  • Today, there are research trends about the wearable sensor device that measures various bio-signals and provides healthcare services to user using e-Health technology. This study describes the wearable sensor glove using pulse-wave sensor, conducting fabric and embedded system. This wearable sensor glove is based on the pulse-wave measurement system which is able to measure the pulse wave signal in much use of oriental medicine on the basis of a research trend of e-Health system.

  • This paper presents an analysis architecture of embedded operating systems for wireless sensor network. Wireless multi-hop sensor networks use battery-operated computing and sensing device. We expect sensor networks to be deployed in an ad hoc fashion, with very high energy constraints. These characteristics of multi-hop wireless sensor networks and applications motivate an operating system that is different from traditional embedded operating system. These days new wireless sensor network embedded operating system come out with some advances compared with previous ones. The analysis is focusing on understanding differences of dominant wireless sensor network OS, such as TinyOS 2.0 with TinyOS 1.x.

  • This paper focuses on the implementation of hand held typeARM11 Platform for gas sensor based on Embedded Linux OS. The S3C6400, which is ARM11 architecture based, is the key component of the ARM11 Platform, Bluetooth is adapted to consist the network for the wireless transmission of environmental data between a sensor node and hand held type ARM11 Platform. Linux is ported to the Platform, QT/embedded is used for the application development.

  • This paper addresses the system lifetime maximization algorithm in multi-hop sensor network system. A multi-hop sensor network consists of many battery-driven sensor nodes that collaborate with each other to gather, process, and communicate information using wireless communications. As sensor-driven applications become increasingly integrated into our lives, we propose a energy-aware scheme where each sensor node transmits informative data with adaptive data rate to minimize system energy consumption. We show the optimal data rate to maximize the system lifetime in terms of remaining system energy. Furthermore, the proposed algorithm experimentally shows longer system lifetime in comparison with greedy algorithm.

  • Although vehicles become more intelligent for convenience and safety of drivers, traffic accidents are increased more and more. Especially, car-to-car single rear impacts in the urban area are increased rapidly because of driver inattention. To prevent rear impacts in the urban area, commercial automobile vendor applies the low-speed short-distance collision warning system. This paper presents low-speed short-distance collision warning algorithm for the city driving by using sensor fusion of laser sensor and ultrasonic sensor. An experiment using embedded microprocessor in the driving track was used to demonstrate the feasibility of the collision warning algorithm.

  • In this paper, we implemented the Android NDK porting application with Eclipse(JDK) ADT and TinyOS 2.0. TinyOS and Cygwin are component based embedded system and an Open-source basis for interfacing with sensor application from H-mote. Cygwin is a collection of tools for using the Linux environment for commercially released with x86 32 bit and 64 bit versions of Windows. TinyOS-2. x is a component based embedded OS by UC Berkeley and is an Open-source OS designed for interfacing the sensor application with specific C-language. The results of Android porting experiment are described to show the improvement of sensor interfacing functionality under the PXA320 embedded RTOS platform. We will further more develop the software programming of Android porting under Embedded platform and enhance the functionality of the Android SDK with mobile gaming and kernel programming under sensor interfacing activity.

  • An embedded sensor is significantly influenced by its spatial environment, such as barriers or distance, through low power and signal strength. Due to these causes, noise data frequently occur in an embedded sensor. Because the information acquired from the embedded sensor exists in a time series, it is hard to detect an error which continuously takes place in the time series information on a realtime basis. In this paper, we proposes an error detection method based on time-series prediction that detects error signals of embedded sensors in real time in consideration of the physical characteristics of embedded devices. The error detection method based on time-series prediction proposed in this paper determines errors in generated embedded device signals using a stable distance function. When detecting errors by monitoring signals from an embedded device, the stable distance function can detect error signals effectively by applying error weight to the latest signals.   • This paper introduces balancing energy and memory consumption for lifetime increase of wireless sensor network. In cluster-based wireless sensor network, sensor nodes adjacent of cluster heads have a tendency to deplete their own battery energy and cluster heads occupy memory space significantly. If the nodes close to region where events occur frequently consume their energy and memory fully, network might be destroyed even though most of nodes are still alive. Therefore, it needs to balance network energy and memory with consideration of event occurrence probability so that network lifetime is increased. We show a method of balancing wireless sensor network energy and memory to organize cluster groups and elect cluster heads in terms of event occurrence probability.

Study on Stress Transfer Property for Embedded FBG Strain Sensors in Concrete Monitoring

  • Fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors already have been the focus for structural health monitoring (SHM) due to their distinguishing advantages. However, as bare optical fiber is very fragile, bare FBG strain sensor without encapsulation can not properly be applied in practical infrastructures. Therefore encapsulation techniques for making encapsulated FBG strain sensor show very important in pushing forward the application of FBG strain sensors in SHM. In this paper, a simplified approximate method to analyze the stress transferring rules for embedded FBG strain sensors in concrete monitoring is put forward according to mechanics of composite materials. Shear lag theory is applied to analyze the stress transferring rule of embedded FBG strain sensor in measured host material at the first time. The measured host objects (concrete) and the encapsulated FBG strain sensor are regarded as a composite, and then the stress transfer formula and stress transfer coefficient of encapsulated FBG strain sensor are obtained.
