  • Three super hydrophobic fluorescence dyes were selected to dye high molecular weight polyethylene fiber and their molar absorptivity, emission spectrum, and quantum yield were measured. From the results of color strength on the fiber, all the three dyes exhibited linear increase according to the dye concentration and Fluoro3 dye showed the highest color strength among them. Emission strength of the fluorescence dyes on the fiber was investigated according to the dye concentrations. The emission was increased with the increase of the dye concentration at relatively low dye concentration and then after showing the maximum emission strength the emission was decreased at higher dye concentrations. The highest emission was obtained in Fluoro2 dye. Color fastness to washing and rubbing was generally good enough, however, especially to light, only Fluoro3 dye exhibited rating 3 acceptable practically and Fluoro1 and 2 was ratings 1 which is unacceptable level.

  • We have systematically investigated the X-ray spectra of normal galaxies, by using the Imaging Proportional Counter (IPC) data in the Einstein data base. We employed the X-ray color-color plot as well as the standard model fitting method which requires higher signal to noise ratio. We discuss X-ray emission mechanisms in terms of their spectral properties and the signature of cooling flows which are most likely present in X-ray bright early type galaxies. On the average, fits to absorbed thermal spectra show that the X-ray emission temperature of spirals is higher than that of ellipticals. This is consistent with our understanding that accreting binaries are a major X-ray source in spirals, while extended gaseous halos are present in ellipticals. The emission temperature becomes lower with increasing X-ray to optical luminosity ratio in E and S0 galaxies. This result is what we would expect if the emission of X-ray faint early type galaxies consists of a large evolved stellar component, while the gaseous emission becomes dominant in X-ray brighter galaxies. We also find a cool, self-absorbed core in some early type galaxies, which directly indicates the presence of cooling flows in such galaxies.

  • We studied the emission characteristics of white phosphorescent organic light-emitting diodes (PHOLEDs), which were fabricated using a two-wavelength method. To optimize emission characteristics of white PHOLEDs, white PHOLEDs with red/blue, blue/red and red/blue/red emitting layer (EML) structures were fabricated using a host-dopant system. In case of white PHOLEDs with red/blue structure, the best efficiency was obtained at a structure of red (15 nm)/blue (15 nm). But the emission color was blue-shifted white. In case of white PHOLEDs with blue/red structure, the better color purity and efficiency were observed at a blue (29 nm)/red (1 nm) structure. For additional improvement of color purity in white PHOLEDs with blue (29 nm)/red (1 nm) EMLs, we fabricated white PHOLEDs with red (1 nm)/blue (28 nm)/red (1 nm) structure. The current efficiency, external quantum efficiency, and CIE (x, y) coordinate were 27.2 cd/A, 15.1%, and (0.382, 0.369) at 1,000 $cd/m^2$, respectively.

  • This study uses neon and xenon gas mixture discharges to determine the effects of the neon plasma emission on the characteristics of visible emission from the stimulation of the red, green, blue(RGB) phosphor layers in a surface-type alternate current plasma display panel(AC PDP). With a mixture of less than 2% xenon to neon, it is found that the luminance changes in the visible emission of the phosphor layers are similar to those of the neon plasma emission. In the range of xenon mix ratio from 2 to 5%, the luminance of the red, green, blue(RGB) phosphor layers decreases with a decrease in the neon plasma emission intensity. However, with a mixture of above 5% xenon to neon, the luminance of the red, green, blue(RGB) phosphor layers increases regardless of a decrease in the neon plasma emission intensity. Furthermore, the color purity of the red, green, blue(RGB) phosphor layers improve as the neon plasma emission intensity decreases. Accordingly, it is concluded that the optical properties of the phosphor layers, including color purity and luminance, depend on the neon plasma discharge emission as well as the visible emission from the stimulation of the phosphor layers.

  • We fabricated white organic light emitting diodes(WOLED) having two complementary and three primary colors with emission layers of DPVBi / MADN : DCM2-0.5% and DPVBi / $Alq_3$ / MADN : DCM2-1.5%, respectively. WOLED using three primary colors shows broad electroluminescence including green emission peak at 510nm while optical properties of the two complementary WOLED was higher current efficiency of 6.2 cd/A than 4.9 cd/A of three primary color WOLED. The maximum luminescence of WOLED with two complimentary color was $15200cd/m^2$ along with luminous efficiency 6.2cd/A, as achieving stable white color coordinates for both of WOLEDs at (0.33 , 0.33) almost.

  • The Far Infrared Ray (FIR) is part of the natural energy as light spectrum of sunlight. Human can disentangle the colors within visible ray, but FIR is invisible to human sight because it has longer wavelength than visible ray. The effect of using FIR on broiler performance, blood biochemical profiles and fecal gas emission from litter. Day-old semi-broiler chicks (Ross ♂ ${\times}$ Hyline ♀) were obtained and assigned to eight pens, 2 replicates of white and green color LED light, and with FIR on each color light, in a 20L:4D of lighting program. The body weight gain and feed efficiency were tend to improve under the green color than white color, which were increased by exposing to FIR on both color light. Emission of ammonia and lower hydrocarbons from litter were not different from each color but there was a decrease by exposing to FIR regardless of light color. The level of blood aspartate aminotransferase (AST) tends to be decreased under green color than white color, and this tendency becomes more pronounced as exposing to FIR. Therefore significantly increased under white color without FIR than green color with FIR (P<0.05). The levels of albumin and immunoglobulin were not different from each color but there was an increase by exposing to FIR regardless of light color. In conclusion, exposing to Far Infrared Ray (FIR) when broiler raising, there is potential to increase broiler performance because of improvement of bioactivity and raising environment.

  • An alternating copolymer of PPV and PTV, poly[2-methoxy-5-(3,7-dimethyl)octyloxy-1,4-phenylenevinylene-alt-2,5-thienylenevinylene] (DAPPV-PTV) has been synthesized and light-emitting properties of the polymer have been studied. A single layer EL device using DAPPV-PTV as an emitting layer between ITO and Al electrodes (ITO/DAPPV-PTV/Al) has been fabricated, and light emission of the device becomes visible at 3 V. The EL emission maximum of the device is about 620 nm. Double layer EL device using DAPPV-PTV and Alq3 (ITO/DAPPV-PTV/Alq3/Al) has also been fabricated. The double layer EL device shows two-color emission depending on the applied voltage. The device emits a pale green color from 8 V, and then the color turns to red at about 18 V.

  • EL (electro-luminescent) device as a light source has an advantage in embodying large area with great flexibility. On nickel foil as an electrode and backplane, we demonstrated a white EL flexible light source with blue phosphor layer combined with color change layer. A correlation between color change layer and color coordination was analyzed by Gaussian method, and then the color coordinate was controlled near to (0.33, 0.33) of pure white light.

  • We report on white organic light-emitting diodes (WOLEDs) based on single white dopants, $Ir(pq)_2$($F_2$-ppy) and $Ir(F_2-ppy)_2$(pq), where $F_2$-ppy and pq are 2-(2,4-difluorophenyl) pyridine and 2-phenylquinoline, respectively. The similar phosphorescent lifetime of two ligands lead to luminescence emission in two ligands simultaneously. However, the emission color of the devices was reddish, because the energy was not transferred efficiently from the 4,4,N,N'-dicarbazolebiphenyl (CBP) to the $F_2$-ppy ligand, due to the small band gap of the CBP. Accordingly, we used 1,4-phenylenesis(triphenylsilane) (UGH2) with a large band gap, instead of CBP as the host material. As a result, it was possible to adjust the emission color by the host material. The luminous efficiency of the device with $Ir(F_2-ppy)_2$(pq) doped in UGH2 was about 11 cd/A at 0.06 cd/$m^2$.

  • A new driving scheme is proposed to improve the color purity by reducing the neon (Ne) emission of 585 nm in an ac PDP. Applying the new driving scheme to the address electrodes during a sustain-period induces a new discharge mode that can reduce the Ne emission remarkably. For this new discharge mode, the change in the Ne emission intensity including the discharge characteristics is measured and the corresponding mechanism is also analyzed. As a result, it is found that a color gamut area is expanded by approximately 9.2 % in comparison with a conventional case.
