  • In 2001, Korea produced a total of 4.91 million metric tons of fly ash, approximately 63.3% of which was recycled. Almost all of the recycled fly ash are used in concrete mixtures and cement industry. Therefore, in order to develop a new usage to increase the utilization of the fly ash, conductive induction was used in this research rather than triboelectrostatic. By applying conductive induction, we could verify the possibility of obtaining high purity fly ash below 1%LOI and high carbon fly ash over 70%LOI from raw fly ash. In this test, the potential difference between the two electrodes was conducted by changing the range of 8 to 16 kV.

  • We present a self-consistent, 2-dimensional solution of the Poisson and Sch rodinger equation based on the finite difference method with a nonuniform mesh size for a AlGaAs/GaInAs/GaAs HEMT devide. During the interative self-consistent calculation, however, we calculate Schrodinger equation only a some region of device, not a fully region in order to save the moemory and the speed-up of computation, and then use the approximated data for the other region using by a interpolation method with a given values. Also we adopt the proper matrix transformation method that allows preservation of the symmetric, form of the discretized Schrodinger equation, even with the use of a nonumiform mesh size, therefor, can reduce the computation time. We calculate the wavefunction, eigenstates and the electron concentration uat channel layer nder the thermal equilibrium and the biased conditions, respectively. Also, these parameters are used to solve 2-dimensional tdistribution of potential in he entire region of device. It is proved that the method is very efficient in finding eigenstages extending over relatively large spatial area without loss of accuracy. So, it can be used rather easily in any sarbitrary modulation doped utucture.

  • Structure and dynamics of $Na^+$ ions are investigated by molecular dynamics simulations of rigid dehydrated zeolite-A at several temperatures using a simple Lennard-Jones potential plus Coulomb potential. A best-fitted set of electrostatic charges is chosen from the results of simulation at 298.15 K and Ewald summation technique is used for the long-ranged character of Coulomb interaction. The calculated x, y, and z coordinates of $Na^+$ ions are in good agreement with the positions determined by X-ray crystallography within statistical errors, their random movings in different types of closed cages are well described by time-correlation functions, and $Na_Ⅰ$ type ions are found to be less diffusive than $Na_Ⅱ$ and $Na_{III}$. At 600.0 K, the unstable $Na_{III}$ type ion pushes down one of nearest $Na_{I}$ ions into the $\beta-cage$ and sits on the stable site Ⅰ, and the captured ion in the $\beta-cage$ wanders over and attacks one of 8 $Na_{I}$ type ions.

  • Transient receptor potential canonical 4 (TRPC4) channel is a nonselective calcium-permeable cation channels. In intestinal smooth muscle cells, TRPC4 currents contribute more than 80% to muscarinic cationic current (mIcat). With its inward-rectifying current-voltage relationship and high calcium permeability, TRPC4 channels permit calcium influx once the channel is opened by muscarinic receptor stimulation. Polyamines are known to inhibit nonselective cation channels that mediate the generation of mIcat. Moreover, it is reported that TRPC4 channels are blocked by the intracellular spermine through electrostatic interaction with glutamate residues (E728, E729). Here, we investigated the correlation between the magnitude of channel inactivation by spermine and the magnitude of channel conductance. We also found additional spermine binding sites in TRPC4. We evaluated channel activity with electrophysiological recordings and revalidated structural significance based on Cryo-EM structure, which was resolved recently. We found that there is no correlation between magnitude of inhibitory action of spermine and magnitude of maximum current of the channel. In intracellular region, TRPC4 attracts spermine at channel periphery by reducing access resistance, and acidic residues contribute to blocking action of intracellular spermine; channel periphery, E649; cytosolic space, D629, D649, and E687.

  • It was possible to understand the adsorption characteristics of ions in aqueous environment based on the variations of PZC and IEP of particles when adsorption of ions on particle surface occurred. The specific adsorption of $Cu^{2+}$ ion upon chalcopyrite surface provoked a lowered PZC, which was considered to be due to increased adsorption of OH- ion via the electrostatic attraction between the two ions. On the contrary, IEP of chalcopyrite was observed to rise when Cu2+ was specifically adsorbed on its surface. The reason for this could be explained by the necessity of the increase of pH to offset the positively increased surface potential of chalcopyrite for the reestablishment of IEP. Neither PZC or IEP of chalcopyrite was observed to change when non-specific adsorption occurred since no change in the surface potential of chalcopyrite was invoked under this condition.

  • The hindered diffusion in confined spaces is an important phenomenon to understand in a micro-scale the filtration mechanism determined by the particle motion in membrane pores. Compared to the case of spherical colloids, both the theoretical investigations and the experiments on the hindered diffusion of polyelectrolytes is actually more difficult, due to lots of relevant parameters resulting from the complicated conformational properties of the polyelectrolyte chain. We have successfully performed the Brownian dynamics simulations upon a single polyeiectrolyte confined in a slit-like pore, where a coarse-grained bead-spring model incorporated with Debye-Huckel interaction is properly adopted. For the given sizes of both the polyelectrolyte and the pore width, the hindered diffusion coefficient decreases as the solution ionic concentration decreases. It is evident that a charge effect of the pore wall enhances the hindered diffusion of polyelectrolyte. Simulation results allow us to make sense of the diffusive transport through the micro-pore, which is restricted by the influences of the steric hindrance of polyelectrolytes as well as the electrostatic repulsion between the polyelectrolytes and pore wall.

  • We have proposed a new configuration on the cathode structure to improve a neutron yield without the application of external ion sources in an inertial electrostatic confinement (IEC) device. A neutron yield in the IEC device is closely related to the potential well structure generated inside the cathode and is proportional to the ion current. Therefore, the application of a double grid cathode structure to the IEC device is expected to produce a higher ion current and neutron yield than at a single grid cathode due to a high electric field strength generated around the cathode. These possibilities were verified as compared with the ion current calculated from both shape of the single and double grid cathode. Additionally from the results of ion's lives and trajectories examined at various outer cathode voltages and grid cathode configurations by using particle simulations, the validity of the double grid cathode was confirmed.

  • PEMS (printed electro-mechanical system) is fabricated by means of various printing technologies. Passive and active compo-nents in 2D or 3D such as conducting lines, resistors, capacitors, inductors and TFT(Thin Film Transistor), which are printed withfunctional materials, can be classified in this category. And the issue of PEMS is applied to a R2R process in the manu-facturing process. In many electro-devices, the vacuum process is used as the manufacturing process. However, the vacuum process has a problem, it is difficult to apply to a continuous process such as a R2R(roll to roll) printing process. In this paper, we propose an ESD (electro static deposition) printing process has been used to apply an organic solar cell of thin film forming. ESD is a method of liquid atomization by electrical forces, an electrostatic atomizer sprays micro-drops from the solution injected into the capillary with electrostatic force generated by electric potential of about several tens kV. ESD method is usable in the thin film coating process of organic materials and continuous process as a R2R manufacturing process. Therefore, we experiment the thin films forming of PEDOT:PSS layer and active layer which consist of the P3HT:PCBM. The organic solar cell based on a P3HT/PCBM active layer and a PEDOT:PSS electron blocking layer prepared from ESD method shows solar-to-electrical conversion efficiency of 1.42% at AM 1.5G 1sun light illumination, while 1.86% efficiency is observed when the ESD deposition of P3HT/PCBM is performed on a spin-coated PEDOT:PSS layer.

  • Carbon nanotubes (CNT) emitter has widely become an attractive mechanism that draws growing interests for cold cathode field emission.$^{1,2}$ CNT yarns have demonstrated its potential as excellent field emitters.$^3$ Extensive simulations were carried out in designing a CNT yarn-based cathode assembly. The focal spot size dependence on the anode surface of the geometric parameters such as axial distance of the electrostatic focus lens from the cathode and the applied bias voltages at the cathode, grid mesh and electrostatic focus lens were studied. The detailed computer simulations using Opera 3D electromagnetic software$^4$ had revealed that a remarkable size of focal spot under a focusing lens triode type set-up design was achieved. The result of this optimization simulation would then be applied for the construction of the CNT yarn based micro-focus x-ray tube with its field emission characteristics evaluated.
