Testis-specific protein (TSPY) is a Y-specific gene, with up to 200 copy numbers in bulls. In order to make bovine embryo sexing under farm condition more feasible, the possibility of using a non-electrophoretic method to detect the TSPY gene for sexing bovine early embryos was examined. Primers were designed to amplify a portion of the TSPY gene and a common gene as an internal control primer. PCR optimization was carried out using a DNA template from bovine whole blood. Furthermore, embryo samples were diagnosed by this method and the sexing results were contrasted with those of the Loop-Mediated Isothermal Amplification (LAMP) method. The results showed that TSPY was as reliable a sexing method as LAMP. Forty-three morula and blastocyst embryos collected from superovulated donor dairy cattle were sexed by this method, and twenty-one embryos judged to be female embryos were transferred non-surgically to recipients 6 to 8 days after natural estrus. Out of 21 recipients, 9 were pregnant (42.86%) and all delivered female calves. The results showed that the sex predicted by this protocol was 100% accurate. In conclusion, the TSPY gene was a good male specific marker and indicated that a non-electrophoretic method was feasible and accurate to detect the TSPY gene for sexing preimplantation bovine embryos.
Rice proteins were extracted from brown and milled rice of five varieties: Kwanganbyeo, Daeanbyeo, Daejinbyeo, Surabyeo, Hwaseongbyeo; and their electrophoretic patterns were analyzed by SDS-PAGE. Albumin was extracted with water, globulin with 5% NaCl, prolamin with 70% ethanol, and glutelin with 0.2 M sodium borate buffer (pH 10.0) containing 0.5% SDS, 0.6% $\beta$-mercaptoethanol. The ratios of albumin : globulin : prolamin : glutelin in the brown rice were 10.8~14.1 : 12.4~16.4 : 3.6~5.3 : 68.6~72.8, and in milled rice were 4.4~5.6 : 10.6~12.0 : 3.9~5.4 : 75.7~79.8. In albumin seven major bands were observed with molecular weights ranging from 14.g~96.8 kDa, in globulin four bands with molecular weights in the range of 14.4~56.9 kDa, prolamin had only one band with a molecular weight of 14.4 kDa, and glutelin had four bands with molecular weights of 14.4 ~ 57.4 kDa. There were no differences in electrophoretic patterns between rice varieties or between brown and milled rice.
Thick inorganic-organic hybrid films were prepared on ITO-coated glass substrates by the electrophoretic sol-gel deposition of polyphenylsilsesquioxane particles. The morphology of the deposited films changed from the aggregate of the spherical particles to monolith by heat treatment at temperatures higher than $200^{\circ}C$. Transparency of the films was significantly improved accompanied by the morphological change of the particles. The degree of the morphological change was governed by two factors; maximum heat treatment temperature and heating rate. Transparent thick films of ca. 3$\mu\textrm{m}$ in thickness were obtained only by heat treatment at $400^{\circ}C$ for 2h with rapid heating from room temperature to $400^{\circ}C$. These films obtained were strongly adhered to the ITO-coated glass substrates and has a very smooth surface.
Restenosis after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) continues to be a serious problem in clinical cardiology. To solve this problem, drug eluting stents (DES) with antiproliferative agents have been developed. Variable local drug delivery systems in the context of stenting require the development of stent manufacture, drug pharmacology and coating technology. We have worked on a system that integrates electrophoretic deposition (EPD) technology with the polymeric nanoparticles in DES for local drug delivery and a controlled release system. The surface morphology and drug loading amount of DES by EPD have been investigated under different operational conditions, such as operation time, voltage and the composition of media. We prepared poly-D,L-lactide-co-glycolic acid (PLGA) nanoparticles embedded with curcumin, which was done by a modified spontaneous emulsification method and used polyacrylic acid (PAA) as a surfactant because its carboxylic group contribute negative charge to the surface of CPNPs (?53.5 ± 5.8 mV). In the process of ‘trial and error' endeavors, we found that it is easy to control the drug loading amount deposited onto the stent while keeping uniform surface morphology. Accordingly, stent coating by EPD has a wide application to the modification of DES using various kinds of nanoparticles and drugs.

This paper suggests an automatic electrophoretic deposition (EPD) robot system using a color mono camera. The EPD robot system consists of a 2 DOF rectangular robot to practically carry out EPD tasks, and a color mono camera to automatically control the robot. The screws are used to actuate the robot with low speed of 10mm/s for EPD tasks. The color mono camera detects the color marks attached to the robot and beakers, and obtains their positions. The obtained positions are used for automatic robot control. Also, the camera recognizes the combinations of the markers attached to the beakers, and determines the selected EPD task among various predetermined EPD tasks with different working parameters. Finally, experimental results are shown for verifying the effectiveness of the suggested EPD robot system.

In order to improve the surface uniformity and the conduction properties of the fabricated YBCO thick films, a system that applies alternating field vertically to the EPD field has been developed for the first time and applied to the electrophoretic deposition process. The applied alternating electric field caused a force to be exerted on each YBCO particle and resulted in a shaking of the particle in the direction of applied electric field, accomplishing a uniform particle orientation. The usual commercial electrical power was used for the vertically applied alternating voltage and the induced electric field was 25-120 V/cm at 60Hz. The thick film fabricated by the method developed in this paper showed better surface uniformity without crack and porosity and improved film characteristics such as critical temperature ($T_{c,zero}$ : 90 K) and critical current density ($2354\;A/cm^2$). Therefore, it is expected that the shaky-aligned electrophoretic deposition method can be used to fabricate superconductor films through a simpler process and at less expense.

A beautiful, flexible active-matrix electrophoretic display (AM-EPD) device is reported. The flexible AM-EPD device has a $40.0{\times}30.0\;mm^2$ display area, measures about 0.27 mm in thickness, weighs about 0.45 g and possesses only 20 external connections. The flexible AM-EPD device displays clear black-and-white images with 5 gray-scales on $160{\times}120$ pixels. The display is free from residual image problems, because we use an area-gray-scale method on $320{\times}240$ EPD elements, each of which is driven with binary signals. Each pixel consists of 4 EPD elements. In addition, since the response time of the electrophoretic material is as long as approximately 400 ms and since the display possesses a large number of EPD elements, we have developed a special driving method suitable for changing EPD images comfortably. A complete image is formed on the AM-EPD device, consisting of a reset frame and several, typically 6, image frames.

In order to improve the surface uniformity and the conduction properties of the fabricated YBCO thick films, a system that applies alternating field vertically to the EPD field has been developed for the first time and applied to the electrophoretic deposition process. The applied alternating electric field, so called Shaky Alternating Assisted Field, caused a force to be exerted on each YBCO particle and resulted in a shaking of the particle in the direction of applied electric field, accomplishing a uniform particle orientation. The usual commercial electrical power was used for the vertically applied alternating voltage and the induced electric field was 25-120 V/cm at 60Hz. The thick film fabricated by the method developed in this paper showed better surface uniformity without crack and porosity and improved film characteristics such as critical temperature (Tc,zero = 90 K) and critical current density (2354 A/$\textrm{cm}^2$), Therefore, it is expected that the shaky-aligned electrophoretic deposition method can be used to fabricate superconductor films through a simpler process and at less expense.
The electrophoretic and innunological cnalyses of organic matrices in the shells of freshwater bivalves were made in order to dlucidate the biochemical characteristics and species-specific differinces of the applied shells, The water-soluble and insoluble matrices of four species of freshwater bivalves, Andodonta fukudai, Unio douglasiae, Lanceolaria and Chrbicula fluminea, were used as analytical materials, There was non-identity in immuno affinity between anti soluble matrix(anti-Sm) and anti insoluble matrix(anti-ISM)sera against the organic matrix of Andodnta fukudai. The SMs of four species (S. fukudai, U.douglasiae, L. acrorhyncha, and C. fluminea) showed the differences in the precipitate arcs at the level of family, though ISMs did mot show differences. In the electrophoretic analysis, all foru species had two SDS-electrophoretic bands of SM, of which molecular wights appeared to be lower than 55,000, shereas the native organic matrices of foru speceis had higher molecular weighrs than those from SDS-dldctrophoresis. Only calcium ion among many ions in extrapallial fluid(EPF) caused SM to change into insoluble molecules, thus the EPF pretreated with Ca++did not form the precipitate arc when did the immuno diffusion whth anti SM serum. ISM precursor may be polymerized into macromolecules like periostracin, a precusor of periostracum, judging from the similat polymerization patterns in 0.1M Tris formate buffer(pH 3); they may be made insoluble macromolecules due to their strong natrue of hydrophobicity.
Nanocomposites consisting of Sn nanoparticles and graphene oxide (GO) were electrophoretically deposited onto Cu current collectors that was used for anodes in Li ion batteries (LIBs). In order to optimize the electrochemical performance of nanocomposites as an anode material by controlling the oxygen functionality, the GO was subjected to $O_3$ treatment prior to electrophoretic deposition (EPD). During thermal reduction of the GO in the nanocomposites, the Sn nanoparticles were reduced in size, along with the formation of SnO and/or $SnO_2$ at a small fraction, relying on the oxygen functionalities of the GO. The variation in the duration of time for the $O_3$ irradiation resulted in a small change in total oxygen content, but in a significantly different fraction of each functional group in the GO, which influenced the Sn nanoparticle size and the amount of SnO (and/or $SnO_2$). As a result, the EPD films prepared with the GO that possessed the least amount of carboxylic groups (made by treating GO in an $O_3$ environment for 3 h) showed the best performance, when compared with the nanocomposites composed of untreated GO or GO that was $O_3$-treated for a duration of less than 3 h.
