  • It is still very difficult to generate a geometry model and finite element model, which has complex and many free surface, even though 3D CAD solutions are applied. Furthermore, in the medical field, which is a big growth area of recent years, there is no drawing. For these reasons, making a geometry model, which is used in finite element analysis, is very difficult. To resolve these problems and satisfy the requests of the need to create a 3D digital file for an object where none had existed before, new technologies are appeared recently. Among the recent technologies, there is a growing interest in the availability of fast, affordable optical range laser scanning. The development of 3D laser scan technology to obtain 3D point cloud data, made it possible to generate 3D model of complex object. To generate CAD and finite element model using point cloud data from 3D scanning, surface reconstruction applications have widely used. In the early stage, these applications have many difficulties, such as data handling, model creation time and so on. Recently developed point-based surface generation applications partly resolve these difficulties. However there are still many problems. In case of large and complex object scanning, generation of CAD and finite element model has a significant amount of working time and effort. Hence, we concerned developing a good direct finite element model generation method using point cloud's location coordinate value to save working time and obtain accurate finite element model.

  • This paper presents a study on the effects of localized steel-concrete bond degradation on the flexural behaviour of RC beams. A finite element analysis is undertaken to complete the experimental analysis. The first part deals with an experimental study on beams where bond was removed by using plastic tube at different locations and for various lengths. The flexural behaviour was studied at global scale (load-deflection) and local scale (moment-curvature). The second part, a numerical study using a simplified special finite element (rust element) modelling the rust layer occurring between reinforcement and concrete with corrosion was conducted in order to find the relation between the degree of corrosion and the degradation of the steel-concrete bond. The computed value of the corrosion degree corresponding to the total degradation of bond has been used in a second time to model the tests, in order to evaluate the influence of the loss of bond, the steel cross section reduction, and the combination of both. The results enable to evaluate the influence of the different corrosion effects on the flexural behaviour, according to the length and the location of the corroded zone.

  • This study analyzed convergence status among input technologies used in technology development with Technology I-O analysis. It was another version of industry input-output analysis which is used in technology planning. This case is an analysis of association between technology an product. The subjects of analysis were 401 tasks that applied to '2012 Convergence Technology Development Project for Small and Medium Businesses' promoted by Korea Technology & Information Promotion Agency for Small and Medium Enterprises. The process of analysis is as followed. First step, we made a matrix table as an input of technology input-output analysis. Input was defined by technology and output was defined by the product. Input technology was defined in a 3-digit code under National Science Technology Classification and output products were defined in a 5-digit under National Standard Industry Code. Second, the Spillover ratio among technologies were calculated and was used to make a picture of technology linkage. As a result of analysis, technology spillover of embedded S/W was the highest in IT convergence, mold product in ET convergence, and functional cosmetics development technology in BT convergence. In general, IT convergence had many element technologies with high technology spillover, and ET had a small number of element technologies with high technology spillover. Therefore, investment effect of element technology is expected to be large if investment on element technologies with high technology spillover is important for vitalizing convergence.

  • Purpose: In 2008, As the green growth policy was presented, Green Building is made any effort to propagation. In this paper, the respective technologies that are able to considerably reduce the energy demands for heating, cooling, hot-water, lighting and ventilation among the variety of technologies were selected. Method: Design factors such as (1) External insulation, (2) Triple glazing window, (3) LED lighting, (4) External venetian blind, (5) Geothermal and (6) Heat recovery ventilator were derived. In addition, energy saving effects in terms of energy demand, energy consumption and energy cost were investigated using EnergyPlus, building energy analysis tool. Result : The results were as follows. (1) It can be seen that high insulated triple glazing window, heat recovery ventilator and external insulation technology is excellent for energy demand. (2) Unlike energy demand, saving effect of energy consumption and energy cost was shown in order of Geothermal > Triple Window > Heat recovery Ventilation> Insulation> LED Lighting > EVB Blind.

  • Glazed curtain walls are façade systems frequently chosen in modern architecture for mid and high-rise buildings. From recent earthquakes surveys it is observed the large occurrence of non-structural components failure, such as storefronts and curtain walls, which causes sensitive economic losses and represents an hazard for occupants and pedestrians safety. In the present study, the behavior of curtain wall stick systems under seismic actions has been investigated through experimental in-plane racking tests conducted at the laboratory of the Construction Technologies Institute (ITC) of the Italian National Research Council (CNR) on two full-scale aluminium/glass curtain wall test units. A finite element model has been calibrated according to experimental results in order to simulate the behavior of such components under seismic excitation. The numerical model investigates the influence of the interaction between glass panels and aluminium frame, the gasket friction and the stiffness degradation of aluminium-to-glass connections due to the high deformation level on the curtain walls behavior. This study aims to give a practical support to researchers and/or professionals who intend to numerically predict the lateral behavior of similar façade systems, so as to avoid or reduce the need of performing expensive experimental tests.

  • For ultra-pure water, the removal of various impirities is required, and the requirement level is rising year by year. To cope with this problem, various removing technologies and system technologies have been developed and the introduction of new materials for the piping, etc. to form the system have been positively made. For the element technologies to be used for ultra-pure water production, their range will be expanded from the technological and economic viewpoints. Therefore, it is absolutely necessary to develop trace analysis evaluation technologies for ultra-pure water. Especially to raise the analytical level of heavy metals and organic substances is important. It is also important to establish individual analysis methods of organic substances. It is expected that the analytical methods will be established and new treating methods will be put to practical use in the near future.

  • This paper presents a method to improve vibration characteristics of servo track write (STW) fixture. STW fixtures supported by flexible mounts are subject to various vibration sources. Using Finite element analysis (FEA) vibration modes of the fixture are identified. The FEA results suggest certain vibration modes be reduced through design change of flexible mounts to improve vibration responses of the fixture. Based on layered flexible mounts theory a parametric study on shear and bending stiffness is performed to obtain a suitable flexible mount design leading to increased resistance to rocking motion. Experiments confirm improvement of vibration characteristics and drive performance through new mounts design.
