;h^{-1}$). Moreover, the concentrations in residential bedroom conditions for target compounds emitted from three types of consumer products were estimated. This estimation suggests that the uses of consumer products can elevate indoor levels of target compounds. In particular, any types of the consumer products may increase the indoor level of m, p-xylene.
