  • The service handling the map data in the mobile device including navigation, LBS, Telematics, and etc., becomes various. The size of map data which is stored and managed in the mobile device is growing and reaches in several GB. The conventional navigation system has used the read-only PSF (physical storage format) in order to enhance the performance of system by maximum in the mobile device which has limited resources. So though a little part of the map data is changed the whole data must be updated. In general, it takes several ten minutes to write the 2 GB map data to a flash memory of mobile device. Therefore, we have developed the mobile spatial DBMS (database management system) to solve the problem which is that the partial map data couldn't be updated in the conventional navigation system. And we suggest the policy to guarantee the performance of the navigation system which is implemented using the spatial mobile DBMS and verify this by experiment.

  • Recently, mobile computing devices are used popularly. And quantity of information on mobile computing devices is being increased due to digitalization of information. So it needs an embedded DBMS for effective information management. Furthermore, since flash memory having a restriction on the number of partial write cycles is rapidly deployed on mobile computing devices as data storage and is more expensive than the conventional magnetic hard disk, the compressed data management system(CDMS) has been considered as an effective storage management technique for mobile computing devices in previous research. However, the research of CDMS is at the initial stage and has several problems. Hence, in this paper, we present additional storage management methods to solve the problems and improve the effectiveness of the CDMS for embedded DBMS.

  • 군용 항공 장비는 정보의 수집 분석, 식별, 외부 상황에의 대처와 같이 다량의 데이터 혹은 복잡한 데이터 구조를 필요로 하는 작업을 수행하는 경우가 않으며 네트워크 중심전 (NCW)의 등장으로 데이터 관리의 중요성이 점차 높아지는 추세이다. 군용 항공 장비에서는 일반적인 데이터베이스 시스템의 사용을 제약하는 제약 사항이 존재하며 선행 연구에서 이러한 문제점을 완화시키는 임베디드 기반 실시간 DBMS에 대한 리덜 및 임베디드 기반 실시간 DBMS를 이용한 간단한 아키텍처 및 외부 장비와의 연동 방안을 제시하였다. 본 논문에서는 군용 항공 장비가 임베디드 기반 실시간 DBMS의 효율적인 이용을 가능하게 하는 모듈들을 포함하는 미들웨어의 구조와 외부 장비 및 사용자 작성 응용 프로그램과의 연동, 미들웨어 내부에서의 데이터의 흐름 방식을 제안한다.

  • 최근 유비쿼터스 컴퓨팅 환경이 발전함에 따라 교통(u-Transport), 복지(u-Care), 문화(u-Fun), 환경(u-Green), 산업(u-Business), 행정(u-Government), 도시(u-City) 뿐만 아니라 사용자의 위치와 다양한 공간 정보를 제공하는 u-GIS가 유비쿼터스 컴퓨팅 환경의 핵심 요소 기술로 대두되고 있다. 이에 본 논문에서는 기존의 PC용 MMDBMS인 HS QLDB를 확장하여 모바일 장치에서 시공간 데이타를 효율적으로 처리 및 관리할 수 있는 내장형 시공간 DBMS를 설계 및 구현하였다. 내장형 시공간 DBMS는 OpenGIS "Simple Features Specification for SQL"에서 명시하는 공간 데이타 타입과 공간 연산자를 확장하여 시공간 데이타 타입과 시공간 연산자를 제공하며, 시공간 데이타 특성들 고려한 산술 연산 코딩 압축 기법을 제공하고, 모바일 저장 장치인 플래쉬 메모리에서 효율적인 시공간 데이타 검색을 위한 시공간 인덱스를 지원한다. 그리고, 내장형 시공간 DBMS와 U-GIS 서버 사이에서 시공간 데이타 수입/수출의 성능 향상을 위한 데이타 캐슁 기능과 DBMS의 안정성을 위한 백업/복구 기능을 지원한다.

  • In this paper, a relational embedded DBMS was designed and a prototype 'Miracle' RDBMS (MDB) was developed. MDB is written in C and works on Unix, Linux and Windows platforms locally. It accesses database through SQL interfaces and API functions and uses $B^+$ tree index. It guarantees ACID in transactions and supports low concurrency control and processes SQL statements on a single table. To evaluate the performance of MDB on an ARM board EZ-S3C6410 and to compare the performance of MDB with that of SQLite, an experiment was carried out to estimate processing times for insertion, selection, update and deletion operations. The result shows that the average times for selections and insertions in MDB were 38.46% and 22.86% faster than those in SQLite, respectively, but the average times for updates and deletions in SQLite were 28.33% and 26.00% faster than MDB, respectively, This experiment shows that fetching data from database and sending data to database in MDB is faster than in SQLite, but $B^+$ tree index is implemented more effectively in SQlite than in MDB.

  • Mani Memory DataBase(MMDB) system store their data in main physical memory and provide very high-speed access. Conventional database system are optimized for the particular characteristics of disk storage mechanism. Memory resident systems, on the other hand, use different optimizations to structure and organize data, as well as to make it reliable. This paper provides a brief overview on MMDBs and the results after evaluating the performance of our simple MMDB based on Embedded system.

  • Flash memory has been widely used in mobile devices, such as mobile phone and digital camera. Recently flash SSD(Solid State Disk), having same interface of the disk drive, is replacing the hard disk of some laptop computers. However, flash memory still cannot be considered as the storage of database systems. The FTL(Flash Translation Layer) of commercial flash SSD, making flash memory operate exactly same as a hard disk, shows poor performance on the workload of databases with many random overwrites. Recently In-Page Logging(IPL) approach was proposed to solve this problem. In this paper, we implement IPL approach on SQLite, a popular open source embedded DBMS, and evaluate its performance. It improves the performance by up to 30 factors for update queries.

  • PC 및 서버 급에서 DBMS가 아주 폭넓게 사용되어지고 있으며 그 뿐 아니라 컴퓨팅 파워가 높아짐에 따라서 임베디드 시스템에서도 DBMS가 필요해졌다. 임베디드 시스템에서 DBMS가 충분히 동작할 만큼의 성능을 발휘하게 되었고, 이에 따라 임베디드 시스템에서 동작하는 응용프로그램들도 임베디드 DBMS를 사용하게 되었다. 임베디드 시스템이 점차 플래시 메모리를 사용하는 추세에 맞추어 플래시 기반 임베디드 DBMS 기술 개발이 중요하다. 플래시 메모리의 특성에 맞춘 임베디드 DBMS를 개발하지 않으면, 결과적으로 플래시 메모리의 성능을 저하시키며, 수명도 단축시키는 결과를 초래하게 될 것이다. 특히 임베디드 환경에서는 전기 에너지 자원이 한정되어 있기 때문에 전력 소모를 줄이는 것이 관건이다. 따라서 임베디드 DBMS에서 디스크에서 정의한 비용 모델을 따르는 것은 한계가 있다. 본 논문은 임베디드 DBMS에서 전력 기반 비용 모델을 새롭게 제시하고, 디스크 기반 비용 모델과 비교하여 제시한 비용 모델과의 차이를 보인다.

  • In recent, development of wireless internet technology gradually has increased multimedia application in mobile device. Specially, application of grand capacity multimedia contents has increased in mobile environment gradually. MPEG-7 can search multimedia data using various type. But in restricted grand capacity of multimedia, MPEG-7 is used to be limited in desktop computer system mostly. Therefore, management of grand capacity multimedia data has become very important researching topic in mobile environment, and so embedded DBMS based on MPEG-7 for multimedia data management in client-server environment is needed. The system supports restricted hardware resource for multimedia application in mobile device. In this paper, we propose a method for MPEG-7 data clustering that included MPEG-7 data property. On the base of the clustering result, we also develop the embedded multimedia database management system based on MPEG-7 scheme(EMDS:MPEG-7 Scheme Based Embedded Multimedia Database Management System) in mobile device such as PDA.

  • The deep-sea miner is the tracked vehicle system which drives on the deep-seabed and gathers a manganese nodules. The miner is operated by remote control in real-time by the station of surface vessel. So operating S/W is a important part of miner remote operating. At present, the test miner has been designed and manufactured for near-shore sea-test. The test miner consists of mechanical parts, and electric-electronic parts. Because those parts should be controled and monitored remotely, operating S/W for control and monitoring is necessary by all means. In this paper, real-time operating S/W for a control and monitoring of the test miner was designed and developed using PXI, embedded controller and LabVIEW. This real-time operating S/W was developed for an efficient test of test miner in a near seabed area. Moreover, database management system(DBMS) was developed too for the data management of test miner monitoring using MS SQL and LabVIEW.
