  • The purpose of this study is to use data from studies of headdresses which might be helpful for creating new fashion styles. Headdresses in 2010 S/S-2015 S/S Paris haute couture collections were analyzed in the following categories: years, season, brand, type, color, material, and image. The types of headdresses were categorized as hat, hood, decorative or complex types. The hat type was elegant with a modern style, and coexisted with an exaggerated avant garde style. The hood type wrapped around the head with many examples having a distinctive sculpture on top of the knot. The decorative type varied dramatically in form and materials. The complex type was a blend of all the other types with the designer's individuality being outstanding. The characteristics of headdresses were revealed first, as an enlargement of the materials category, second, as an expression of dramatic forms, and third, as complete coordination of the creative fashion image. The headdresses illustrate the designer's creativity in producing a variety of images. Henceforth they will be important as fashion items and independent designs in fashion styling.

A Study on the Characteristics of Marcel Breuer′s furniture designs (마르셀 브로이어의 가구디자인 특성에 관한 연구)

  • Marcel Breuer is considered one of the most important furniture designers of the 20th century. He studied at the Bauhaus in Weimar from 1920 to 1924 and in 1925 became master of the furniture studio at the Bauhaus in Dessau. Virtually from the outset, he was one of the most prolific and inventive designers at the bauhaus and fulfilled its claim to create designs for serial production. Gropius, the Bauhaus founder, had a profound influence on his furniture designs. In 1925, Breuer created the tubular-steel armchair, which revolutionized design and technique in the field, marking the advent of a new era. The furniture that was developed, by him and by others, from this design - technically cool, but light, elegant and clear - became the very symbol of modernism. Despite the success of his tubular-steel furniture, Breuer went on to explore the use of other new materials, such as aluminium and plywood. He made use of these new materials, which were associated with new technologies, to create new forms, as it were, some which proved to be foreunners of later developments in furniture design. Breuer had a profound influence on the evolution of modern design through his furniture designs, which received worldwide recognition and acclaim. His work unified functionality and beauty in a way that was to become a valid expression of its time and simultaneously far ahead of it.

American Students' Perception of Fashion Design that incorporates characteristics of Korean Traditional Dress (한복을 응용한 패션디자인에 대한 미국 대학생들의 이미지 지각 특성)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine American students' perceptions of contemporary fashion design that incorporates Korean traditional costume. The findings, which are based on a survey of American students' aesthetic response to the fashion designs, are as follows. First, the impressions of American students about the fashion designs were affected by two major factors, Tradition and Trend. The Tradition factor was related to the impressions traditional, formal, elegant, classic, romantic, gorgeous, and natural, but was correlated negatively to the impressions dynamic, modern, and casual. The Trend factor was related to the impressions chic, trendy, and clear but not dandy. Designs with elongated shape had a positive score for the Tradition factor and designs with curvy line had a positive score for the Trend factor. Second, American students gave visual priority to the aspects of shape such as garment type and silhouette when they evaluated the designs. Color was less important than the aspect of shape in their fashion image perception. Therefore, they categorized the designs by similarity of garment types, and then sub-categorized them by color. The meaning of Korean traditional motifs or details was not significant to American students. Third, American students showed the tendency that the more they evaluated the designs to be gorgeous or trendy, the more they liked the designs. Furthermore, they liked the designs which have a positive score for the Trend factor.

Color Image Analysis of Cosmetic Web-Site for Color Marketing

  • This study aims to derive the sensitive image analysing the color tones based on the web-sites of cosmetic brand and to know how the web-site color tones and the color tone image as visual factor for information transfer do influence the effective communication. 10 cosmetic brand web-sites are selected based on the pre survey, and the main page color tones of cosmetic brand web-site are analyzed by Color Catch and Munsell Conversion program, whereas the composition of color tones and color image such as the main trend colors, secondary colors, accent colors and etc are analyzed by a graphic professional program 'Adobe Photoshop'. 5 color tone groups are classified as Black&White, Green&White, Blue&White, Purple&White and Red&White according to the color distribution chart, and the emotional language is derived applying them to the pre research and IRI image scale. The color association is empirically analyzed by a survey method. The study results finally show Black&White is proper for expression of high quality and modern image, Green&White for pure and clean image, Blue&White for cool and transparent image, Purple&White for mysterious and elegant image respectively. This study results are necessary for plan of color delivering the strong transferring power of visual information the time when to make the effective web-sites, and it hopefully will be utilized as the basic data for the color marketing to actively express the brand identity and to satisfy the consumers' sensitivity.

  • The main consumers of wedding market are young people. They prefer differentiated and unique wedding and with the deregulation of using five-star hotels as wedding spaces in 1999, the wedding market has entered into an era of new competition. Under the background like above, this study tries to provide the basis for the effective and systematic interior coordination of wedding spaces. For this study, large banquet halls at 16 five-star hotels in Seoul were selected. Theoretical and field examinations, and interviews were conducted. The elements of wedding space include the architectural elements of floor, walls, and ceiling and lighting, color, fabric, table setting, and flower coordination. This study found that uniformity or repetition is used for the walls while modules are used for the ceiling. Unlike the past, LED is used for lighting to create diverse colors and the range of colors used has been broadened. In addition, fabric, table setting, and flowers are used actively to create overall atmosphere of the space. When these elements are aggregated and analyzed by hotel for interior design style, Hotels H and S have modern style, Hotels L and P have elegant style and Hotel IP have classical style.

A Comparative Study of Color Emotion and Preference of Koreans and Chinese for Two-Color Combination by Naturally Dyed Fabrics with Persimmon and Indigo (감과 쪽의 천연염색 배색직물의 색채감성과 색채선호도에 대한 한국인과 중국인의 비교 연구)

  • This study was performed to compare the color emotion and preference of Koreans and Chinese for a two-color combination by dyeing cotton fabric with persimmon and indigo and to establish prediction models of color preference. Nine specimens prepared by combining two different colored fabrics (persimmon and indigo) were evaluated for color emotion and preference by Korean and Chinese groups of female college students. Koreans described most specimens as natural and traditional, whereas the Chinese described them as more pleasant and elegant as well as warmer and lighter than Koreans did. The contrast tone was the most preferred combination by both groups, whereas it was perceived as more modern and less warm by Koreans. Relationships between physical color variables and color emotions were quantified; these relationships were applied to establish a prediction model of color preference with tone combination types for each group. These results could help in making the design of fashion textiles more preference- and emotion-oriented for Korean and Chinese consumers.

  • In recent years, K-beauty including Korean cosmetics and beauty care tips, is becoming popular in various Asian countries such as China and Vietnam along, with the popularity of the Korean wave. Color images are a highly effective tool in establishing image development strategies in the process of developing cosmetic brands. Surveys on the color images of K-beauty perceived by foreigners need to be preceded for the development of differentiated images and the establishment of management strategies regarding K-beauty. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to examine the color images perceived by Asian consumers about K-beauty, and come up with measures to facilitate K-beauty. To this end, this study selected the two countries, China and Vietnam that show high levels of acceptance of K-beauty, and compared the color images of K-beauty perceived by female consumers in these countries. Then, the study visually suggested these images with color palettes, and compared differences in the perception of color images according to demographic characteristics. Beijing and Shanghai showed similar degrees of perception in most color images of K-beauty whereas Hanoi showed a lower perception level. K-beauty color images were classified into 6 groups: feminine, natural, elegant, modern, sensual, active, and popular, which represent symbolic images of K-beauty.

  • In the past, what we call "fashion" was monopolized by only a small highly privileged group of individuals. To-day, we know that fashion field has become progressive democratization of taste not only in clothing, but in all expressions of contemporary living, from automobiles to refrigerators. So, we can find out how wonderful it is that our recent fashionable history was changed so fast. Whatever highly characteristic costume may be in the former, the way people dress was the reflection of their contemporary lives as well as their political status, economics, cultures, arts religions, so that a history of fashion is a history of life. Now, that categorical silhouettes make an exclusion across centuries of past history into the world of aesthetics, particularizes following ; symbolic voluminous toga of Roman authority, the religious but gorgeous Byzantine tunic, extravagant vertical bell-skirt of the Renaissance, the romantic Rococo style, the elegant crinoline and the bustle of the Cul de Paris of the nineteenth. It came true that women was intoxicated ostentations and elegances, since they had on ornamently costume which bear some relationship to the more formal Co-stesy, till the beginning of the twentieth. As Jonney Ironside said, "Nowadays, those exessive ornamentations and cumbersome design hardly belong to a civilization run by machines and in a hurry". These were once a sign of wealth and class ; at the beginning of the twentieth it was disappearing step by step. What is the reason\ulcorner At the end of the nineteenth, the emancipation of women, the movement of the Art Nouveau and the opening of the ready-made, have influenced on modern style, directly or indirectly.   • Social structure has diversified, and changed into the form of pluralism since entering the 21st century. Specially, entering in the 21st century modem fashion is expressed to the luxurious feminism which expresses sensual, strong, and decorative elegant based on the womanly beauty. The gorgeous image is a splendid and luxurious image. Also it is the fashion image which is expressed strongly by the decorative detail elements among the design components. Then, it appears often in modem fashion as the pursuit image of modem persons. Therefore, the purpose of this study was not only to analyze the meaning providence and the diagnostic elements about the gorgeous image that appears often in modem fashion, but also to help the various fashion image representations by arranging the presenting principle and the method of fashion image systematically setting in the trend toward modem fashion. The method of this study was a theoretical research of the literature materials concerned with fashion images by the clothes. Also, the questionnaires were completed by selected specialists as investigation subjects who were variously engaged in the fashion-related fields in order to research the gorgeous image. In the above results. the gorgeous image's diagnostic constituent was grasped laying stress on the characteristic of the clothes. Then, the whole concept named Luxury Imagination was chosen, and 4 suits of the gorgeous image were produced by these results In the diversified and personalized modem fashion with he above results the flowing of the gorgeous image is the part able to be expressed exactly in the view of the image pursued by the public.
