The purpose of this study is to provide implications for developing science textbooks and curriculum. The textbooks of elementary and secondary school Science were analyzed for their animal-related learning contents. Among learning materials, 165 kinds of animals were presented in Science of elementary school textbooks (37 kinds in Inquiry life, 162 kinds in Science), 167 kinds in Science of middle school, 486 kinds of high school (172 kinds in Science of high school, 180 kinds in Biology I, 366 kinds in Biology II). There are most kinds of animals in Biology II textbooks than in other textbooks. It was appeared that animal species were diverse in order of Class Insecta, Mammalia, Aves in the elementary school Science textbooks, Mammalia, Insecta, Aves in the middle school, Mammalia, Aves, Pisces in the high school.
The purpose of this study is to see correlation between parental psychological control and volition control in mathematics learning of 6th grade of elementary school. This study has carried out a survey for 371 male and female students in 6th grade of elementary school in Gyeongnam. We analyzed the collected data statistically, and the results are as follows. First, there was a significant difference in the level of volition control in mathematics learning between male and female students. The level of volition control in mathematics learning was found to be higher in female groups than in male groups. Second, there was no significant difference in father and mother's psychological control level perceived by 6th grade elementary school students. Third, there was a significant negative correlation between parental psychological control and their children's level of volition control in mathematics learning. In this study, by examining the correlation between parental psychological control and volition control level in mathematics learning of elementary school students, the higher the parental psychological control, the lower the level of volition control of their children. So, that it is important to have a parenting attitude that respects their children's emotion and expression.
Changes in the brain activities following pre-service elementary teachers' learning hypothesis-generation were investigated using the analysis of EEG relative power and EEG coherence. In this study, the experimental group (n=16) were trained using learning methods for hypothesis-generation and the control group(n=16) were trained using learning methods for hypothesis-reception over the course of 8 weeks. EEG was measured before and following the learning process for both groups. Decreased theta ($4{\sim}7.9Hz$)/alpha 1 ($8{\sim}9.9Hz$) power and increased alpha 2 ($10{\sim}l2.9Hz$)/beta ($13{\sim}29.9Hz$)/gamma ($30{\sim}50Hz$) power were showed in the experimental group. Additionally, many changes in brian activities were observed for theta, beta and gamma coherence in the experimental group. In particular, fronto-parietal coherence increased in the experimental group. These differences in brain activities between the two groups suggest that the learning for subjects' hypothesis generation presumably leads to interesting changes in some types of brain activities in pre-service elementary teachers.
The purpose of this study was to survey the problem of teachers' narrative reporting of children's science learning in elementary school report cards. For the purposes of this study, a questionnaire, comprised of 6 questions and an analysis tool (Cronbach's $\alpha=.70$) were developed to categorize the answers. The survey was conducted by 53 teachers, who are currently taking 5th ade in elementary school, and the results are as follows: First, they interpreted the same content of report cards in a variety of different ways. Second, they exhibited a number of different principles and criteria in terms of preparing the content of narrative report cards. Third, they experienced difficulties in preparing narrative report cards on science teaming which required explanation of complete processes. Fourth, most teachers surveyed answered that the content of their narrative reports on science learning did not communicate specifically the students' achievement and further studies. Fifth, the activities related to preparing the content of the science learning on narrative reports was widely perceived to be useless for teachers' professional development. Finally, teachers made a number of alternative proposals to overcome the current, perceived problems of teachers' narrative reporting for children's science learning in report cards. Based on the results of this analysis, alternative forms and content of narrative reports on science learning were discussed.
The purpose of this study was to investigate misconceptions regarding the structure of flowers and the function of the course based on the 'Flower' section of 5th grade elementary school science courses. It also sought to investigate how misconceptions are changed before and after the application of a Driver learning model, and finally analysing any differences in the correction of misconceptions. A questionnaire was created for 199 5th grade elementary school pupils. The major results before and after using an applied Driver learning mode teaching plan are as follows: In the response for questions, 13.6% and 14.5% of misconceptions were corrected for male and female pupils, respectively. For rural and urban pupils, 14.8% and 11.2% of misconceptions were corrected, respectively. In the comparison of male and female pupils according to the reasons for selection of responses before and after using an applied Driver learning model teaching plan, 27.8% of male and 30.0% of female pupils scientific conceptions showed improvement. For rural and urban schools, 26.6% and 32.2% of scientific conceptions were improved, respectively. Data from this study may help teachers to reconsider their own conceptions regarding the study of the flower as it is presently conducted in elementary school.
The purpose of this study was to confirm correlation between elementary school students' VARK Learning styles test and Scientific Communication Skills through VARK questionnaire (version 7.3) for Youngers and Scientific Communication Skills Test. The subjects were 99 in 6th grade students of an elementary school located in Gyeonggi-do, Korea. The results of this study were as follows: 64% of the students had multiple learning styles, but only 36% of the students preferred a single mode of information presentation. Among students had a single mode preference, the aural ("A") was the highest unimodal preference. Among "V(visual)" mode, "A" mode, "R(read/write)" mode, and "K(kinesthetic)" mode, "A" mode was the commonest learning mode which students had. In Scientific Communication Skills Test, students' overall average was 26.19p [scientific explanation type (11.85p), scientific insistence type (14.34p)]. Girls' scores were higher than boys in scientific explanation type, but not in scientific insistence type. The scores by communication forms were Text (5.67p), Number (6.87p), Table (6.15p), and Picture (7.49p). Girls' scores were higher than boys in Text and Picture forms but not in Number and Table forms. In result of correlation analysis (Spearman's rho) between VARK Learning Styles and the types & forms of Scientific Communication Skills, there were common correlation in "Read/write (R) learning style-Scientific insistence type", "Read/write (R) learning style-Grounds of Scientific insistence", "Read/write (R) learning style-Description of Scientific explanation", and "R learning style-Text form".
Individualized instruction only in the off-line classroom is not enough because elementary school students have various levels and tendencies. In recent years there are a lot of efforts to use online learning, and they are valuable. But the current online learning management systems are not utilized effectively in the elementary school. So this study suggests utilization plan of online learning management system through Moodle which can present and perform both learning objectives and learning contents for individualized instruction in elementary schools.

The purpose of this study was to find out the Effect of Elementary Science Teaching Program with Circle Map on Learning Motive and Learning Achievement. To this end, the 6th grade classroom of A-elementary school located in Jeju-city was selected the experimental group (25 patients). And the other 6th grade classroom in the same school was selected to the comparative group (25 patients). The experimental group was conducted applying the Circle Map. Comparison group has been conducted lesson program in accordance with the general science class teacher guide. Was through a pre-test of science learning motivation and academic achievement level can be assumed in the same group. After completing the experimental treatment by conducting a post-mortem examination was statistically validated. In this study, the following conclusions were obtained. First, elementary science class which applied Circle Map had the effect of to improve the scientific motivation(p <.05). In particular, association in the experimental group were higher than the scores of the comparative group, the difference was significant. Second, the Circle Map applied to elementary science class had a significant effect on improving science achievement. The experimental group which applied Circle Map was higher than the comparative group in science achievement post-test comparison. Between the groups showed a significant difference between the two groups(p <.05). The above findings, Elementary science class which applied Circle Map can be concluded to be effective in science and science achievement motivation.
