While high-definition precipitation maps with a 270 m spatial resolution are available for South Korea, there is little information on geospatial availability of precipitation water for the famine - plagued North Korea. The restricted data access and sparse observations prohibit application of the widely used PRISM (Parameter-elevation Regressions on Independent Slopes Model) to North Korea for fine-resolution mapping of precipitation. A hybrid method which complements the PRISM grid with a sub-grid scale elevation function is suggested to estimate precipitation for remote areas with little data such as North Korea. The fine scale elevation - precipitation regressions for four sloping aspects were derived from 546 observation points in South Korea. A 'virtual' elevation surface at a 270 m grid spacing was generated by inverse distance weighed averaging of the station elevations of 78 KMA (Korea Meteorological Administration) synoptic stations. A 'real' elevation surface made up from both 78 synoptic and 468 automated weather stations (AWS) was also generated and subtracted from the virtual surface to get elevation difference at each point. The same procedure was done for monthly precipitation to get the precipitation difference at each point. A regression analysis was applied to derive the aspect - specific coefficient of precipitation change with a unit increase in elevation. The elevation difference between 'virtual' and 'real' surface was calculated for each 270m grid points across North Korea and the regression coefficients were applied to obtain the precipitation corrections for the PRISM grid. The correction terms are now added to the PRISM generated low resolution (~2.4 km) precipitation map to produce the 270 m high resolution map compatible with those available for South Korea. According to the final product, the spatial average precipitation for entire territory of North Korea is 1,196 mm for a climatological normal year (1971-2000) with standard deviation of 298 mm.

For expression of isogram in mobile GIS environments, the client needs to receive the value data with the topographical map from a server. At this point, a client can't get the entire raw data because of the mobile characteristics. The approach to get representative points and to make isogram by interpolation methods, has some problems. The approach requires huge computing overhead at the client and doesn't guarantee the correctness of the isogram. In this paper, a data structure and algorithm for efficient transmission of contour information to a client which is constructed from a elevation information at a server, arc proposed. A proposed methods are focused at minimizing the transmission data volume and time.
Human like robot arm posture for grasping by considering the shape of the target object is quite a challenge in the field of robotics. In this paper, an optimized grasp posture with respect to the shape of the object considering the wrist joint angle and elbow elevation angle, in order to verify that the grasp posture is human like has been proposed. Given a target object, the candidates for grasp are computed by the method described in this paper. For each candidate, the closed loop inverse kinematics has been solved for the corresponding hand position and orientation. From the obtained joint angles through inverse kinematics, the elbow elevation angle has been computed and compared with the elbow elevation angle obtained through human movement data by the characteristic equation. After considering all the candidates, the hand position and orientation with minimum wrist joint and difference in elbow elevation angles has been utilized as the optimized grasp posture. Simulation results are presented.
This study was undertaken to identify optimal head elevation and position in the care of the neurosurgical patient with a cerebral aneurysm. The effects of 0°. 15° and 30° head elevation and three positions (supine, side tying position opposite to the operation site, and side tying position on the same side as the operation site) on ICP was studied in fourteen neurosurgical patients with cerebral aneurysms. The results are as follows : 1. The mean intracranial pressure was significantly lower when the patient's head was elevated at 30° as compared to 0° and 15°. 2. The mean intracranial pressure was significantly lower when the patient was positioned in the supine as compared to side tying position opposite to the operation site and side tying position on the same side as the operation site. The data indicate that head elevation to 30° and the supine position reduce ICP in neurosurgical patients with cerebral aneurysm.

Sampling techniques is very important in digital elevation model. There are scanning and digitizing method of sampling techniques. This study is limited in digitizing method. Continous sampling method use contour lines as same entity and grid method is a direct reading of sample elevation in each grid. Triangulated irregular method is needed to identity topographical lines to sample elevation data. As a results, authors know that continous sampling method has economic in input system and triangulated irregular method has a small memory size.
A study on the infrared signature of a naval ship by the solar elevation was performed using the well known IR signature analysis software, ShipIR/NTCS. The contrast radiant intensity of a ship against the Eastern Sea background from sunrise to noon was investigated. Monthly averaged climate data for both January and July were applied to investigate the seasonal change in the signature. A study on the signature for different ship speeds was also carried out. Simulation results showed that the maximum signature in both wave-bands for a sea-level observer occurred at around 25~35 degrees of solar elevation and was highly dependent on the ship geometry rather than the solar irradiance.
In this study, terrain classification, which was done by using the quantitative classification parameters and suitable interpolation method was applied to improve the accuracy of digital elevation models, and to increase its practical use of aerial photogrammetry. A terrain area was classified into three groups using the quantitative classification parameters to the ratio of horizontal, inclined area, magnitude of harmonic vectors, deviation of vector, the number of breakline and proposed the suitable interpolation. Also, the accuracy of digital elevation models was improved in case of large grid intervals by applying combined interpolation suitable for each terrain group. As a result of this study, I have an algorithm to perform the classification of the topography in the area of interest objectively and decided optimal data interpolation scheme for given topography.
For the evaluation of wind resources, numerical simulation was carried out as a tool for establishing wind map around the korean peninsula. Initial and boundary condition are given by 3 hourly RDAPS(Regional Data Assimilation and Prediction System) data of KMA(Korea Meteorology Administration) and high resolution terrain elevation land cover(30 seconds) data from USGS(United States Geological Survey). Furthermore, Data assimilation was adopted to improve initial meteorological data with buoy and QuikSCAT seawinds data. The simulation was performed from 2003 to 2006 year. To understand wind data correctly in complex terrain as the korean peninsula, at this research, Wind map was classified 4 categories by distance from coastline and elevation.
Forest and agricultural land are very important factors in the environmental ecosystem and securing food resources. Forest and agricultural land should be monitored regularly. CAS500-4 data are expected to be effectively used as a supplement of monitoring forest and agricultural land. Prior to the launch of the CAS500-4, the relative canopy height error analysis of the digital elevation model on South Korea was performed to determine the vertical target accuracy. Especially, by considering area of interest of the CAS500-4 (mountainous or agricultural area), it is conducted that vertical error analysis according to the slope and canopy. For Gongju, Jeju, and Samcheok, the average root mean squared differences were calculated compared to the drone LiDAR digitalsurface models, which were filmed in autumn and winter and the 5 m digital elevation model from the National Geographic Information Institute. As a result, the Shuttle radar topography mission digital elevation model showed a root mean squared differences of about 8.35, 8.19, and 7.49 m, respectively, while the Copernicus digital elevation model showed a root mean squared differences of about 5.65, 6.73, and 7.39 m, respectively. In addition, the root mean squared difference of shuttle radar topography mission digital elevation model and the Copernicus digital elevation model according to the slope angle were estimated on South Korea compared to the 5 m digital elevation model from the National Geographic Information Institute. At the slope angle of between 0° to 5°, root mean squared differences of the Shuttle radar topography mission digital elevation model and the Copernicus digital elevation model showed 3.62 and 2.52 m, respectively. On the other hands root mean squared differences of the Shuttle radar topography mission digital elevation model and the Copernicus digital elevation model respectively showed about 10.16 and 11.62 m at the slope angle of 35° or higher.

Reliable flow measurement for dry season is very important to set up the in-stream flow exactly and total maximum daily load control program in the basin. Especially, in the points which tidal current effects are dominant because reliability of the low measurement decrease. The reliable measuring methods are needed. In this study, we analysis the water surface elevation difference of water surface elevation. Quantity relationship to consider tidal currents in these regions. It is known that tidal current effects from Nakdong river barrage are dominant in Samrangjin measuring station. We developed multiple regression equation with water surface elevation, quantity, and difference of water surface elevation and compared these results water measured rating curve. All of these regression equation including linear regression equation and log regression equation fits better measured data them existing water surface elevation quantity line and Among three equations, the log regression equation is best to represent the measured the rating curve in Samrangjin point. The log regression equation is useful method to obtain the quantity in the regions which tidal currents are dominant.
