  • Previous experimental researches indicate that reinforced concrete beam-column joints play an important role in the mechanical properties of moment resisting frame structures, so as to require proper design. In order to get better understanding of the beam-column joint performance, a rational model needs to be developed. Based on the former considerations, two typical models for calculating the shear carrying capacity of the beam-column joint including the inelastic reinforced concrete joint model and the softened strut-and-tie model are selected to be introduced and analyzed. After examining the applicability of two typical models mentioned earlier to interior beam-column joints, several adjustments are made to get better predicting of the test results. For the softened strut-and-tie model, four adjustments including modifications of the depth of the diagonal strut, the inclination angle of diagonal compression strut, the smeared stress of mild steel bars embedded in concrete, as well as the softening coefficient are made. While two adjustments for the inelastic reinforced concrete joint model including modifications of the confinement effect due to the column axial load and the correction coefficient for high concrete are made. It has been proved by test data that predicted results by the improved softened strut-and-tie model or the modified inelastic reinforced concrete joint model are consistent with the test data and conservative. Based on the test results, it is also not difficult to find that the improved beam-column joint model can be used to predict the joint carrying capacity and cracks development with sufficient accuracy.

  • In order to suggest a reasonable design for the circular concrete filled tube steel column-foundation connection applying high-tension bolts, Overall structural behavior and characteristics according to various variables of column-foundation connection are numerically analyzed using a commercial FE analysis program, ABAQUS. To that goal, finite element analysis is conducted on the basis of the previous study replacing anchor bolts to high-tension bolts, and the analytical results are validated by comparison with experimental results. Also, the various variables(embedded depth and grade of anchor, and height and thickness of rib) involved in behavior of the column-foundation connection are selected through analyzing the current design criteria, and the characteristics of the column-foundation connection are compared and analyzed according to the various variables. In case of the anchor bolts, Applying the high-tension bolts is more advantage and securing the embedded depth beyond 0.5D is recommendable. In case of the rib, a minimum of 0.5D for rib's height and $0.4t_b$ for rib's thickness should be secured to develop the structural performance.

  • An analytical model was developed for predicting the pullout behavior of straight beam longitudinal bars anchored at exterior beam-column connections. The model incorporates a local bond constitutive simulation capable of considering the effects of anchored bar diameter, yield strength and the spacing, concrete compressive strength, and column pressure on the bond characteristics of deformed bars in confined conditions of exterior joints. The analytical techniques adopted in this study were shown to satisfactorily predict the results of pullout tests on straight bars embedded in confined concrete specimens. An evaluation of the ACI-ASCE Committee 352 development length requirements in exterior joint conditions was made using the developed analytical approach. The results of this analytical evaluation are indicative of the conservatism of the current development length requirements in the confined conditions of exterior joints.

  • Time-dependent buckling of embedded straight concrete columns armed with Silicon dioxide($SiO_2$) nano-particles exposed to fire is investigated in the present study for the fire time. The column is simulated mathematically with Timoshenko beam model. The governing mass conservation equations to describe heat and moisture transport in concrete containing free water, water vapor, and dry air in conjunction with the conversion of energy are considered. The characteristics of the equivalent composite are determined using Mori-Tanaka approach. The foundation around the column is simulated with spring and shear layer. Employing nonlinear strains-displacements, energy methods and Hamilton's principal, the governing equations are derived. Differential quadrature method (DQM) is used in order to obtain the critical buckling load and critical buckling time of structure. The influences of volume percent of $SiO_2nano-particles$, geometrical parameters, elastic foundation and concrete porosity are investigated on the time-dependent buckling behaviours of structure. Numerical results indicate that reinforcing the concrete column with $SiO_2nano-particles$, the structure becomes stiffer and the critical buckling load and time increase.

  • A 1257-m-long irregular deep foundation pit located in the central of Nanjing, China was constructed using the combined full-width and half-width top-down method. Based on the long-term field monitoring data, this study analyzed the evolution characteristics of the vertical movement of the columns, internal force of the struts, and axial force of the structural beam and slab. The relevance of the three mentioned above and their relationship with the excavation process, structural system, and geological conditions were also investigated. The results showed that the column uplift was within the range of 0.08% to 0.22% of the excavation depth, and the embedded depth ratio of the diaphragm wall and the bottom heave affected significantly on the column uplift. The differential settlement between the column and diaphragm wall remained unchanged after the base slab was cast. The final settlement of the diaphragm wall was twice the column uplift. The internal force of the struts did not varied monotonically but was related to numerous factors such as the excavation depth, number of struts, and environmental conditions. Additionally, the dynamic force and deformation of the columns, beams, and slabs were analyzed to investigate the inherent relationship and variation patterns of the responses of different parts of the structure.

  • In this study, experimental research was carried out to investigate the seismic and structural performance of precast concrete exterior beam-column joints using bolt type connection and prestressing method. A total of five full-scale exterior beam-column joints were constructed and tested under reversed cyclic loading, controlled by displacement. Results of the test are as follows: Energy dissipation capacity and pinching phenomenon of PC beam-column joints showed disadvantageous behavior compared to RC beam-column joints. However, drift capacity of the PC joint was excellent. Also, yield mechanism concentrated on embedded nuts was suitable as an exterior beam-column joint of lateral load resistance frame. Additional application of prestressing method was also very effective to control excessive pinching and cracking in the joint region, and thus improved an overall seismic performance of the PC joint.

  • Most traditional databases exploit record-oriented storage model where the attributes of a record are placed contiguously in hard disk to achieve high performance writes. However, for search-mostly datawarehouse systems, column-oriented storage has become a proper model because of its superior read performance. Today, flash memory is largely recognized as the preferred storage media for high-speed database systems. In this paper, we introduce fast column-oriented database model and then propose a new column-aware index management scheme for the high-speed column-oriented datawarehouse system. Our index management scheme which is based on enhanced $B^+$-Tree achieves high search performance by embedded flash index and unused space compression in internal and leaf nodes. Based on the results of the performance evaluation, we conclude that our index management scheme outperforms the traditional scheme in the respect of the search throughput and response time.

  • Thermal imaging is mainly used in military equipment required for night observation. In particular, technologies of uncooled thermal imaging detectors are being developed as applied to low-cost night observation system. Many system integrators require different specifications of the uncooled thermal imaging camera but their development time is short. In this approach, EOSYSTEM has developed a small size, TEC-less uncooled thermal imaging camera module with $32{\times}32mm$ size and low power consumption. Both domestic detector and import detector are applied to the EOSYSTEM's thermal imaging camera module. The camera module contains efficient infrared image processing algorithms including : Temperature compensation non-uniformity correction, Bad/Dead pixel replacement, Column noise removal, Contrast/Edge enhancement algorithms providing stable and low residual non-uniformity infrared image.

  • In this paper, we present a new finite Timoshenko beam element with a model for ultimate load computation of reinforced concrete frames. The proposed model combines the descriptions of the diffuse plastic failure in the beam-column followed by the creation of plastic hinges due to the failure or collapse of the concrete and or the re-bars. A modified multi-scale analysis is performed in order to identify the parameters for stress-resultant-based macro model, which is used to described the behavior of the Timoshenko beam element. The micro-scale is described by using the multi-fiber elements with embedded strain discontinuities in mode 1, which would typically be triggered by bending failure mode. A special attention is paid to the influence of the axial force on the bending moment - rotation response, especially for the columns behavior computation.

  • In this paper, we investigate a real-time environment recognition system based on stereo vision for moving object. This system consists of stereo matching, obstacle detection and distance estimation. In stereo matching part, depth maps can be obtained real road images captured adjustable baseline stereo vision system using belief propagation(BP) algorithm. In detection part, various obstacles are detected using only depth map in case of both v-disparity and column detection method under the real road environment. Finally in estimation part, asymmetric parabola fitting with NCC method improves estimation of obstacle detection. This stereo vision system can be applied to many applications such as unmanned vehicle and robot.
