  • In this paper, a cochlea-inspired artificial filter bank(CAFB) was developed in order to efficiently acquire dynamic response of structure, and it was also evaluated via dynamic response experiments. To sort out signals containing significant modal information from all the dynamic responses of structure, it was made to adopt a band-pass filter optimizing algorithm(BOA) and a peak-picking algorithm (PPA). Optimally designed on the basis of El-centro and Kobe earthquake signals, it was then embedded into the wireless multi-measurement system(WiMMS). In order to evaluate the performance of the developed CAFB, a vibration test was conducted using the El-centro and Kobe earthquake signals, and structural responses of a two-span bridge were obtained and analyzed simultaneously by both a wired measurement system and a CAFB-based WiMMS. The test results showed that the compressed dynamic responses acquired by the CAFB-based WiMMS matched with those of the wired system, and they included significant modal information of the two-span bridge. Therefore this study showed that the developed CAFB could be used as a new, economic, and efficient measurement device for wireless sensor networks(WSNs) based real time structural health monitoring because it could reconstruct the whole dynamic response using the compressed dynamic response with significant modal information.

  • As a software component for computer game, the physics engine simulates objects' movement according to the laws of physics. This paper introduces a design and implementation of mobile game on the Android platform, where we used JBox2D physics engine library and Android graphics APIs. We borrowed the key idea of this game from Crayon Physics which is known as a famous PC game. This game starts with no way from user character to destination character. The game user has to make a way to destination character from user character by creating polygon objects between them. The user wins when user character meets destination character. However, the game user has to decide the time to create objects and their shapes well because all objects in this game are governed by the laws of physics. As an important thing of this paper, we introduced into this game new input methods of LCD touch and sensors embedded in mobile devices but not in PCs. Game users can create objects by drawing polygons with LCD touch and move objects or characters according to sensor values from accelerator sensors by tilting the mobile device.

  • In this study, we have fabricated a fiber-optic dosimeter using an organic scintillator and a plastic optical fiber. The dosimeter measure skin dose and percentage depth dose in a build-up region for an incident high energy photon beam. The scintillating light generated in the organic sensor probe embedded in a solid water phantom is guided by 30 m plastic optical fiber to a light-measuring device such as a PMT or an electrometer. In addition, using a fiber-optic dosimeter or a GAFCHROMIC EBT film, skin dose and percentage depth dose in the build-up region are measured and compared.

  • IP and SIP public broadcasting systems developed in Korea and abroad are developed in a Windows or Linux server environments and are installed in a server-rack structure, have high power consumption, and are difficult to remotely respond to system failures. In this paper, IoT platform is designed to connect IoT device and gateway to IoT service server by using internet service structure. We also designed a server based on embedded OS that can provide a variety of public safety management services according to the order of the server with built-in call processing and broadcasting function that can handle emergency calls and emergency broadcasts in public places using this structure. This server is interoperable with a variety of SIP-based call and broadcast devices that support the standard SIP and can be integrated with an in-house phone and on-premises system.

  • One of the main shortcomings in the current passive base isolation system is lack of adaptability. The recent research and development of a novel adaptive seismic isolator based on magnetorheological elastomer (MRE) material has created an opportunity to add adaptability to base isolation systems for civil structures. The new MRE based base isolator is able to significantly alter its shear modulus or lateral stiffness with the applied magnetic field or electric current, which makes it a competitive candidate to develop an adaptive base isolation system. This paper aims at exploring suitable control algorithms for such adaptive base isolation system by developing a close-loop semi-active control system for a building structure equipped with MRE base isolators. The MRE base isolator is simulated by a numerical model derived from experimental characterization based on the Bouc-Wen Model, which is able to describe the force-displacement response of the device accurately. The parameters of Bouc-Wen Model such as the stiffness and the damping coefficients are described as functions of the applied current. The state-space model is built by analyzing the dynamic property of the structure embedded with MRE base isolators. A Lyapunov-based controller is designed to adaptively vary the current applied to MRE base isolator to suppress the quake-induced vibrations. The proposed control method is applied to a widely used benchmark base-isolated structure by numerical simulation. The performance of the adaptive base isolation system was evaluated through comparison with optimal passive base isolation system and a passive base isolation system with optimized base shear. It is concluded that the adaptive base isolation system with proposed Lyapunov-based semi-active control surpasses the performance of other two passive systems in protecting the civil structures under seismic events.

  • Mounted on mobile device, set-top box, or digital TV, EVM is a virtual machine solution that can download and execute dynamic application programs. And the SIL(Standard Intermediate Language) is intermediate language of the EVM, which has a set of opcodes for object-oriented language and a sequential language. Since the C compiler used on each platform depends on the hardware, it converts C program to objective code, and then executes. To solve this problem, our research team developed ANSI C compiler and the EVM. Our ANSI C compiler outputs the SIL code based on stack machine. This paper presents the SIL-to-C decompiler in which converts the SIL code to three address code. Thus, the decompiler allows us to verify SIL code created by ANSI C compiler, and analyze a program from C language source level.

  • As the usefulness of mobile device is kept growing the privacy of the cloud computing is receiving more attentions. Even though many researches and solutions for privacy matters are suggested we are still worrying about the security problems. In addition most of cloud computing systems uses file-level synchronization which make it difficult to modify a part of a file. If we use data-centric app that stores data on embedded DBMS such as SQLite, a simple synchronization may incur some loss of information. In this paper we propose a solution to build a personal cloud that supports record-level synchronization. And we show a prototype system which uses RESTful web services and the same schema on mobie devices and the cloud storage. Synchronization is achieved by using a kind of optimistic concurrency control.

  • Recently, various applications of location trigger service have been required and developed as users of location-based services are increasing. The location trigger is detecting event of entering in, existing in or leaving from pre-specified area, and then alerting by short message service, an e-mall or servicing other pre-defined action to mobile subscribers. The conventional methodology of supporting location trigger is detecting location trigger events as periodical requesting location of mobile communication terminal to location gateway server in mobile communication network. But these conventional methods cause mobile communication interruption when the location trigger services are overloaded; thereby inducing performance of core server to be fell off. So in this paper, we have studied a new location trigger technology, named multilevel location trigger, to reduce mobile core network sewer triggering bottleneck and power consumption caused embedded GPS device of mobile phone. Actually, as design and evaluating the performance of location trigger after building test-bed environment, we contribute toward improving echnology of location trigger.
