We report the fabrication and electroluminescent characteristics of GaN/InxGa1-xN microdonut-shaped light-emitting diode (LED) microarrays as variable-color emitters. The diameter, width, height, and period of the GaN microdonuts were controlled by their growth parameters and the geometrical factors of the growth mask patterns. For the fabrication of microdonut LEDs, p-GaN/p-AlxGa1-xN/u-GaN/u-InxGa1-xN heteroepitaxial layers were coated on the entire surface of n-GaN microdonuts. The microdonut LED arrays showed strong light emission, which could be seen with the unaided eye under normal room illumination. Additionally, magnified optical images of microdonut LED arrays exhibited microdonut-shaped light emissions having spatially resolved blue and green colors. Their electroluminescence spectra had two dominant peaks at 460 and 560 nm. With increasing applied voltage, the intensity of the blue emission peak increased much faster than that of the green emission peak, indicating that the color of the LEDs is tunable. We also demonstrated that EL spectra of the devices could be controlled by changing the size of microdonut LEDs. What we want to emphasize here with the microdonut LEDs is that they have additional inner sidewall facets which did not exist for other typical three-dimensional structures including nanopyramids and nanorods, and that InxGa1-xN single quantum well formed on the inner sidewall facets had unique thickness and chemical composition, which generated additional EL color. The origin of the electroluminescence peaks was investigated by structural characterizations and chemical analyses.
In this article photoluminescence of the $Al_2O_3:xCr_2O_3$ solid solutions prepared by solid state reaction method are represented. The effect of $Cr_2O_3$-activator concentration and heat treatment time on the PL characteristics have been discussed in conjunction with microstructure of phosphor samples. The $Al_2O_3:xCr_2O_3$ phosphors show the highest PL intensity at x=0.003 mole when the samples are reacted at $1600^{\circ}C$ for 5 h. The PL emission and absorption spectra show the maximum peaks at 698 nm and at 398 nm respectively. The CIE color coordinate is (x=0.646, y=0.316) at 0.003 mole $Cr_2O_3$, which value is very close to the NTSC coordinate of red color. This characteristic feature of $Al_2O_3:xCr_2O_3$ has been applied for an additive to improve the color characteristic of other red phosphor $LiEuW_2O_8$ which has a relatively poor color purity with an emission peak centered at 615 nm and with a CIE coordinate (x=0.530, y=0.280). The $Al_2O_3:0.003Cr_2O_3$ phosphor has been mixed with the $LiEuW_2O_8$ phosphor powder and the PL characteristics and CIE color coordinates are characterized. The $Al_2O_3:xCr_2O_3$ phosphor was found effective for improving the CRI (color rendering index) of $LiEuW_2O_8$ phosphor.

At present, characteristic of high color reproduction for LCD TV is needed in Display market according to start mass production of LCD TV. Therefore development target for LCD is focused on improvement of color reproduction. The improving methods of high color reproduction are alteration of color Filter or Red, Green, Blue phosphor alteration of CCFL. But decrease of luminance and panel transmittance is caused by alteration of Color Filter. Accordingly, we completed LCD with high color reproduction by the most suitable emission spectrum of CCFL phosphor at panel with conventional color filter. In this experiment, we knew that LCD applied to CCFL with high color rendering characteristic had color reproduction range of 81% compared with NTSC in CIE color coordinate. According to increase of intensity peak and alteration of Red, Green, Blue phosphor spectrum, we made LCD with high color reproduction characteristic. In conclusion we achieved improvement of color reproduction ratio by alteration of CCFL phosphor without changing color filter.
High efficiency white organic light emitting diodes were fabricated by using an alignment free mask patterning method. Only red/green emission without any blue emission was observed in the red/green patterned region and blue emission was emitted in other area. A combination of the red/green and blue emission gave a high efficiency white emission. A maximum current efficiency of 30.7 cd/A and a current efficiency of 25.9 cd/A at 1000 cd/$m^2$ were obtained with a color coordinate of (0.38, 0.45).
Following advances in technology and with the growing need for renewable energy, fluorescent and halogen lamps are being replaced by LED lighting in museum systems. This paper researched the setting of standards for the diverse lighting systems in addition to the LED lighting that are expected to be introduced in museums in the future. Contrary to previous belief, LEDs were shown to only barely emit in the ultraviolet region, but the visible rays were confirmed to produce discoloration depending on illuminance-hours. When the color change by LED lamps at the color temperature of 2800K, or warm white, was compared with 5500K, or white, the emission spectrum analysis confirmed that the blue spike increased at a higher color temperature and caused more discoloration. This suggests that in addition to illumination, color temperature should be considered by including the emission spectrum when museums set lighting environment standards.
The graphene oxide (GO) and graphene oxide quantum dots (GOQDs), which have gained research interest as new types of light-emitting materials, were synthesized by the modified Hummers method for oxidation of graphite flake and graphite nanoparticle. The optical properties of GO and GOQDs have been compared by mean of photoluminescence (PL), PL excitation (PLE), UV-vis absorbance, and time-resolved PL. The GO have an absorption peak at 229 nm and shoulder part at 310 nm, whereas the GOQDs show broad absorption with a gradual change up without any absorption peaks. The PL emission of GOQDs and GO showed the green color at 520 nm and the red color at 690 nm, respectively. The red emission of GO showed faster PL decay time than the green emission of GOQDs. In particular, the temporal PL profile of the GO showed redshift from 560 nm to 660 nm after the pump event.
We review the early historical developement of astronomical spectrographs, properties of emission line spectra of HII regions in spiral galaxies, and absorption line features of galactic globular clusters. Emission line spectra of HII regions within three spiral galaxies NGC 300, NGC 1365, and NGC 7793, which were observed from AAT/IPCS, had been analysed, and we discuss the abundances of elements in HII regions and the radial abundace gradients through the galaxies. The radial UBV color variations of two globular clusters, NGC 1851 and NGC 2808, were examined for correlations with radial variations of several absorption lines in the integrated spectra, which were obtained from SAAO 74 inch telescope and image tube spectrograph. Nine giant star's spectra in NGC 3201 were also obtained and analysed for the radial abundance gradients in the globular cluster. The results show that the presence of a radial color gradient in a globular cluster is correlated with the presence of abundance gradients. Finally, we suggest some scientific programs for the new high dispersion spectrograph, which will be installed to the BOAO 1.8m telescope.
In order to realize full color display, two approaches were used. The first method is the patterning of red, green, and blue emitters using a selective deposition. Another approach is based on a white-emitting diode, from which the three primary colors could be obtained by micro-patterned color filters. White-light-emitting organic light emitting devices (OLEDs) are attracting much attention recently due to potential applications such as backlights in liquid crystal displays (LCDs) or other illumination purposes. In order for the white OLEDs to be used as backlights in LCDs, the light emission should be bright and have Commission Internationale d'Eclairage (CIE) chromaticity coordinates of (0.33, 0.33). For obtaining white emission from OLEDs, different colors should be mixed with proper balances even though there are a few different methods for mixing colors. In this study, we will report a white organic electroluminescent device based on an incomplete energy transfer. In which the blue and green emission come from the same layer via incomplete energy transfer.

The SrS:Cu, Ag thin film electroluminescient devices were fabricated on $AlTiO_3$/ITO/glass substrates by electron-beam evaporation. The emission spectrum of the device was about 460 nm with $\chi$=0.20, y=0.29 in the CIE color coordinator. It was found that the emission spectrum was saturated to pure blue color when Ag sensitizer was doped in SrS:CuCl phosphors. The luminance of the device was increased by increasing the sulfur pressure. The measured luminance was saturated with 430 cd/$m^2$at the applied voltage of 90 V and the maximum luminance was 580 cd/$m^2$at 110V. The polarization charge and conduction charge of the devices were found to be found to be about $3.5\mu$C/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and $7.4\mu$C/$\textrm{cm}^2$, respectively.

$Eu^{3+}$-activated $R_3GaO_6$ (R = Y, Gd) phosphors were prepared in a conventional solid-state reaction and their optical properties were investigated. These compounds exhibit strong red emission under light excitation at 254 nm. The emission spectra are dominated by peaks appearing around 610-630 nm that are induced by the electric dipole transition of $^5D_0\;{\rightarrow}\;^7F_2$ of $Eu^{3+}$. In addition, the appropriate CIE (Commission Internationale de l'clairage) chromaticity coordinates, (x = 0.656, y = 0.336) for $Y_3GaO_6$ and (x = 0.655, y = 0.334) for $Gd_3GaO_6$, become closer to the NTSC (National Television System Committee) standard values. With the optimized activator concentrations, the maximum emission brightness is approximately 80% of $Y_2O_3$:$Eu^{3+}$ typical red-emitting phosphor with improved color purity under an excitation condition of 254 nm.
