  • Milli-structure components are classified as component group whose size is between macro and micro scale. that is, about less than 20mm and larger than 1mm. The forming of these components has a typical phenomenon of bulk deformation with thin sheets because of the forming size. In order to conventional metal forming, where numerical process simulation is already fully applied, the micro-forming process is characterized by some scale effects which have to be considered in an advanced process simulation. milli-structure rectangular cup drawing is analyzed and designed using the finite element method and experiment. The result of the finite element analysis is confirmed by a series of experiments.

  • This paper proposes a method for quantifying the types of quality elements proposed by Kano; namely: attractive quality, one-dimensional quality, and must-be quality. Kano's classification of required quality has helped us improve our thinking in product development. However, his classification is conceptual rather than quantitative, and the conventional techniques of questionnaire and group interview cannot provide quantification of the relationship between the degree of customer satisfaction and the degree of sufficiency of required qualities. This paper describes how a quality element under Kano's quality model can be expressed as a utility function, and describes an application to quality design of a cellular phone.

  • The technology of Semi-Solid Forging (SSF) has been actively developed to fabricate near-net- shape products using light and hardly formable materials. Generally, the SSF process is composed of slug heating, forming, compression holding and ejecting step. After forming step in SSF, the slug is compressed during a certain holding time in order to be completely filled in the die cavity and be accelerated in solidification rate. This paper presents the analysis of temperature, solid fraction and shrinkage at compression holding step for a cylindrical slug, then predicts the solidification time to obtain the final shaped part. Enthalpy-based finite element analysis is performed to solve the heat transfer problem considering phase change in solidification.

  • This paper deals with the mechanical stress analysis caused by the electromagnetic radial force and the design considering the stress. The link in an Interior Permanent Magnet Brushless Motor(IPM) have influence on the mechanical and magnetic performance. Therefore, it is necessary to determine the appropriate link thickness. The optimal geometry link is designed by using the coupled with structural and electromagnetic Finite Element Method.

  • The paper reports on alternative hybrid/mixed formulations being developed by the Structural Analysis Research Group of Institute Superior T$\acute{e}$cnico. These formulations open the scope and increase the power of the finite element method by allowing different fields to be independently approximated, within certain consistency criteria, and by enhancing the use of a wide range of approximation functions. They have been applied to the analysis of 2-D problems, laminar structures and solids, using different constitutive relations, both in quasi-static and dynamic regimes. The fundamental properties of the formulations are identified and assessed and their performance is illustrated using simple, linear applications.

  • The stochastic finite element method is employed to obtain a stochastic dynamic model of angled beams subjected to impact loads when uncertain material properties are described by random fields. Using the perturbation technique in conjunction with a precise time integration method, a random analysis approach is developed for efficient analysis of random elastic waves. Formulas for the mean, variance and covariance of displacement, strain and stress are introduced. Statistics of displacement and stress waves is analyzed and effects of bend angle and material stochasticity on wave propagation are studied. It is found that the elastic wave correlation in the angled section is the most significant. The mean, variance and covariance of the stress wave amplitude decrease with an increase in bend angle. The standard deviation of the beam material density plays an important role in longitudinal displacement wave covariance.

  • A new adaptive dual reciprocity boundary element method for dynamic analysis of 3-D structures is presented in this paper. It is based on finding the best approximation function of a radial basis function (RBF) group $f=r^n+c$ which minimize the error of displacement field expansion. Also, the effects of some parameters such as the existence of internal points, number of RBF functions and position of collocation nodes in discontinuous elements are investigated in this adaptive procedure. Three numerical examples show improvement in dynamic response of structures with adaptive RBF in dual reciprocity with respect to ordinary BEM.

  • This paper extends a single equation, semi-analytical approach for three-span bridges to multi-span ones for the rapid and precise determination of natural frequencies and natural mode shapes of an orthotropic, multi-span plate. This method can be used to study the dynamic interaction between bridges and vehicles. It is based on the modal superposition method taking into account intermodal coupling to determine natural frequencies and mode shapes of a bridge deck. In this paper, a four- and a five-span orthotropic roadway bridge deck are compared in the first 10 modes with a finite element method analysis using ANSYS software. This simplified implementation matches numerical modeling within 2% in all cases. This paper verifies that applicability of a single formula approach as a simpler alternative to finite element modeling.

  • A Fuzzy Microprocessor(FMP) is presented, which is suitable for real-time control applications. The features include high speed inference of maximum 114K FLIPS at 20MHz system clocks, capability of up to 128-rule construction, and handing of 8 input variables with 8-bit resolution. In order to realize these features, the fuzzifier circuit and the processing element(PE) are well optimized for LSI implementation. The chip fabricated in 1.2$\mu\textrm{m}$ CMOS technology contains 71K transistors in 82.8 $\textrm{mm}^2$ die size and is packaged in 100-pin plastic QFP.

  • In this paper, a dual-servo type VCM (Voice Coil Motor) for the measuring of nano-level displacement and small thrust is proposed and developed. The shape of VCM for improving the resolution of displacement and ensuring a large displacement are presented. The FEM (finite element method) is utilized to analyze the characteristics of VCM that produces linear driving thrust and satisfies the thrust that the measurement system requires. The Prototype is fabricated and an experiment is performed in order to measure displacement. As a result of simulation and testing, the proposed VCM shows the applicable possibility for a nano-level measurement system.
